AA online booking is full of traps. I can safely say that a lot of people got tricked by the confusing "OK" and " Cancel" button. The traps are at select seat, insurance, and convenient fee. These traps are not easily removed for first timer.

Under one booking of 3 passengers (family members). Air Asia auto seat allocation intentionally separate one of us at row 26 and the remaining two at row 12.

It's not intentional la. Lol. It's common.

Just pay extra to buy your seats.

Added on June 20, 2011, 8:59 pmAnd do the web check in earlier next time. smile.gif

AA sure like you alot because you are such a good consumer. Don't mind being squeezed by AA and pay for someting your are supposely entitled foc.
Anyway, I didn't pay extra for it. The baggage drop counter staff, upgraded our 3 seats to priority red seats A,B and C after I brought up the problem to him.

You have to remember that AA is a low cost airline, of course all the freebies that you get from a full commercial airline have to pay.

BTW, scared to sit on your own is it?
*
Oh...you like to sit quietly beside a stranger far away from your hubby/bf or your loved one is it ? sweat.gif my bad, I didn't know your preference and that's bad for AA doh.gif

Perhaps you didn't read my post properly.
This is about ethical business practice. When you book 3 seats under ONE (1) booking, Ethically, AA should allocate the seats closest possible. But AA's automatic seat allocation system intentionally or unintentionally break up the seats several rows away to force passenger to pay for togetherness. ( It is still ok if it is just 1 row behind)

As for the AA is a low cost airline....not totally true. For example all in return airfare to London in mid November is more expensive than MAS as at today booking. sweat.gif
Services like extra luggage weight, priority red seats ets ets ..need to pay no doubt about it. But getting paid unethically by breaking out the seats under one booking is not right.

I highlighted the issue here so that more passengers will voice out their complains to the ground staff and subsequently AA can take corrective measures to improve and to be a better passenger friendly airline.

So... I guess you also have no issue with the impending July price hike by Astro huh ? whistling.gif

Well like monkeyflo has explained, it is not intentionally.

You have to understand that you are not the only booking 3 seats under 1 booking. There are many twin and triple seats under 1 booking hence you MIGHT be separated when you check in. Plus most probably alot of those twin and triple seats under 1 booking - they paid for their seats already.

*
I can't agree with your logic above. Upon my request to change the seats at the AA counter ground staff, their apologized for the error and gave me the the same row A,B and C. They have ample seats and the flight was not full.
Maybe you are a rich girl and don't mind paying for whatever is right or wrong. Average people fighting for their rights to save money are regarded as calculative and nuisance.

No I am not rich. I just am very good with financial planning & execution only.

Well I am glad you get your row of seats & the staff apologize for their error.

Thank you.

I hope you don't simply plugged a logic out of your own imagination to defend AA like a fan-girl. I'm not saying AA is bad is total. Just point out one or two flaws in their system. AA needs critics to improve and to be more passengers friendly.

No, I'm not being an AA fan but I didn't know that when you went to check in, you found out the flight was not full.

If it was full, what I have explained (not sure if you fully understand it or not), it is logical. Because many ppl booked and many ppl pick seats and maybe others check in earlier than you get the 'sit together seats. Hence the ones that check in last will be separated.

Because, I've experience before for Full Commercial flights and Low Cost flights, those who check in the latest keep complaining to the check in staff why cannot sit together when they are the ones that are the last few groups in line. That one I totally can't tolerate, coz come late some more want to request for many things.
*
The fact is, I web-checkin 2 days before the flight and in the printed boarding pass, one of our seats got separated at few rows apart by the system. I re-look at the seat selection page and it was still 95% unbooked. By the way, the flight was not a hot sector, it was Phnom Penh.

The message that I want to bring across in this forum is....if one is in the same situation as mine, request the ground staff to correct it without charging. If one wish to pay for the trick played by AA, then good for AA lor.

Seriously dudes, I'm really pissed with AirAsia. How many services do they wanna charge me for la? Wanna check-in, gotta pay. Wanna book online, gotta pay. Wanna call customer service, gotta pay. Wanna this, gotta pay, wanna that, gotta pay. What else? Next time they better start charging if I wanna use the toilet or use the foldable table la! =_____=

Well said. If more and more consumers posting complaints and critics in the internet, it will definitely put AA in check and this is healthy to the industry. Sooner or later maybe MAS and Fireflyz will be adopting the same AA tricks to squeeze every RM out of passengers as the 3 major airlines will be managed by AA's management soon.

Just learned something new. Buying last minute ticket or tomorrow's ticket must use credit card and pay RM8 convenient fee. There will be no free internet banking option for buying ticket less than 2 days.

oooo...every cents count. poor ppl like me always look for cheap airfare of course and zero fare.Trying to save anywhere I could. .RM10 can be my 2 meal (or 10 roti canai ).... And also to make my parents happy since they are old n no longer earn living . N they leave up north n m here.So I always make the booking n I just tell them bring yr passport to check in the nice lady at the counter will help you. So now, they have to fly to KL that cost them RM20 (2 person)n from KL out to international route another RM20. So is RM40. And when they return again another RM40 . So altogether is RM80....phew! .....So now I have to earn hard to buy them a cheap cheap pc n a printer. TEach them or send them for computer lesson for long term saving.
*
Wow, RM80 can buy me almost full tank petrol already.
AA is being very unreasonable to charge counter check in at RM10. As you said, this is not selection of seat we want (in the plane).....not additional luggage weight allowance we need (in the plane).......not the food we want to eat (in the plane)........... check in is compulsory (at the airport) !!! The counter check in service should be included in the airport tax which we have already paid because the check in counter, the weighing machine, the boarding system etc etc all belongs to MAHB.
Again, not every one have internet access, have printer, have smart phone, have mobile data plan, have friends or family to help, know how to self check in at the kiosk,

Guys, what the hell is aviation levy, Passenger security fee and passenger service fee for Singapore tickets? Even though it's zero fare, ends up coming up to RM240 for two. Same price that can be bought even without this sale. Just curious coz I dont see this for other flights.

Wow, AA came out with so many funny funny jargon to squeeze every $$ out of the customers. I didn't see these in Vietname sector.

Oops ! wait a minute ! I think is a breakdown of Singapore airport tax. Because only return flight Sin-KUL kena. Maybe you can check FFlyz site S'pore sector to confirm.

For domestic without baggage, AA don't verify (red stamped) web and mobile check in anymore, just proceed to the departure gate but they will check your IC against boarding pass twice before boarding. But this new simplify system has a little drawback to the old folks that is they have to find out their departure gate number from the information display.

For international flight, I usually have check in baggage and the boarding pass can be verified at the baggage drop counter.

So I just need to go to the document verification counter with my boarding pass rite? So 1 hour before flight is good enough?

Thanks

For International flight, don't risk yourself missing flight playing with the "ngam ngam timing". Arrive airport minimum 2 hours before departure time is recommended even though you already web check in.

Contingencies such as below can happen to you.
1) What if You or your traveling companion exceeds the 7KG hand carry rules and you have to throw away the excess stuff because the baggage drop for your flight already closed 45min before departure time ?
2) What if you or your traveling companion got stuck for 15min at the passport control due to minor technical problem with the passports and the boarding gate already closed 20 min before departure time ?
3) Also consider there are 3 x queues you have to go thru before entering the departure hall. At the baggage drop counter, security check at the departure hall entrance. passport control.
