how was the speed before you put that walls?

what is that walls made of? i would use a little help here smile.gif
*
well, before i attach the "wall", i close my door, i only get rssi around 65 to 66, aftr i put the "wall", the rssi up to 70, if i open my room door, i can get 73.

so far i didnt see any speed increment, because i had test many method to see rssi will affect the speed.

i had try put the yes modem under my bed, even thought the rssi really decrease to 50++, but i saw another increase in transmit power, almost 200++, so i guess, when rssi signal low, the modem will boast the transmit power to get more signal and speed.

so i think this is the different between 3g & 4g modem? this modem will auto increase or decrease the transmit power, when your rssi signal high enough, you will see the transmit power around 138(rssi 70).

even i hide my modem in tin or under my bed, i do speed test, i also get almost same speed. but i think more high signal can get more stable line? is it?

great setup bro.. can we hook up external high gains antenna for the GO? or change to other USB device?
*
i think this might possible, but this modem is quite new, i not really dare to force open it, hehe... just scraed will spoiled the warranty...

at my house i can get full bar, 5 bar, so i think no need to add extra high gains antenna, for other can get full bar, might need try this method?

Just google wifi antenna.
Since Wimax and Wifi works on the same frequency range, all techniques will work.

ya, i also find this idea from google, that wall is made by aluminum foil, use for bbq that type.

lower rssi = better.
how much you guys/gals paid for upfront?

One Lowyat shop selling it at RM30 + RM99 (USB Modem) , no activation fee?. Lot 10 need to pay RM50 activation fee?
*
yes, more low rssi is better, but that inditaion only work if the number is negative value like -77, -66 is more better than -77. but th eyes modem number is not negative, is positive value 70, not -70.

if you said low is good, how you explain this?

i put the modem under the my bed, the rssi drop to 50++, when i take backm put on my table, up back to 60++, did you means under bed is better than on my table?haha...

Did you for some reason 'photoshop' this photo? The CINR part... the number 45 has some purple fringing at the top of number 5. Also the alignment and spacing is out compared to the other figures there. Most importantly... by RF standards today (at least WiMAX)... CINR 45? Not at RSSI = -70. You better be kidding hehehehe tongue.gif

Moral of the story... well... you would figure it out by now.
*
haha, brother, your have good imagination, the photo is take by my handphone, only 2mp. It look a little blur, not i didn't "photoshop" it.

i wonder why RSSI & CINR is positive value? maybe the figure is display error? i dunno, but it indicate positive value, i just show you what i saw...hehe

compare an apple with orange? better compare to our neighbour singapore, people now using 100mbps, even their bb is far late develop than malaysia, malaysia boleh?

Wait at least next 6 months? later unifi user increase, i am sure they will cap you!! it will fall back to streamxy speed, no matter how many bandwidth you have, if every1 going bt, sure die...

QUOTE(Forum-Modding Newb @ Dec 5 2010, 09:34 PM)
Well, after some hesitancy, I decided to sign up for Yes. A few things I've realised:

Yes plan is something really different.
After talking to their sales staff, and watching their new videos on Youtube, it really is different from other telco plans. I've had years paying for Streamyx, mobile data, and voice for my phone. What I didn't realise is if I didn't use up to the maximum, I burn a lot of money. Paying RM66+68+50-70 bucks for Streamyx + Digi Discovery + phone calls per month, when I obviously don't use GBs of data....  and I can't transfer money from 1 plan to another (if I don't use Digi Discovery 3GB, I can't use that money for voice/streamyx right?).

The RM30 min usage (not min top-up like some mistaken people are saying) kinds sucks if I go overseas for a week or two (for my work), but I think once I get a Yes phone my total bill per month will go down by a lot. I'll see when the HTC phone comes out and I shift to Yes, if that's true or not, but calculation now is I'll save.

The network is really fast.
YTL really started my interest in mobile wireless, I read up a lot. Like people say LTE in Sweden is 59.1Mbps fast (link here), but I realised they have 40Mhz of spectrum so obviously they can go fast (in Malaysia only 20Mhz is allocated). Wireless speed depends on how much air your company owns to transmit signals, so my initial experience of 5-10Mbps (based on location) is pretty much as close to the best it can be, which is impressive.

At first I followed the other people and thought "ok, lets wait for 6 months then we'll see". But then I read all the technical stuff (like this here) and realised that we've been served with bad 3G and Streamyx for too long that we don't know what's good anymore. P1 has officially said that their average usage is 10GB/month (link here) so I guess WiMAX really can handle that kind of capacity.

They're really trying.
I remember the time when I just stopped complaining. It was after I moved to where I'm staying now and Streamyx became so bad I just stopped using it. When I got 3G, ok fine I can use the internet but it's slow, I didn't even bother complaining. This is one of the few telcos in Malaysia I've seen who looks like they're genuinely worried about how their service is perceived. Sure, their website isn't fully functioning and they're getting a lot of complaints, but I think only P1 and Digi have opened up the channels to let people shoot them.

This Yes Life thing is the killer app.
At first I didn't know what this Yes Life thing is about. After hearing the explanation and listening to the new Youtube about it I finally realised: this is the killer app. No more IDD. Wow. The fact that I can call and receive calls when I am overseas working at local rates is enough reason to subscribe. Right now it's just via PCs, but when their Andriod phone comes out Yes Life will definitely be on it. And their partnership with Apple so far tells me an Apple app isn't that far away either. I'm thinking of getting their HTC phone, since their CEO confirmed that it will have WiMAX + Wifi + SIM, it becomes the best roaming device. As long as I have Wifi, I'm in Malaysia. biggrin.gif

So far, I think YTL got good long term prospects if they keep improving. I can only see their 9 sen plan go downwards, one day maybe to 9 sen/9MB-3 min-9 sms?  tongue.gif They have to go down that route when the TV thing comes in next year, as HD TV is a few GB per movie. And then those who are on their plan will say goodbye to other telcos.

I've got a Huddle, it's been good so far. Just wanted to add my 10 cents worth.

For 3G USB modem, you can use a 3G router and connect to a hardware firewall.
This can imporove security. But i don't see is there  a way to connect the Wimax dongle to a hardware firewall.

Example of a good firewall:

you are right, currently really no such device can plug in 4g usb modem, but this is not the important part of security, is your data over air, capture by others, it is very dangerous, they can get your credit card info and other important data, so far i didnt see any security in wireless(3g,wifi,4g,wimax)...

I'm betting both of you don't use 3G on your phone, since there is no 'firewall' on your phone. Can I also assume you never use public Wifi like Starbucks? Sigh, you probably don't realize that your phone is telling the whole world where you are right now, and that SMS is also unencrypted and can be sniffed with a RM50 antenna box.

Malaysia has a lot of idiots.

omg...you miss-understand what i am talking about.
the data send/receive using https:// are secure even over the air.

What i means are those Malware/Trojan infection comming to your pc/laptop easily if your laptop/pc is not protected by a hardware firewall.
"Trojans have the same right on the system as does the logged in user. In other words, if the user can, the Trojan can. This includes deleting or modifying files, installing other software, uninstalling software, or sending sensitive password and login information to a remote attacker."

ya, im understanding your point, malware/trojan is everwhere on the net. i also agree hardware firewall, it really work on it! But it seem like many people think, my pc got anti-virus software, why i can infected by virus, is it anti-virus installed pc is immune from the virus???

malware/trojan, i can sure tell you, most is from usb(pen drive)/hard disk drive, but not from internet!

i jus need an estimation cost incur per month...appreciate any user can share ur usage per month...tq
*
i cant "guess" how much bandwidth you use monthly, since you have so many pc sharing it. why don't you install DU meter on each sharing pc, i think got similiar software for iphone and i pad too. then you can calculated how much exactly you used monthly...

it's often we think "i only use for surfing, check mail, msn,fb", i used not much bandwidth, may not correct without measurement.

The photo hosting site was down yesterday.
Now all links working again.

Is the connector the same as on your laptop wifi card?
Picture not very clear.
If it is, salvage the wires from a laptop and make your own antenna.
So nice of the manufacturer to provide an opening for your external antenna. smile.gif

Im not sure th epigtail connector is it same as laptop wifi card, but you can try if you have. yes, i think this is the original design, purpose for you attach external antenna, just like motorola have external antenna for their wimax usb modem.

sorry, this is take by my 2mp camera, is not clear.

Trojan horses can be installed through the following methods:
    * Software downloads
    * Bundling (e.g. a Trojan horse included as part of a software application downloaded from a file sharing network)
    * Email attachments
    * Websites containing executable content (e.g., a Trojan horse in the form of an ActiveX control)[4]
    * Application exploits (e.g., flaws in a Web browser, media player, instant-messaging client, or other software that can be exploited to allow installation of a Trojan horse)

I don't think antivirus or Internet security suites(software) is 100% effective against all type of malware out there.

better dun use internet, you not believe antivirus or Internet security suites(software). you sure firewall(hardware or software) can 100% protect your pc? i dun think so lo... no 1 can gurantee 100% bullet-proof from malaware, trojan, virus, etc...

even US pentagon also got hacked by hacker la, u think u got hardware firewall can stop the hacker?

Manage to borrow Yes GO dongle from my bro since he cannot install it on his laptop.

So far I'm pretty impress with the speed (average 5Mbps at SS18 Subang area) and finally able to login to Steam unlike Screamyx.

Is there any way to track your data usage when using YES? I already downloaded 10GB worth of data through Steam... tongue.gif From what I see on the billing page on their site, I still have RM10 as balance and RM10 for the rebate.

I still dunno how to check the data usage...  rclxub.gif

try download DU meter, it can help you calculate you data usage, this is very good software, it also can show you real-time bandwidth of your internet line. no need go to do speedtest, this can tell you the real bandwidth you reach, when you surf net or download or upload, i believe this is more accurate than speed test...

i think going to increase the transmit power seem impossible thing for now? alternative way is increase your rssi signal via attach external antenna.
