Why do u need a snorkel? Most probably your river crossing won't be that deep. I doubt that u going hardcore with your kembara.

Hi there. Is it the snorkel itself cost less than RM500 u mentioned here? btw the purpose of installing the snorkel is not only because of water/mud deep crossing. it is also for the benefit of our engine e.g clean and cooler air compare to the air under the bonet...definitely prolong the lifespan of engine/turbo etc...

Search in Mudah, or i think mun lee auto has it.
Or u can hv it custom made using those bling bling stainless steel pipe.

Frontier is famous for engine oil starvation. Some problem with the lube pump, pumping not enough oil for engine lubrication. If u no high rev often, it should do fine.

Your question is actually depends on the pick-up truck usage.
If your concern purely about overall reliability and longevity, they are no other better than Hilux. Old tech engine always deliver. Ranger/Triton/Navara/Dmax is a solid 2nd choice in that perspective. Though the new Ranger would find sparepart much harder that make it fall hard to 3rd place in your choice.

Avoid BT-50 at all cost. My cousin's Mazda Fighter have to change the engine 2 times while my friend change the engine 1 time. What have made it so dramatic is the fact that those 2 happened while still serving the loan. rclxub.gif . well, i guess nothing can go wrong with experience.

again, it is just an opinion from me. The decision still in your hands.

What's the reason for the engine change? Ford ranger n bt 50 are sister...same engine n all, only diff body n interior.

Hi, any hilux n60 owner here? im looking for a sub RM30k 03-04 Hilux 2.5 D4D SR TURBO (AT), would like to ask about the:

-vehicle reliability
-vehicle drivability around town and busy place like damansara uptown/kajang town, drivability for long journey, like getting from one state to another.
-spare parts availability
-maintenance of the vehicle
-commonly known problem or commonly fault issue
-modifications, steel bumper, rock slider, snorkel.
-does it use the 2KD-FTV (without intercooler, 101hp version)
-i saw 2 models avail. are there 2 version? from what i've seen the hi-lo gear lever are absent in some automatics 2.5 SRs. It have the smaller gear lever for manual gearbox and some automatics (which place next to the AT gear selector), but some automatics don't have the smaller gear lever.

comment and advice will be much appreciated.

Without transfer gear is 2wd version.
Very bumpy ride.
Had a friend with sr, seems unable to solve engine lack of power, but I can't comment much on that. Maybe other experience user can comment. It's the same engine as current hilux. Only without intercooler.

Why do u need a pick up in the first place?
If u need to travel long distance, hilux sr is on in terms of gearing. Tall 5th gear good for cruising.
Older hilux, ranger, have short 5th, cruising on highway is miserable.

If don't need pick up, why not consider SUV ? Pajero for example, is more comfortable n kind to passenger.
