Hey I got a few weapons questions:

I got my warrior/mesmer to searing (Finally, gaming on somebody else's schedule is a sloooow task), and I was swaping around weapons when I found somebody who was willing to sell a chaos axe for 700gp.

The damage is 6-27 (10 axe mastery req), and is just shy of the max (which is 28 I believe) so I got the player to sell it for 650gp.

Can somebody tell me if it was a wise purchace? Note that I am just starting out, and just wanted to have it in my inventory in case my luck started to suck again with drops... which usually does. I thought 650 was a good bargain... pls tell me I didn't get ripped off tongue.gif

Well that's a relief hehe. Why are tribal/dwarven axes and sickles different in pricing tho?

I'm not really hurtin from the price. I actually wasn't really interested; more or less curious... but when he accepted the 650, I was like (dang! should have tried to get him down to 500g) laugh.gif

I just had to have it tho drool.gif the glowyness is so Starwars! I'll add an axe grip.. and it should hold me out until I find something leeter in drops. I always find leeter drops eventually.

Now when I get some extra dye, I'm gonna color this baby tongue.gif

Thanks for the generous offer huh smile.gif I'm actually fine. I may not be the richest kid on the block but when I needed, I can go out and get it. To me it's part of the game yknow?

Wow! Thanks huh for all the tips, and the dye chart. I had no idea sickles were so popular. LOL back when I wasn't considering a warrior build I found quite a few sickles that I sold to the merchant (their stats weren't anything to call home about).

Are crystalline those swords with the see-thru blade? I got one in a quest presearing; it was nice until I found a more powerful axe, so I sold it for gold.

TBH the only reason I started a warrior build; and my ranger build, was because I was finding some pretty kewl axes/bows and felt like it was a waste selling them. So I decided that I will adjust my build strategies based upon the best weapons I find smile.gif

I found this really cool looking golden 'hand axe of defense' (6-26, damage +17% when hexed, armor +5) usin my primary character. The best one I've found in a drop so far smile.gif It's not much but it looks really cool: It's really big and has a long hooked blade. I'm gonna use that as soon as I meet its requirements.

My warrior currently is using a Sephis Axe; which I really like. Hoping to find a maxed out one biggrin.gif It's really a unique looking weapon.

I've never seen a Dwarven Axe tho... hope to come across it smile.gif

Hey how about those shadow sheilds? I've seen a person selling them (3k min) and they look really kewl! They were clean tho so I didn't bother; but do they glow? I only saw the icon and it looked like it might glow if u apply some dye to it...

Anyways right now I'm fiddling with a new character (Ranger/Necro) I'm really surprised as how quickly I racked up the necro skills. I have 5 necro skills, and I didn't even see the second trainer yet (hopefully she'll have some new ones to give).

I like the fresh feel of this build tho. I play very differently when I play my E/R; W/Mes and R/N. Each build has its own feel and play strategy. Lotsa fun biggrin.gif

Hope to see ya on Guild Wars sometime huh smile.gif

Great Idea! Here's my characters smile.gif

user posted image

The middle one, Seth, is my main character. The others are still starting out; the warrior just reached the searing, and the ranger is pre-searing.

I can't wait to fire up GW again, as soon as I get some work done...

Ya I'm enjoying my new ranger/necro build biggrin.gif

My elementalist build spoiled me with his huge energy reserve... but nothing a lil energy managment/strategy won't help. I'm seeing an Elementalist/Mesmer (or me/el) in my future tho...

I'm finding that the ranger (like the warrior) is only as effective as the weapon it weilds (when focusing on marksmanship that is). But the fact that you can deal damage from a distance with the longbow is a real bonus...

Another thing I noticed is that I got a lot of skills in pre-searing very quickly... but maybe that's because I'm not the n00b I was back when I first started. I was also able to level up really fast with the ranger... and have a easier time charr hunting...

That's pyromancer 15k armor set  biggrin.gif . Not very much diffrent from droknar armor... just a little more detail on her top and dress. The tattoo u mentioned are actually sexy nettings.
*
LOL alright biggrin.gif I guess my characters are still pretty "humble" tongue.gif aw well, as soon as I find the merchant that deals the 15k armor, I'm gonna get me sum thumbup.gif

Just saw urs huh (my dialup sometimes robs me of viewing really big files)... I've always thought necros looked sinister, in a really cool way smile.gif

The character designers/animators of Guild Wars did a terrific job imo smile.gif

I have a question about the armor that I'm confused about.

Elementalists armor's energy storage increase is stackable: i.e. each peice contributes to increasing the max energy pool... Does that mean it's armor level is stackable as well? What about it's protection against certain elemental damage?

I'm confused because I was reading this debate a while ago about the warrior armor; and how it's armor value is universal, not stackable (meaning the boots will give you 80 AL no matter where your hit; and adding another 80+ to ur vest wont increase the over all AL)... which also got really confused...

Can anybody give me the lowdown?

QUOTE(huh @ Sep 28 2005, 03:00 PM)
heheeheh i chose the most evil looking face for my necro, one without irises smile.gif
since my eyes were fully white, i thought i'd make my hair white, and my body white as well
now the only problem is there's no such thing as white dye
or if there is, it only works on monks

and the armour thing you're thinking of is probably the debate about knight's/ascalon armour
1 piece of knight's/ascalon armour provides universal damage reduction
so a person with full knights armour isn't very well informed (like i was some time back tongue.gif)
thats why i'm not using full platemail now, my helmet is knight's helm
was thinking of ascalon helm, but it wouldn't mix well with platemail so i stuck with my knights helm
*
Sweet, lol I think I'm gonna go for an all red-deamon kinda look for my pyro biggrin.gif

One question; I haven't any experience with dyes (collecting them and saving them for the 15k armor), but what does adding dye-removal to a peice of armor do?

shakehead.gif Ya I'm referring to that rather confusing debate... So why is the Knight's armor so different? U mean I will only need one peice of the knights or Ascalon's armor to gain the universal damage reduction benifite?

*confused* huh.gif

Anyways I'll have to look at the stats closely before I buy. I'm liking the Gladiator armor for the extra energy it gives...

You can have a second profession and not use it at all.
But you need a second profession to leave pre-searing.

My Necro/Mesmer doesn't touch any mesmer skills at all, mainly cos I'm more of a minion-master and concentrate on making armies. smile.gif

And let me tell ya, I ran with this dude... and man can he amass an army wink.gif

Wanted to Thank Overloard huh for the great time I had, for all the insights, the generosity and for helpin me get my first character to level 20! We pwnd them jungle skales lol thumbup.gif Hope to run witcha again some day bro.

Thanks for the insights on the armor Koross. Can't wait to get my hands on some Knights/Ascalon boots then biggrin.gif

LOL actually I've always wanted the henchies to be more chatty. If anything, they should banter with eachother, yknow like you see some NPC's talking to eachother.

They could also do things like call their targets (at least those warriors will be of some use).

p.s. I think Alesia the healer is cuter than Cynn... LET THE NERD WARS BEGIN!!!11111 lol

For some reason I was having problems posting for a couple of days :S Glad to see its working for me now...

I'm really enjoying my Ranger/Necro lol and I got my pet 'Stretch', a moa
bird, to keep me company during those long nights of soloing.

I actually lucked up and ended up in a really good guild. UK based, which means there's the timezone difference, but they are pretty active.

I haven't had much time to play, my priority is getting my ele/ranger ascended...

Oh and Ramadan Kareem to all y'all Muslim Guildwars'ers lol smile.gif

EDIT: Yo, Huh; I understand the 'minion master' part of Overlord Huh's role. But wats the 'battery' part mean?

Thanks for the explination Koross. The necro build is becoming more and more interesting to me...

That's a really cool build Huh. I might try something like that with my ranger/necro. Right now I'm using a few necro skills to cause health degen/debuff to make my damage dealing more effective. Just using the skills I have available right now (which aren't many as I'm still only level 9)

Necro skills are suprisingly fast to unlock tho, but maybe that's just me.

Oh and an interesting article, although many of you might be on top of this:

hehe wow 1 million biggrin.gif congrats smile.gif Definitly get the best armor you like for all your characters sweat.gif and all the dyes so you can make crazy color combos cool.gif and then *rant rant rant* drool.gif

LOL be creative tongue.gif

Currently I'm saving up as much as possible, juggling 3 characters hehe

Just got collectors armor for my lvl 20 elementalist lol (I don't know why this excites me, I got more of a rush from this than buyin my first pyro set) it looks really cool lol and should keep me alive till I get my hands on the 15k stuff.

Hehe I seriously wish they gave more storage in the storage boxes... I have few suggestions I'm gonna throw anet's way about this.

But ya, this game is addictive unsure.gif every time I logon, even to work I have to stop myself from firing up xfire/guildwars lol

Even when I don't feel like questing I just run around aimlessly slaughtering stuff, taging along other ppls quests and other silly randomness lol.

Hey Huh smile.gif how goes it! We should run again sometime, last time I logged on I was helpin out a bud... hope ur farmin went well smile.gif

hehe that's uber smile.gif

I'm not far enough into the game to farm yet. I'm running my levl 12 chars (Menelik and Maalik) and trying to get them leveled up as fast as i can... or rather, as fast as my gaming-partner will let me tongue.gif

This game is seriously addictive tho... and ya there seems to be larger clusters of mesmers/necros out there than there used to be. I'm not complaining tho, I like the added challange...

My strategy for surviving PVE is:
Monk->Necro->Mesmer->Ranger->Elementalist->Warrior

- Monks heal everybody, killing them is half the battle
- Necros debuff like crazy and can kill you faster than anything else
- Mesmers interrupt and leave you energy-less
- Rangers' poision and exploding arrows are dangerous in large groups (3-4 rangers can do me in if I'm not careful)
- Elementalists are never a threat to me in pve
- warriors in large groups are dangerous, but easy to pick off with the right skillbar

Anyways I'm sure these fundamentals are known and I'm basically preaching to the choir; but I thought listing them would give y'all a lil perspective. You'd be surprised how easily some gamers forget this in the heat of battle; hammering the warriors cuz they seem the most threatening lol.

Personally I like the way Anet changes things up to keep ppl off balance... it keeps the game unpredictable enough to make it interesting, without it being overly frustrating.

Huh, btw remember those lvl 19 jungle skales? Last jungle run, I had a group of henchies and we mopped the floor with em lol. I find a good trick is to wait and let the henchies get all the debuffs/interrupts than come in when they are 'exhausted'... by then their skills are usually recharging and they are low on energy...

*whistles*

LOL wow I betta get farmin then. What I meant was that I haven't unlocked all the skills that would make me an effective solo farmer; mainly the traps. I guess I could go back to the "easier" areas, but then it would be boring for me lol, I like the satisfaction of pwning foes that are close to my rank...

I can farm pretty well with a healer and a warrior henchie... but then I wouldn't be getting 100% of the drops (I read somehwere that henchies do take their share of drops, in addition to gold and xp)...

Ah well, it will come in good time...

Dammit Huh, lol I was really lookin forward to finding that tribal axe >_<

Hey is a clean 6-18 (req 5) sickle worth anything? O_o

Where do u go to get items appraised? gotta start paying attention.

I never got scammed, because I don't trade much (I do get lots of scam attempts, esp with my presearing character).

However, I did buy a 11-22 water wand with bogus stats (+ energy while health below 50%) for 450g because I wanted to make a water elementalist... should have paid no more than 200-300g imo >_< so, I just have to pay attention to the stats: Make sure there aren't any bogus conditions for that extra energy/armor/health etc.

LOL that's too bad about the presearing "boot lady" as gamers reffer to her. Luckily I got my necro boots before the update hehe... and made a mint off of selling spider legs/unnatural seeds at Fort Ranik (nearly 1k O_O) Hope they find out where she's been moved off to...

nimloth32, I use Zonealarm and haven't experienced any slow-down in game play. Other than the occasional lag when the servers are full; but I blame my lousy 50.6 kbps dialup for that

That's not exactly an accurate way to find a value. I have bought/sold items for far more than its "value" shown by the id kit.

It kind of burns when you pay 1k for something, only to find it worth 300 gold lol...

I'm just curious if there is some kinda "committee" since you have ppl saying "WTS **** serious offers" or "No n00b offers". I'd hate to be the one to make a n00b offer; buy something for more than it's worth, or sell something wayyy to cheap.

So far I base pricing (For purchasing) on the stats I'm looking for. So I might be offered a 'gold item' that has sub-par stats (again this is subjective) so to me it's value is low: I might price it at 1k, and won't pay a goldpeice more, whereas the seller thinks its worth 30k...

So my question is, is pricing as subjective as I make it... or is there some kinda rule to the pricing structure: For example, all maxed out Tribal axes/sickles go for no less than 1 mil because they are rare... if so then is there some kind of list I should be looking at... to protect me from looking stoopid, and getting scammed...

LOL the holloween updates are hillarious. Haven't seen any "mad king". It is exciting how devs can change the game environments lol, (this is my first MMO)

In all honsety I'm going through a "mucking about" phase; I have a level 20 character who's just begging to ascend, but dont really feel like any "serious" gaming... so I'm just hunting, helping out lower levels and foolin around with my necro in pre... managed to get some worth-while hunting done; found some items I can immedeatly use... so its all good

Hey the holloween party-favors horseman is in Ascalon City now, for those who are still new (searing), check it out, you'll need charr carvings tho smile.gif

LOL the Holloween in LA was definitly fun. Bumped into Huh over there and managed to catch the ceremony from the beginning tongue.gif (where a certain dev made complete fools of all of us, prior to the Mad King's arrival)

LOL I only died once tho; cuz I didn't know wat emote to use for "Team Spirit" (I used /cheer, but I guess I was wrong). But, the 'Mad King Says' game was defintly fun... esp cuz there was always 1 person dying tongue.gif

We did look like a bunch of goofballs; dancing, jumping and dying about. I'm sure the devs were laughing their heads off watching us...

I used up all my holloween loot (Od'd on Absanthie with my gf and ran around Ascalon nekkid lol); except for a few squash serums... gonna hold on to that for a bit.

Sure hope the devs make more events like this lol, it was a nice change of pace to see cities redecorated...

I'm suddenly feeling a strong urge to get my lvl 20 ele ascended... Later on tonight I'm gonna see how close I can get to it...

EDIT:

here are some more screencaps of Holloween in Lion's Arch

It's a good moon...

shivers me timbers!

bubble bubble; toil and trouble!

He feels right at home...

My sweet henchies...

Awww, well I'm sure the'll be lotsa other live events. I personally don't celebrate Holloween, it was just fun to participate in a 'live even't on an MMO; since this is my first ever MMO experience it's quite special smile.gif

I had a great Eid with my family tho smile.gif

lol I was just doin a quest with my lvl 12 R/N and due to some lag ended up carrying an arrow in my hand tongue.gif took a goofy screenshot...

Ready for action!

...and Yes, that Strider is my pet biggrin.gif Meet Stretch ladies and gentleman. He's quite the pecker, and fun company to have around thumbup.gif

I'm sure this has happened to other players... but it's funny nonetheless. Hey, ever wonder where the Ranger keeps his arrows? blink.gif he just pulls them out of thin air tongue.gif
