guys, my HD650 is going to arrive this week

And i do not have a proper portable amp for it. The PA2V2 (warm) + HD650(warm/dark) will result a slightly over-dark sounding.

So i was wondering any recommended Portable DIY Amps to pair it up with the HD650?

chernloon, what about the Mint or Sijosae AB?

Will they work fine with the 650?

hi guys,

issit Different brand of batteries will result distorted noise in the music from headamp?! I got such issue on my 1 pair of new 9V Batt connecting to Mini EPH.

What is ur guys favo & reliable 9v batteries?
(FYI, the headamp works as a charm wif transformer)
*

battery power is suppose to be cleaner than wallwarts (fancy name for DC adapter). are you sure your battery is not dirty? try cleaning it and plugging it back in. biggrin.gif

maybe the MiniEPH needs a lil more power? are you paralelling the battery? as in using 2X9Vs? try using just one and see if it goes away.
as for battery recomendation, i only use Energizers now. since i need to confirm that the Sijosae Class AB won't burn with them. i used to test with Duracells, but then Futura found out that the amp burns with Energizers. rclxms.gif thanks to Futura for finding that out.
so now, only using Energizers. QC if would call.

i don't think the PA2V2 would justify the HD650. in fact, i don't think the PA2V2 could even drive the cans. with 1.5V P-P (that's point to point) voltage drive, the HD650 could maybe be too hard to be driven by the 3V amp.

the HD650 is a high impedence headphone, and are driven by voltage drive rather than current drive. you'd need something that has 9V voltage drive at least.
the PIMETA could be a good choice. but guess those are not quite portable. that only leaves the META/MINT variant and the sijosae class AB.

so erm doc (in a "asking a doctor for help" tone) will the sijosae completely distinguish the HD650's warm, dark, laid back sound? Cuz i dun want anymore overbright stuffs, i just want an amp to make it slightly brighter.

i have no idea.
Medufsaid tested the Class AB on his HD650 (or issit HD600) and he said that minimal difference from amping it. hard to believe since it's running with 9V P-P with that config. maybe of the sucky Opamp.

why not test it yourself? people have different opinions about it. some says minimal, some says huge. some don't say anything. and i don't know whether it's still working or not with them. 10 people in here are using the CLass AB and only 1-2 person wrote a review. NONE is surfacing in Garage Sales yet. cool.gif

I don't have enough dough for one of those. Unless you and/or others buy one for me as well, I'm too spiteful to help people get something I covet.

Going tomorrow. Anyway, you can get all those from Pasar Rd, no need to scrounge up to Singapore. I'm going there for a holiday. Finding good stuff at Sim Lim is secondary biggrin.gif .
