QUOTE(Cirque @ Dec 10 2010, 09:47 AM) Brand: HTC (in a pinch I may compromise for a Samsung/Motorola though, but I really prefer HTC) If you like HTC so much, there is only 1 phone in the 1k category. The Wildfire. Low screen res though. Uses Eclair a.k.a 2.1 Budget: say around RM1000, maybe a few hundred more if need be. Specs: Speed processor depending on screen size I guess, but in general 600-800MHz is alright with me. Capacitive touchscreen preferred, but I'm not too picky. Decent camera (shutter speed, focus) Mid- to large-sized screen Battery life should be decent for some music playback, occasional internet browsing, but mostly just regular calls/txt messages (decent meaning, up to 3 days and over if possible - it's a stretch I know but I'm not a heavy net user on mobiles and besides music and a few apps I'll mostly just call and text message. My iPod takes care of most net/games/music though) Android 2.0 above if possible, I know updates are hell to wait for... So overall a phone good for essential phone usages, with a decent battery/camera/resolution/processor (doesn't have to be excellent) I was actually looking at the HD2 but the dealbreaker was that it's a WM6.5...not even a 7 (and I want an Android anyway) Much appreciated guys ![]() There is also another choice which is the Samsung Galaxy 5. RM 650. Same screen res as the Wildfire but only has a 2mp camera. The Wildfire has a 5mp camera. |

QUOTE(akash3656 @ Dec 10 2010, 05:46 PM) From what I hear Legend is going to have Froyo about now? and Wildfire will have it "soon" according to HTC Hmm. Does he use the camera often? If yes, go for the xt720 or x10i. I'm not sure about the ui on both of these phones though. They also have an adequate screen size and res. Easy enough for beginners as they are big. The Desire is also a good phone if he does not plan to change his phone for some time. SGS seems a little too complicated due to the modding and the lag issues.http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_legend_froyo_u...t-news-2132.php Added on December 10, 2010, 9:25 pmAlright, my friend wants to buy a new phone. I'm suggesting him Android, he is coming from the old Nokia colour phones so an easy UI would be good for him. 1. Brand. (Any) 2. Budget. (1.2-1.4k) 3. Specs. (Any thing that falls under the budget) 4. What you need in the phone (Nothing special required) As this is his first first touch screen and smartphone, I wonder what should he buy?... I have suggested him this according to decreasing order of prices. I have suggested things slightly out of his budget as he may increase it later on. 1.8K - Samsung Galaxy S 8 GB 1.6K - HTC Desire 1.4K - HTC Aria/Legend He does not plan to buy another phone for at least a few years... Whats ur recommendation? Thanks Added on December 10, 2010, 11:02 pmBut i doubt that the x10i or the xt720 will last for a few years. Ignore my post and go for the Desire This post has been edited by xDarkKn1ghtx: Dec 10 2010, 11:02 PM |

QUOTE(mimi89 @ Dec 10 2010, 11:54 PM) Hey i did some research about SE X10. It has a 65k display on 4 inch screen. However i am confused with the 65k and 262 k colour display. I am a colour blind and i cant see some of the numbers in the undang test, so I doubt that i am able to notice the difference between 65k and 262k display. Sad to hear that. Not much diff cept from a few colour tone which might be lighter or darker. Its quite similar unless you are really particular about it. but 256k and 1.67mil is significantly differentHow your opinion? |

QUOTE(akash3656 @ Dec 11 2010, 02:12 PM) Alright.... I know Motorola has already given up on xt720 and SE has screwed up the X10 in performance and stability... Whereas Desire should get 2.3, I mean its Google twin (Nexus 1) already has 2.3 on the way...... The Defy is still using 2.1? Lol, he doesn't drop phones often... He is a careful person... If the Defy is 1.4K, then I can recommend him that after I read through the reviews.... But erm..... Motorola doesn't really have good Customer Service or so I hear?? + I doubt their 2.2 update will be coming any time soon. |

QUOTE(Princess90 @ Dec 12 2010, 11:14 PM) 1. Brand. HTC (Thinking about Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD) Is HTC a must? If you don't mind using an acer phone, theres a new phone called the Liquid Metal with the same gpu/processor with the Desire Z. RRP only 1299. Screen size is 3.7 TFT iirc. Like phantomesh said, if you have small hands, holding a big phone like the DHD will be a hassle and most pants will not fit it.2. Budget. Of course the lower the better 3. Specs. (Dunno) 4. What you need in the phone Use to browse web, listen music, play games (girly games not those guy games like shooting), GPS, take pictures. Definitely need flash. Use to view documents. Just wonder if I really need Desire HD... I like Aria a lot but the down thing is camera flash.. So I don't really know which to buy... Have been delaying for a long time to buy because I don't wanna spend money on things that I don't need. In actual fact I don't even know why I even wanna change phone... Another thing is that I always drop my phone and stuff. So its important that the phone is tough so that I don't have to keep on repairing if I drop it. |

QUOTE(NuKkE @ Dec 14 2010, 08:46 PM) Galaxy 3 is using Froyo now. Wildfire if you prefer HTC and the sense UI. Not sure if its getting Froyo in the future. LG Optimus is not recommended after the long history of LG's sucky phones.QUOTE(subse7en @ Dec 15 2010, 09:45 AM) 1. Brand. acer Liquid Metal is a nice choice as the same processor is used in DHZ. You can also opt for Desire AP which is a bit old. Go for acer if you like the design or Desire if you like the Sense UI.2. Budget. 1.5k + 200 3. Specs. RAM=512 0r better, 5mp cam with AF, can surf smoothly, led flash or xenon 4. What you need in the phone - surf, app, games, call, can play flash also can upgrade(android version) in future how about acer liquid metal? |

QUOTE(clutch31 @ Dec 16 2010, 04:56 PM) I've pretty much dropped the Nexus S to the bottom of my list, for a variety of reasons. 5 MP camera, no Micro SD card, retarded advertising, etc. Any other recommendations? |

QUOTE(clutch31 @ Dec 16 2010, 06:59 PM) Well, after losing my Hero, I didn't get the Desire because at that time, word was the DHD was coming out "soon". Bloody hell, if I knew soon meant half a year later, I would have gone ahead and gotten the Desire and be done with it. Yea true. A Nexus S in Malaysia will be a rare sight unless they choose to launch it officially here. The LG Star is the best you've got now. You won't have to change your phone for a year or two if you get it. And sphiroth, go for the Desire. AP is 1.5k. Ori is around 1.8-9. Theres also a new white colour version which looks nicer. But now that the DHD is out, I'm not that impressed by it anymore, mainly because it took them so damn long to release it, potong stim already. Love became hate. I looked up LG Star, and yea it sounds good. But I hope it doesn't turn out to be another SGS which I was VERYCLOSE to buying - specs look good on paper only, didn't fully translate into good user experience. Guess I'll have to play with it myself before I decide to get it or not, or at least wait for more in-depth reviews, but yea, this LG Star is definitely near the top of my list right now. Come on LG, don't be a moron like HTC. Just release the damn phone right here right now and let me take a look at it. EDIT: But then again, Nexus S has that uncommon appeal. Like "you won't see this phone available in your common phone shop, you common peon" kind of appeal. LG, on the other hand, sounds like something that you buy when you cannot afford a proper phone (sorry LG users). I think for me to seriously consider buying the LG Star, it needs to be WOW. Like really WOW. Like "holy $%#@ where can i get one of that" kind of WOW. |
