1. No, flashing is a matter of reading and following instructions. Tools are available if you read thru this tread and v1.

2. You can install custom roms and you can design your own if you have the time and skill. But no HTC sense.

3. My sis has the HTC Desire, and after playing with both, my answer is NO. Am very satisfied with my Galaxy S. The screen alone more than tips the scales. Plus there are so many other specs that the Desire can't beat, ie sound system, processing speed etc etc.

That's not true. Android 2.1 comes with Flash Lite 4 support, so you do get Flash content. Froyo (2.2) comes with Flash 10.1 which is what you get on the desktop. So yes, you can watch youtube through the YouTube app AND the browser (you just need to enable it). Flash games I'm not sure as I've never tried any, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Cheers. 

I own a htc magic before and after updated with the official ROM from HTC to have Sense I can't root it anymore and stuck at 1.5. I don't know why people think Sense is nice but I found it has some issue also. It did show a nice UI for mail and messages but once the no of message increase, it lag like hell.
For eg. SMS, when you have a lot of SMS when you tried to delete you need to wait for about 10 seconds to get it refresh.

For SGS you can use Laucher Pro and customise as you like. Even there are a lot of widgets looks like Sense you can find.
Have you check the HD recording quality SGS has? Have you check the benchmark performance comparison SGS with Desire?

What problem? I didn't have any problem in the beginning.

digi rm68 is 3gb per month la... plus, they throttle you if you pass the 3gb limit to 64kps. so you won't get any surprise when you get the bill.

to me that's much more fair compare to maxis.

maxis is a real f****up money sucker. you think they don't have the technology or ways to inform you if you exceed limits? bullshit...they do, but they will never implement it coz this is one way for them to milk more from it's users. it's a very underhanded and immoral method.

so i bot the sgs from them and cancelled the contract few weeks laters. i just want the phone, not going to support companies like this.

problems i faced:
- GPS very inaccurate and sometimes cannot lock signals and shows me in different country.... not to mention it cannot track continuously....
- Phone hangs when i am in a conversation and another caller comes in....
- quite frequent lags that sometimes can only be fixed by restarting the phone
- email apps takes long time to load the contents
- GSM signal quite erratic, phone must be held certain way to avoid drop in signals.... just like iphone 4 but maybe not as severe.... i am not sure....but it bothers me because i can see the signal dropping 2-3 bars when i hold it certain way
-keyboard which i just cannot get accustomed to, i dont know if its a problem of the touch screen sensor which is not precised or because of the size of the device that is a bit too wide....but the bottom line is that i find myself making lots of typing mistakes when using it one handedly
- overall samsung touchwiz quirks and the widgets are not to my liking....
- firmware fix update for my asia pacific region doesnt seem to come along fast enough... i only see one update which is the one thats giving me all the problems mentioned above..... but i see the european firmware gets update very frequently.....this makes me mad.... but the bad thing is that even the european updates seems to be still having most of the problems, especially the gps problem....

The battery life is great actually, you can check what is eating your battery life. For me, it's always the display. So I turn it down to lowest brightness which is plenty bright for indoor use.

Some android apps are heavy. So you might wanna check out the size before downloading.

The keyboard holds no problems for me. I use 1 handed thumb swiping when i am walking. No problem whatsoever.

You mean google maps? Well, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (for locking your location).

I receive calls/sms in my pocket. and I use a case, and I put it in a pouch.
No dropped calls when calling either if I am holding it, or if it's in my pocket, using a case and in a pouch while I use a bluetooth headset.

The location thing, may have had a problem with wifi IP identification.
If I just use pure GPS location finding, it always identifies me at the right location.

Using google maps.

AP set are those imported from outside malaysia.
8GB versions are all AP set.
Some 16GB versions are AP set.

Samsung will honour warranty for local sets, with serial numbers designated for local consumption.

This is no different from any other mobile phone, or manufacturer.
Just by looking at the lowyat garage, you can already see a lot of AP set samsung galaxy S floating around.

Is there something that you're overly concerned about?

As of now, if you want to ensure you get an original set, just go to maxis and get one. (warranty you can claim either at maxis or samsung)
Just assume all other sets are not original sets designated for Malaysia at the moment, because samsung has given rights to maxis for priority sales.

Reason is because the only time samsung has offered direct release of original set was during PIKOM pc fair. And those numbers were very limited.
I took a first hand use on the device, it is the exact same firmware as mine. Not EU version.

I wouldn't try installing that firmware, phone version is different.

yeah...ORI set will be send to SAMSUNG centre for warranty..but i don noe about AP set..i guess the shop will take warranty for that.. 

Something to do with your apps or app settings, methinks.

I am on JM2 firmware, rooted and with mimocan kernel-based lagfix with 1GB ext4 partition on sdcard. I have gmail and gtalk always online. I sync contacts and calendar with my google account. I have seesmic twitter client running and checking for updates every 30 mins. My email client (IMAP4 to work account) checks email every 30 minutes too. I've stopped using bloo (facebook client) because it was buggy. Web browsing about 30-60 mins a day, 10-30 minutes of calls daily, probably 10 SMS a day. I have not tried using the GPS yet. I don't listen to music on the phone, though, and I only watch about 30 mins of video on average in a day (too busy at work).

I take my phone off the charger at 8am, it lasts me through the day until I get home at 10pm (about 30% of juice left). BTW, I am on Digi and my WIFI and 3G/HSDPA radios are turned on all the time.

~ i read from net, they say, galaxy S using android 2.1 score 890 while nexus 1 using froyo score 1390 when they make benchmark test.. they say after we update to froyo, the score will higher 50% than nexus 1..

Hi guys,

My phone is quite hot and it will auto-reboot if it's too hot, anyone facing this problem? After restarted my phone, it seems like the problem solved. I view from android system info, it shows that my internal memory 89%, RAM 35%, I only use around 1gb from my 16gb. My CPU usage around 25-35% including 25% by android system info and 10% by android system. I don't understand why it will happen.

I'm glad we managed to get you on the SGS. I'm sure you'll find it a very fulfilling experience.

Maybe occasionally with too much fiddling, a stressful one when things go wrong.

But overall, if you travel a lot and like to update friends on your travels, try the 'ontheroad' app from market.

Also, follow our earlier discussion on ways to minimise your phone bill etc by doing some APN settings and such.
