If you change resolution in a game, or even on desktop normally, from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 or 1366x768, will it be blurry or unusual?
Because those resolutions are also used on monitors of the same dimensions. So I wonder if it will distort quality if you use a lower resolution. In game or in normal use with video, photo etc.

OIC so native resolution should be the only resolution to use.
OK here's an example: in a game, from 1600x900 I go to 1440x900 or 1366x768. This is on a external monitor of 1600x900. Although 1440x900 is not the same aspect ratio, when I switch to it I don't see any blurring.

Looks like they are gonna put a GT435/445 into the new Studio/XPS 15/17.
Isn't Nvidia Optimus messed up, or is it fixed?
Neither 435 nor 445 can/will be significantly better than a 24W TDP Radeon 5830, so this is a disappointment from Dell.

They changed the 1645's price quite drastically and quite suddenly too. But from it's RM4899 to RM3999 with 8GB to 6GB, I don't see it going very much lower. Perhaps RM3799/3899, in the next 1-3 months.
1647, on the other hand, is unbalanced - charging too much for i5-460/520/540 and 565v relative to its specs and the 1645 of course. A Studio would have i7 + 6GB, but then it doesn't have Full HD or 565v. Yes, RM2999 would be good.
They won't reduce the 1645/47 price by too much. It would cost a lot of money, and secondly they still want the new XPS to be sold (which should be quite expensive not only because it is brand new and highly desired, but also because of its specs. The Studio XPS is almost going to be the same price as the Studios. But when a product comes to the end of its marketing period or life, it must be sold. Remember the old XPS M1330 (which went for huge discounts before it was discontinued).
Dell was pretty smart. Keeping the XPS fans/future buyers hungry, by seeding a tiny rumour, but refusing to leak any specific info. They generated so much interest there is going to be a surplus in demand globally. There was already a massive following of Studio XPS 13/15/16, despite their "heat issues", and they still managed to sell that (one of the most popular laptops besides Alienware, Asus G series, Vaio) successfully, and continuously, for so long.
I think even the starting XPS 15 (with i5-460/520/540/560/580) will be very very expensive - the i5-450 SXPS 16 was RM4099 just a short while ago.

WTF is Dell up to? XPS will be sold at the end of this month, and still they refuse to tell us any price or specification info.
Dying of curiosity here.

They are just trying to get you to buy it.
I don't sincerely believe they face a "shortage". If anything, there are a few extras lying around. Besides, they are shipping this over, and it's custom assembled - not like it's a limited store of laptops.
Also, they are constantly taking it down, putting it up... and refusing to tell us anything.

Good news, or bad - for future users only:
The actual Windows OS CD is now available, at the steep price of RM10.
How does Dell reward its loyal, consistent customers? By putting a price on the media which contains the licensed software which we have paid for.
Apparently the same thing has been going on in other countries, Australia and the UK for example. They can buy it at 5 pounds in Britain, or a few dollars in Australia.
Now, what did we hear previously? No more CDs? They were just thinking of another way to get more $ out of us. In many countries still, people could just request for the CD and it would come in a couple days. Not Malaysia though. No sir.
Added on October 7, 2010, 6:49 pmOn the graphics, I think Dell is serious about a 2GB card.
Will this be a GT460M? It could be 1.5-2GB, but this card is way too expensive and hot for XPS. Or maybe not (think RM6500-7000 XPS).
What about 2GB GT445M. I don't think they will include SLI though. But they can support GDDR5. I think GT360M is also a possibility.

GTA IV is 2008, I'm not sure if it's fully workable with Windows 7. But apparently they have a patch for it.
I have problems with old games of course, they won't launch after install.

WTH, GT425M only? It's WORSE than 5730!
So what, it's going to be 2GB GT425M card? Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1GB 5730 >>> 2GB GT425M right?
And it will cost so much. That European price is already ~RM4100. Expect starting price here to be maybe more than RM4599.
This is bad. It clearly says Studio XPS 15 but it has no mention of USB 3.0 and yeah, the whole thing about the DDR2.
We know Dell doesn't make that many prebuilt. But the problem is the orders/selling should start THIS MONTH. It's TOO late to change the GT425M to something better.
And RM4599 model has the i5-460M! Brilliant.
Added on October 8, 2010, 8:48 amMaybe XPS 15 can be upgraded to GT445. It seems XPS 17 has more USB ports.
Did anyone notice the weight is the same? How likely is this. But good to have some tangible info finally.

Ok, that's something positive at least lee what. But benchmarks are the numbers. Frames per second of gaming could indicate the performance too, depending on the game. Specs wise Idk cos I am a noob at these things. But I think 2GB does not give much advantage anyway. Design? Have not seen it. Where? Added on October 8, 2010, 5:13 pmOK I don't think it's just me - I can't customise/choose options/configure the Studio XPS on Dell's website, with Firefox or Chrome. Guys, the XPS 16, does the backlit keyboard setting stay on whichever you set it (Off, Medium, Max) when you turn off and back on again?
Does Dell accept returns/refunds?
Thanks.

RM500 discount for Alienware M15x, RM300 discount for M11x. They also pulled i7 quad cores from other countries' Studio XPS.
Doh I really want an Alienware but it's 4+ kg.
What is Dell playing at now?

Wadelucy:
I believe the specs are already known, even if they had errors and are not official. Whether or not the GT 445M will be available for the XPS 15 is yet to be known. i5-460M as starting processor, GT 425M as starting GPU. Number of USB ports unknown, should be 1x 3.0 and at least 1x 2.0. Full HD.
Experts, would you recommend HD 5730 over GT 445M? I know 445 is more powerful but 5730 has a handy 24/26W TDP. Concerned because Nvidia GPUs tend to be seriously hot (my "24W" GT240M ran at a cool 95C). I know 425 is for the moment inferior anyways. Design of new XPS may have the same screen/vent issue, but then it has USB 3.0 for future use.

The products are sometimes questionable.
But the tech support is very efficient.
Not to mention they hardly question you - as if they expect it.

Anybody knows if the Front Side Bus Speed (2.5/4.0 GT/s) matters?
Because i5-450 and i5-580 have the highest (4.0) while all other i5s and i7s have the same (2.5).
I heard cache size is important too, but the i5s have only 3mb compared to last generation high T series with 6mb.
Guys get ready 21/22 October new XPS. Hopefully XPS 15 with GT445M and at RM4000+
