Why is everyone blaming p2p users? I've said it once and I'll say it again, DDL and streaming use more bandwidth than P2P technology. Your router slowing down isn't the effect of 'p2p sucking all your bandwidth' but due to the amount of connections that P2P software make. Not to mention the saturation of your uplink (which you would not use fully otherwise) for network efficiency. You don't see TM capping upload speed do you? :/

But we have routers that are fast enough to keep up with the p2p protocols nowadays and many of them have switched to UDP. ISP routers are leagues ahead in terms of load handling when compared to your home routers. Why do you think TM caps Youtube? TM releases one press release simply stating that P2P uses all the bandwidth and you guys suck it as though they're telling the truth without doing any research. Next they'll say accessing non-TM webmail accounts slows down their entire network and you people will just believe them and start bashing gmail/hotmail users.

I remember reading in the newspapers that 'Youtube is slow because the servers are far away'. Nearly choked on my drink when I read that.

Bloody ridiculous >_>
*
Muahahaha, TM still thinks 70% of their users are morons but I think if everyone here believes what TM is saying, then it could be higher. The big guys are using CDN nowadays. Try pinging youtube and i'm sure its 80ms or so. 80ms can be local or in neighboring countries and except for certain controlled contents, it will only allow access from certain countries.

They started this situation by making 2mbps and 4mbps streamyx cheap and also unifi with no bandwidth cap. After that, they notice opps not enough bandwidth so now they have to throttle to make up for the bandwidth sucked by the 2mbps, 4mbps and unifi users.

TM is a fail company. They have no bandwidth yet want to roll out 4mbps and unifi.
*
From what I know, half of the middle management don;t want to roll out HSBB. They prefer to pump all the money to get more bandwidth and get more for the 4mbit. However the proposal got shot down by the top management.

Pump all money and get 200Gbit and let everyone download all they want.

Now, sini tak jadi, sana pun tak jadi.

What are you guys doing comparing different countries pricing? You think SG is good and cheap? SG also shaped p2p.
A Ferrari 458 costs about 170K british pound and that would be RM850K BUT in MY, it will be RM2.5mil and yet still people buy.

How much does a house cost in SG? Cheaper than KL? Same goes to HK. Why do you think millions of SG visited MY? Look at overall cost of living in SG and MY? You seen Singaporeans screaming at their government because the petrol is high? I dont think SG in a great example at all. I would rather pay high internet than pay for high petrol any time. Have you guys ever lived in JAPAN? Tokyo voted as most expensive city and did you ever wonder why japanese and korean flew all the to MY to play golf?

Dont talk prices la, talk about services and then screw them up for that. Get all the facts before telling others how cheap is other countries.

hahaha, 100 pages and still talking how sucky is TM and bring in govt la and this country cheaper and that country cheaper. Got solutions?
Anyone want to get a sign petitions and see how many sign-up and tell Rais Yatim what to do with his internet service providers policies?
Do an online petition and see how many sign-up. Send that to TM, Rais and PM. If you can get say 50,000 users, then you can demand, some more with GE coming up, you can probably get them to give you free internet as long you use below 5GB a month (lol, remind me PR water gifts to Selangor people) else, this thread will still be here for the next one year and still nothing done.

Anyone game for online petition?

hehe... complaining here is an outlet for most folks I guess..

If really wanna do something impactful... everyone commit to do something together... not petition but something drastic like...

Unsubscribing to Streamyx.

Imagine if you can rally 100,000 people to stop subscribing to streamyx. That would really hurt their business. That's if you can even get 100,000 people...
*
Then imagine how many is willing to terminate without paying penalty for the lapse in contract.

Bittorrent is definitely throttled for long time ago but only in certain areas. Probably areas where they have very high users concentration. Only way to bypass throttled p2p is by using vpn.

Consider using VPN for bypassing certain restrictions by ISP or your office network. Besides removing the restriction, you can also stream live shows directly from US, Canada and UK televisions or video on demands from these countries. I know that majority of users here talk about pps which are mostly serving chinese series but if you're looking for english streaming, then give our service a try. You might get more than what you want.

They playing with the settings. Some areas are still capped and some will be capped. In Hartamas, the 4mbit lines are capped at 100Kb without VPN and full speed 450Kb with VPN. So yes, its still there but a higher capped than the normal 10Kb.

If all VPNs you subscribing does not increase your speed then something is wrong with your setup. Maybe PM me your ID and see if we can zoom down on the fault.

A technician just called me up and discussed a few things with me.He told me that infact torrenting is really being throttled by TM.

He did advise me to subscribe to VPN services or download files from Rapid (own VPN) if i want to have a full download speed and bypass TM's throttle/blockage.

I found something new. If you upload on bittorrent, your download speed on http is halved. doh.gif
*
Limit your upload to 60%-70% of your total upload speed to get best speed for p2p but if your p2p download wallop all the bandwidth, then your http will lose up in who gets the best bandwidth.

hey guys, wat do u all think bout u mobile 3.6mbps rm68 package ?  it state 3.6mbps, do i even get 1.8mbps ?

All 3G services depends very much on the signal. Good signal (at least 3-5 bars), then you can get max speed.

QUOTE(solarmystic @ Aug 18 2010, 02:37 AM)
@Motorbaby

Wireless sucks fat hairy you-know-what... Don't do it.... No matter the temptation.. Speeds always start nice, and then they always go down as the ISP fails to provision more bandwidth to cater for the avalanche of users who potong for the next best thing...

As a result.. ppl complain slow and they all jump back to Stimyx... which makes them cackle with glee and happiness... Until and unless they can provision their own backbones.. all ISPs are beholden to TM Wholesale for their pipes... just like in Aussie where Telstra Wholesale hold's every other ISP by the balls...

For all the flak TM gets, they are the best of the worst of the ISPs in this country...

What we need is a high speed fibre implementation to the home that is not monopolised by one company and is government funded (just like the NBN in Australia) and later on bid by open tender to all the interested ISPs in this country.. so that Jaring and Maxis can join in the land grab..

Then, we'll see prices drop and services improve as each ISP competes for subscribers....
*
I being using 3G for the last 2 years at home and so far it has served me well, speed is between 60KB/s (peak hours) and 380KB/s (off peak) but for heavy dl, i use my office wired 4mbit to get files. Probably get about 1GB every 30 minutes and mostly run dl about 6 hours a day. The speed is with VPN. Without VPN its 10KB/s.

There's 1mil users. TM just do carpet bombing style. Throttle using whatever the layer 7 supplier give them and throttle us.

IMPOSSIBLE TM BLOCK FACEBOOK UNLESS TM IS TAKEN OVER BY THE OPPOSITION.
Directive from PM office is to unblock all access to facebook cause all ministers has one.

Hey a quick question. If I sign up for a paid VPN service, will I incur a high latency in my online games while connected to the VPN server? Also, do the VPN service provide fast youtube streaming?
*
If you are connected to non-routed VPN, then there is no issue of latency since you can customise which service can use VPN and which are not.
But then again, if you p2p full speed, then you will get latency issue when gaming.

Woa, scam? Who's scamming? I wonder 1200 users with us can't be scamming. I'm sure a few uses ours here and its definitely not scammed after being here the last 3 years. Other vpn providers come and go but bolehvpn is here to stay.

The most major difference between us and the rest is that we are very dedicated in solving and providing the solution for our users. We have both UDP and TCP servers which should take care of bypassing some of the toughest firewalls ruling.

Streamyx is having some issues that will drop your connection to 0 unless you reconnect it again. As for throttling or massive slow down, you only option at the moment is to subscribe to VPN services or using seedbox services. Visit our homepage for details.
