i know that practical knowledge is important. tats y i m asking how should i kick start. but i stil think some basic theoretical knowledge on circuit analysis is important.

anyway. thanks for ur advice. i m looking at the tangentsoft website now

Theoretical knowledge? I don't have much of those even for the CMoy, what more the Class AB. You're right, seems like I couldn't go much farther than those two amp designs unless I buy PCBs.

I want to crack The Art of Electronics. Read now, or in college..?

i suggest both..

if you just want to know more about audio electronic, extended reading and Q&A with all the sifus here is enough i think..

if you wan to dig deeper..say microelectronic..books oni have theory knowledge..u must have access to all the expensive equipment..then attending college is a must..

more deeper...say nano technology/quantum electronics...u must befriend with the top of the crop professor around the world..there goes your savings you collect from building thousands of cmoys...haha

the deepest of electronic..u found new property of electronics..and u start thinking there shud be new laws to explain the event...and then there goes your 1st THEORY!!! hahaha...

sweat.gif ...sorry.. off topic...i missed my physic classes.. laugh.gif

I'd advice against reading art of electronics...right after the first few chapters it goes really deep into electronics and most people wouldnt be able to comprehend it unless you have mastered the basics (which takes a year in uni). find yourself a copy of "US NAVY ELECICAL ENGINEERING" course book, it is a whole text book used for E&E. There are some very basic stuff in there, and also some advance stuff but it doesnt cover very specific problems like the art of electronics. After you have studied most of the stuff that you'd need to know in the us navy book, you can then go look check out the art of electronics for more in depth information.

I'd be sending some ebooks to mikechai, maybe u can get a copy from him later....I tried to upload them but it screwed up and it was around 400mb of them (not even half of my collection yet biggrin.gif)

Practical knowledge = mechanic talk
Theoretical knowledge = engineering talk

you'd need quite some theoretical knowledge before you can start designign your own amps, as for building amps and quoting what others said....you wont need to bother about reading text books tongue.gif

@AlamakLor
where can i find the books that you mentioned? i really wan to read up some stuff as uni's circuit analysis is super boring. i need something extra to learn about the applications

i'll try to upload the stuff i was suppose to send to mikechai in these 2 days (BTing lots of stuff now, connection temporarily crippled atm). I will pm you the link after it has been successfully uploaded. The RARed files total about 300mb. There are lots of e-books in there, and some interesting articles. These are specifically picked from my collection, and is most practical for audio circuits. The US NAVY ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING book should also be in there.

after im done with the standard mount version, I'll post up the BOM and the pcb image here and on head-fi for those who wanna fabricate it...this is a single layer version..so DIY at home will be no problem.

those are done with eagle pcb...you will need a full version to remove the board size restriction. the 3d drawing is done by pov ray. the image library isnt perfect....but good enough to give you an idea of how it looks like.

The USN ebook is not free right? So you're saying its gentler to noobs than AOE? I see...

I have the Opamps for Everyone ebook, and the only part I can digest is the overview and history part sweat.gif .

i did. last year i think. this is the first diamond buffer module that i've made.

since then, i've made another 4 diamond buffers, upgraded/optimized the layout as i go on.

if you wanna use professional fabricated PCBs, then you could quite possibly don't need any of those electronic craps.
those boards have clear marking that shows the pin orientation, marked the polarity of components, some even have the values printed on it.

with those PCBs, even a PIMETA is easier to build compared to a CMOY. well maybe you still need to know that a capacitor has a polarity, and the orientation of ICs. and maybe read numbers. whistling.gif stick to the BOM that everyone uses and you're good to go.

Hehe yea. Hoping to have empire23 get some of those for me.

Sig: lol someone has to amp up the community icon_rolleyes.gif . I'll probably have a year and a half to play the forum's builder, hopefully I can build the higher end SOHA and PPA amps you offered.

oh hey people, I have a guy on head-fi asking me to build him a millett and a pint, so I need to order some stuff from tangent...I can order the board or build the amps for whoever who wants them....withotu casing work. OR, I can order the parts and send them back to you as a kit for you to DIY. however, shipping for the boards along will be cheaper since it can go by document, shipping for the premade amp will be 7.90CAD by airmaill parcel. for small stuff like the pint/pimeta I can send a bunch back and you guys can share shipping. lemme know if anybody needs my help wink.gif

EDIT: *no more pint board...discont*

There are also some millett boards left if anybody wanna build them.

why bother with a TREAD board? that's super easy to do.
not sounding pessimistic, but going the PCB way leads you to only pre-selected components. finding alternative parts has low to no possibility.

Ehh, you're right. I was working on a perf board layout. It must have left my mind after the house shifting. For the other boards... rclxub.gif No choice..I'm too lazy and n00bish to do these on a doughnutboard.

Maybe a STEPS board then icon_idea.gif
