thanks for ur info dude.
bad sectors really irritating. always make my pc hang hang  vmad.gif

which hdd is now a good in quality and speed? WD Black or Samsung Spinpoint F3?
I'm thinking of buying new hdd for my OS to breath in.

For me, i still feel it's risky to go for Samsung since it just penetrated the market and got popular just recently. WD on the other hard have been so long surviving in this highly competitive industry. I own WD Black and WD RE3 HDD.

Why is buffalo also expensive. Nothing to do with the flood what.

Buffalo does not manufacture its own HDD. It only manufactures the ext casing for the HDD. You can try to open them (will void warranty) and you'll find that they're using HDD manufactured by other company. I've used 2 of them (2.5inch version) in the past, 1 of them is using a WD 320GB (bought in 2009), another one is a Samsung 500GB (bought in 2010).

Therefore if other HDD manufacturers are affected, Buffalo also has to increase the price.

I still have several working seagate hdd, none of it is a barracuda.

you're probably too young to remember IBM deathstar.

IBM desktar was famous for the "click of death". Quite similar to what happened to Seagate 7200.11 actually. Suddenly BIOS cannot detect. That was during Pentium 3 Coppermine days. SO many years already shocking.gif
