Hello All

My baby AKG K701 is broken so I have an excuse to get a new headphone and I like to try something other than AKG although I love them so much.

I listen to classical, symphonies, quartets etc, so sound stage and quality are very important. I like a neutral sound, that produces sound as they should with no bias to bass or treble etc.

I have my eye on the ATH-W1000X but appreciate that expensive headphone does not mean it will suit my taste. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Many thanks.

PS - I posted something in the AT thread, but thought I might get some other ideas here as that thread is dedicated to AT.

Budget : 1000-2000 RINGGIT.
I have a laptop,an iPod touch & a phone.
Usage would be just for music & movies.
types of music : r&b , acoustic , blues , jazz , rap , country , alternative.
personal requirements : closed , noise canceling , use for listening to personal song recordings.

I've looked at the Sennheiser PXC 360 so far but I have no hands on experience with other brands. What are your thoughts? smile.gif

The AT has a very different sound signature to your beloved K701. Why don't you go with the new Q701 instead hmm.gif

Yes , I know it deteriorates sound quality . That's why I'm not gonna use it only if I have to. There are cables for the PXC 360 right? hahahah

if ure going for gaming... then i think its ok... but recommending something from a gaming manufacturer for a musical headphones is not something any of us would recommend...

noise isolating the best bet for u is using iems (in - ear - monitors) the one where u have to poke into ur ears lol...

the best isolation for iem so far i got from fischer audio DBA -02 but its not ur cup of tea i guess...
bassy iems u can look for senn CX300, fischer audio eterna (bassy goodness), soundmagic PL21 (i think its should be bassy enough)

Hi guys,

not too sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm looking for jogging, behind-the-head earphones. Wonder if you guys have any recommendations?

Budgets running from 100-200, but will definitely consider anything you guys reco as long as its worth it. Cheers!

Forgot to mention that I'm already wearing glasses...  sweat.gif

did a bit of research and it what do you guys think about this one:
Sony MDR-G75LW (cord is retractable)
Sennheiser PMX70
Koss KSC75 (but not sure about clipon as will the ears start to hurt? Tried a clipon once and only lasted 15 mins for me.)
*

i prefer those noise-cancelling in-ear earphone and of course comfort around 150 my budget
*
if you really need the noise cancelling function, maybe some sony earpiece is still available in this market???
but the in-ear earphone normally do give u a good isolation as well~

Hippo White, Hippo Boom
Brainwavz M1, Proalpha
Superlux earpieces,
denon C260
Sennheiser CX200

Haven't tried one. But looking at the design I'd say it'll be a bit difficult for some to get a good fit(I know I've read some that have the problem). It is a triple driver though, and I don't think it'll be a slouch when it comes to sound quality. Some use them as a reference to test out audio rigs. Some do complain a little but that may be because it's not the sound they like or they're very very critical. I think users of Triple.Fi 10 should give a comment.

I'd say try them out. It is a rather large investment. If you can't find the opportunity to try them out, I do recommend the other cheaper options, as they fit your need for bass.

Thinking of letting go of mine. Well in a few months though.
But it is modded and I'm not sure the warranty is still available.  tongue.gif

Oh, and it is compatible. it has a 6.3mm adapter. It is attached to the 3.5mm plug when shipped.
And about the sound. I find out that at times in certain music it does reveal some extra details. Details I've dismissed as being recording noise or artifacts before. They are just a tad sibilant, and bass can be felt when fed with the right music and power. Bass is quick, separation is good, though can be a bit sibilant. I've modded mine to have a slightly better bass slam and a pinch more impact, so I don't have to turn up the volume as much so the sibilance can be controlled. I've read reviews about these lower-end grados having a narrow sound stage. I was expecting the worst, but it isn't that bad really. My favourite thing about the SR60i is how it presents the electric guitar. Totally full of energy, the distortion is done very nicely, good weight. Muse's Newborn guitar entry hasn't sound so satisfying.

A recommended option for a starter headphone.  thumbup.gif

Thanks for the recommendations. I don't think Sen is right for me as the sound is a bit dark.

One reason I am a bit reluctant on the 701 now is because I read current production of the cans is different from the first generation, which is the one I've got. The sound changed for the current gen.

Also, other than some tweaks and cable, is there anything else to the q 701? I read a few comparisons and some suggested that the extra money is not worth it.

Many thanks.

Jaben Malaysia is a great place. In fact, try out the SR60 first, see if you like the sound. Some people don't like the Grado sound. Also test its comfort level. I'm letting go of mine because they're quite uncomfortable after a few hours. If you don't mind them to be uncomfortable, or you find them quite alright, then good for you. thumbup.gif They have a large array of other headphones to try out as well. You can also try out the others available.
