Yours worked for x64?
What I did:
1. Unzipped i8kfan binary 2. bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS and restarted 3. enabled Test Mode and restarted 4. signed driver fanio.sys 5. ran faninst.exe - running status 6. ran i8kfan from folder > blackout and noise

When I launch the i8kfangui the screen becomes blanketed in a moving grey shade of dots and waves... then it goes black. The first time there was beeping right away, the second time there was beeping after it went dark.
I want to use fan control for my laptop, I desperately need it, but can't get this to work, and nothing else has worked so far.

I had a battery problem too, it would not charge sometimes. But at the same time I had mouse and keyboard problems. After 1 MB change (plus keyboard and top panel change), no more problems at all.
If only I could get the i8 fan control to work...

Dell doesn't sell it (this model/version) with Free Dos, I think. All come with Windows, whether you buy from shops or online.
My battery is standard. It's the laptop MB problem, probably.
Screen flickering, I use low brightness (not dark, but as low as I can get it without troubling the power settings too much).
Added on May 29, 2011, 9:30 amOh what I mean is I don't notice prolonged screen flickering, but I have seen it like a few times - flashing that is very infrequent.
Added on May 29, 2011, 9:31 amErm, ppl still talked about buying this? You can't do so online anymore.
XPS 15z looks good, MUCH improved over old one (slot load!) but not cheap. Anyways it uses the old GPU still.

Concerning Speakers!
I'm getting bad sound quality. Like the screeching, scratchy sound. Happens when volume is up a bit.
It's not loud or anything. I put it at the minimum audible volume (quite high up on the bar) for listening to music, watching videos etc. Lately I noticed a lot of videos (online or offline) and (very few) songs will cause screeching/poor sound.
Speakers broken or what?

Do not pay attention to sides, and since it doesn't happen 100% of the time I cannot really test it (or I'm just not bothered to).
I will try your suggestion. By "delete file" you mean deleting the driver file or using a delete file option in Device Manager?
Thanks!

I just realised the sound output on my laptop is absolutely shit.
How do I tune the settings for better output? Any comments would be appreciated.
Also, how come if I plug headphones in, and I tick "Optimise for headphones" the sound becomes really bad? This is just a curiosity question, not looking for a solution.
Thanks.

I thought adjusting Creative/sound settings could improve/optimise the speaker output... or it might already be at its optimal configuration.

Bad Company 2 runs good on full HD. Unfortunately the game is quite brief.

QUOTE(faizpsp89 @ Nov 1 2011, 10:36 PM) I plan on buying Battlefield 3 ..Will it run good on XPS1647? Bad Company 2 was really good at full HD... shouldn't be a problem for Battlefield 3. On another note, lagging like hell on my system received March 2011... every few seconds, Firefox will freeze and you have to wait like half a minute for it to unfreeze. Other applications (PDF, video, Chrome, Windows Explorer) lag like mad. And a lot of Windows Explorer hangs. Will a fresh install fix the problem eh?

Processor fan is insane. But oh well, the laptop looks nice with a good screen and very few laptops at this price have a backlit keyboard.
I guess the next laptop I have to get is an Alienware. Unless Dell improves their XPS line. Once you get used to Dell's customer service you would not want to suffer with something like Lenovo. And unless you have experience with Asus/HP customer service (since both brands produce laptops whose aesthetics compare to the Studio XPS/XPS)... Dell is surely convenient, if expensive.

Fan is active almost all the time, and speeds up very often - especially during the web browser hangs etc. What do you have to do to get a fast laptop nowadays... I thought technology went forward.

Good thing I went for i5. Typing is ok. Screen area does get really hot. Also keyboard fails a lot. First they replaced motherboard/keyboard, then they told me to do a system restore. Wonder what they will say now.
