I just got my new Myvi and found out that the speaker does not have bass. Much worse than my desktop speaker at home.
Then manage to find this forum here, ICE.

I am a total noob on car audio system here. My only wish is only better music listening but
not to spend a great deal(eg >RM1k) and
not to get into some ayam brand,
and also possible not adding some really big woofer or amplifier at my boot.
Sorry if I offend people with really nice and good sound system with big amplifier and woofer, I do think that its very nice, but I need the boot space.

What is that I can do to start off with ?

read around the ICE sub-forum. plenty of recommendations given. for starters, get a good component set (around 600 bucks, eg. Dominations D'Lite) and HU (Alpine 100EUB, 500 bucks). save more for amp/woofer later. smile.gif

You definitely need to budget first.

An HU would be good to start with...

...But last time I changed comp set first, and I can hear the difference already (Focal 165A1)...

But to mount speaker for Myvi, you will need to make/cut a mould on your door trim... Since yours is a new car, you willing to sacrifice that not?

Even if you change the HU, you will need to replace the HU casing too....

Headache not? brows.gif

As a petrol head in essence, I can't get rid of this thought in my mind about steps in improving audio quality:
1. amp + woofer + complete wiring including those to the front speakers
2. front component speakers (unplug the factory rear speakers)
3. sound damping
4. head unit

Maybe those audiophiles in essence thinks otherwise?

in essense...

my opinion would be:
1. HU
2. Amp
3. driver
4. amp + sub

but that only applies when the ride has a shall we say proper factory ICE setup like the city, sentra, latio etc. which unlike myvi with a 4" up front...

so my essense for a myvi:
1. front component
2. HU
3. Amp
4. amp + sub

step 2 & 3 reverse if the deck is without built-in amp...

The head unit meaning the cd player that part right?

Thank you for all the replies. But i probably might just want to do it once off, as in might not be getting other things later. Is there anything like whole package(preferabaly without taking boot space, still preserve the look of the original car but improves sound system) that somebody can refer me to?

Why is it so complicated to improve car audio system?!! Isn't it much simpler to improve the sound system on a pc?! sad.gif

its hard to improve a car audio because

1. you are basically limited to the fact that the speaker placing isnt always the most optimum position...
2. your sitting position is not center of the 2 front drivers...
3. the speakers mostly runs free air... which it could be a huge problem when your computer speaker hasnt got its "box"

thats the biggest problem i always see so far...

if u are looking for bass only, u can install an active subwoofer which can help u save a lot of space.
by if u are looking for better sound quality, u have to spend few hundreds to modified ur door panel, not simply cut a hole and put in the speaker... u have to make a speaker mounting for ur speaker, wood is ideal choice for mounting...
dont install the aftermarket speaker casing, it will only spoil ur sound quality, custom make casing is the right way...
if ur budget less than 1k, u can install a 6' component set and get ur door panel modified properly...

maybe u can consider using 2nd hand amp & woofer. For component set, it's cheap so new set should be fine. Also, find a HU with usb port. Sure u wont regret it. Btw, I got mine complete set for around RM1.6K. All not chap ayam one.

Yes I totally dont mind a second hand set at all. Buying a sound system is not really to look at it but to listen to sound quality right.

An active sub woofer u say ? Meaning if I just want to add some bass to the original sound quality i just install an active sub woofer will do ?

active sub has an inbuilt amp together with the subwoofer. Normally shallow enough to fit under ur car seat. Not the best of choice of sub as we never consider it as a 'sub'. Good enough for those budget conscious and not a hardcore icer.

From this website here :

hxxp://kereta.info/basic-car-audio-system-specification-upgrade-installation-price/

which tallies with most of what have been discussed in this ICE forum. Basic thing to do to be satisfactory will be to change the

head unit and component set.

But if want more then only add amplifier and subwoofer later.

But the head unit in Myvi really that terrible mehhh ?? I quite like the design of the head unit thoughh..

Oh.. so IF i were to get that, I dont have to change the head unit nor component set, only add the active sub ?

Results will be satisfactory ?

The limitation of stock HU is the function... But if you think the function suit your taste, then just leave it.

Result is subjective.... you have to at least listen to it first.

Experience wise, after install... DON'T jump into cars with box subwoofer.... biggrin.gif

since he's not interested in SQ (sound quality) and just want some bass, then yes go ahead and just add the active sub and install under the seat first. if u have some extra cash left, can change the front 4inch speakers to coaxials.

later on, when u have the budget add component speaker set for the front and a 2ch amp maybe.
