24oct2010 i got Astro Byond normail wow Decorder smailer then my old decorder big
my astro byond normail
how to check setelite signal how many %
like my old decorder we can check setelite signal 65% like that
*
on your byond remote control, press "home", then select "settings", "installation settings", enter password "0000", then select "satellite settings", on LNB type: universal, press "OK", select any entry point from 1 to 18, you will get your satellite signal strength and signal quality, some entry point will not show any signal, this is normal
after viewing your satellite signal, press "back" button a few time to go back to your channel viewing

need to go through many step just to check on satellite signal, not very user friendly at all, they should provide single button press to show satellite signal on the remote

by the way some browser has built-in spell checker, just use it brows.gif

I would like to ask?

Recently my friend subscribe astro and they got beyond decoder eventhogh they only subscribe for family package only (RM37.9+ only permonth).
How could that be?...and they only watching using CRT TV only.
Is it they received HD broadcast ? Since they connect using RCA plug only not HDMI.

And another thing is the sound output...I saw the decoder can select whether stereo or dolby digital.
This mean they can connect the sound output to AVR and received Dolby Digital sound.

Anyone knows? Pls reply

some lucky new subscribers got their HDMI accidentally turn on by astro brows.gif

hi guys.. something weird just happen... left my decoder on standby since 10 am.. just arrived at home and the bloody thing can't be switch on... and its hot like hell.. does this mean that it is overheating during standby?
*
try power cycle your byond, ie. switch off main power, then on again

byond tend to get hot even in standby mode, simply bad design, suggest adding usb powered laptop fan underneath byond

capacity limited? measat 3A still have 6 extra ku transponders sitting pretty ready for astro to hire

each transponder is capable of transmitting 13 astro quality SD channel using DVB-S

it is not transponder capacity problem, but more on the fact that there is no return on investment to astro by transmitting religious channels

each transponder onboard measat 3A will cost astro RM7m/year

for sure it will be benefited to astro if all SD channels are using DVB-S2 + Mpeg4 for transmision, saving 30% on overall capacity

but astro must hurry up and change all old DVB-S decoder to byond box

BTW, should B.yond receive these channel in MPEG4 already? icon_idea.gif
*
no can do!

byond boxes are purposely crippled to only receive measat3/3A ku band signal, unless you hack your byond box

ask around college students from china, they got a complete list of satellite equipments brought over from their home town, for example FTA dvb-s decoder less than RM100, c-band LNB RM50

check out this list of satellites in asia, if their footprint covered malaysia, then we can receive the TV transmission from them, for example asiasat 3s at 105.5°E

Is it possible to put KU-band LNB + C-band LNB into B.yond dish? hmm.gif
*
C-band really need a bigger at least 1.5m dish, 60cm dish is too small for c-band reception

see example from china, this one is all ku band on single dish

from gemany, 14 ku-band lnb on single dish drool.gif

Whole apartment could share. When got rainfade, sure everyone will "no service available"... laugh.gif
*
that particular wiring is for single decoder usage only

for multiple decoders sharing multiple LNB, wiring need to be altered completely

I wonder how bigger this decoder because can support 13 SAT-IN port.  hmm.gif

there is no 13 input for the decoder, but only 2 lnb input just like the astro byond pvr, switches were used to select any one of many lnbs

So far that's the only 2 FTA HD channel that I managed to scan and lock the signal.

picture please brows.gif

I have seen other people's screen capture from thai HD, although in wide-screen but picture quality is very blur not as good as astro byond

in-line rf amplifier is quite useful when there is a very-very long cable run, but make sure it is rated at 2GHz for satellite TV use
