This thread is almost dead. But I see Ex-POHD user keeping this thread alive

AC Ryan development team is no longer capable of any good working FW. It appears they can't even fix simple problems found in previous official FW released about a month ago (A real lemon release).

Perhaps all their previous staff have left and they are now using their 'office boy' to do the programming

I know POHD big got 2 years warranty.

What FW are you using?

FW 4090 just a minor (interim) fix for some of the features that went missing in the 3582FW. Other problems still not fixed yet. It is still unstable and still hangs, though not as frequent as 3582.

They still don't know how to get it stable after more than a month, which is really worrying

I already posted before about this FW 4090 (2 weeks ago), post no. 249.

Go to Playon!HD website under 'Technical support' and read the 'sticky' thread at the top with the title "MKV file not playing information. You will find your answer there.

More and more MKV are created by the newer MKV software (which uses compressed Headers) which the POHD cannot play.

Sad to say, other Brands using Realtek chip (e.g Xtreamer) already solved the problem with their FW release, but AC Ryan as usual still blaming Realtek company instead of finding a solution

There is a workaround solution available (provided by users initially). Now AC Ryan has created a sticky thread to take the credit, haha.

Just go there and find out yourself. Too much to explain here.

That's good to hear

But don't waste too much time on remuxing your MKVs. There is news that AC Ryan is coming out with a Beta very soon to fix this problem at the FW level. So hold on for a while.

As for the audio portion, sad to say there isn't any improvements. (might not be improved with the next release on SDK3.X platform). We are working with a new platform at this moment for the audio fix. Thus this still requires some time for our developers to fully digest the codes and changes. Thus, we do hope that the community would understand our stand at this moment.

It is the same as all SDK3.X platform requires, please update your PV73100 to r3582 before proceeding to update with this firmware.

Although it does improve on playback of MKV with compressed Headers, it is still unstable as before (prone to hang while browsing. Have to hard reset). .

Someone at POHD forums posted the following problems.

1) Browsing the internal hard disk freezes the unit and I have to unplug the power and start again. This happens frequently.

2) .mkv files that were shown as invalid files now play but not to the end. Close to the end the screen pixellates and then another file starts playing. From what I can tell it's a random file that starts playing.

1st problem , I know already there since FW3582

Of particular interest to you is Problem 2. Can please provide feedback if it happens to your MKVs?

All I can say is I can understand your decision.

AC Ryan is shooting itself in the foot. They have always been using the same excuse (Realtek SDk problems etc) for delays and Bugs in the FW. It is acceptable if they finally come out with good and stable FW after giving so many excuses, but as it is they keep on releasing the same old crap.

Whereas their competitors already released the fixes way ahead of them. In fact Ac Ryan only got off their butt and 'attempted' a fix after I pointed out to them that Xtreamer already solved the problem while AC Ryan were still giving the same old excuse that this problem is SDK problem and need to refer to Realtek for solutions.

I no longer think they have capable people who knows what they are doing

Depends on which model. Since you haven't got it yet, answers based on newer (current) POHD models (1073DD C+ chipset)

1) Newer FW for newer model is supossed to have HDMI HD Audio . (I have old model so can't test or confirm). But then new FW not stable and got lots of bugs, so go figure

2) Coaxial if for regular 5.1 Audio (For those who doesn't have HDMI AVR capable of HD Audio)

3) As a reference , last month price of POHD big was less than RM500/-. For Mini maybe around RM100/- less than POHD Big, can't be sure.

News/rumours are that they will be including the new Essential GUI into the POHD as well. Based on the SDK 4. But don't quote me on that

Added on November 11, 2010, 7:09 pmIf your DVDs are not protected discs, just copy and paste the folders and files directly from your PC DVD drive to a separate folder on the internal/external Hard Disk. You can name the folder any way you want.

After that you can connect the ext HDD to the POHD and play from there. Whenever you select the folder with your DVD movie inside, the POHD will recognise it's a DVD movie and can play directly with Full Menus.

Even if it's true, will only get it at end of year.

What's you Setup 1 Video settings in your POHD setup menu? HDMI Auto or HDMI 1080i / 1080P ? If it's auto try changing to fixed resolution or vise versa, see if it helps.

DVD Menu is for displaying the DVD Menu when you are playing a DVD movie (same Menu you see when playing a DVD Disc in a DVD player). (Provided you have copied or ripped the whole DVD contents intact to your HDD).

Ok, maybe I didn't understand you correctly the first time. I thought you were talking about the DVD Menu option which appears when you press the 'Menu' button on the remote.

The DVD option that you were referring to in the Browser screen is for you to connect an external USB DVD drive to play DVD discs. You have to select that option instead of USB option when you want to play a DVD disc.

But to tell you the truth not all Optical drives are supported and you have to try your luck. Sometimes certain FW also cause some problems with the drive like not being able to eject etc.

As for your HDMI problem, Why not just try the other modes as well 1080i/720P etc. since you are already at it. After that try connecting to another HDMI port on your TV. You might also want to try adjusting your TV options or maybe even try a differnt FW version.

Not special DVD players. Don't connect a DVD player to the AC Ryan USB port.

It's meant for those computer External DVD USB drives, the kind you plug in your laptop using USB power.

I think the AC Ryan DVR can only record through composite cable (the Yellow/white/red cable). Tell your friend don't get his hopes high . Ask him to check with the seller first.

POHD big can detect all four drive using USB.

Oct'09 still got 1 year warranty left mah. Since got Boxbuilder sticker just send back to them (Boxbuilder) in Shah Alam , I am sure they can fix it for you, no need receipt.
