joey87 : you are right. This iPhone4 is one of the best smartphones - except for Steve Jobs, I won't say is the best. In any smartphone, If I find that the negative aspects of it is a crucial feature to me, I will not buy it. There are other choices.
It is not as if there is only one smartphone in the world.Sometimes I see how some chaps argue over it is puzzling to me. Simply put, you have doubts and you don't like it , just forget about it -lah. No need to criticize others for supporting it

hmmmmm if Samsung heard tat, there goes the additional Retina screens thy are helping apple manufacture..

I guess he could be probably hinting to the recent Samsung Galaxy S ( Captivate in USA ) launch few days ago. It met with very good response. The reviews were very good with excellent graphic gaming performance and browser proven to be 2-3 second faster than iphone4. It was a " slap" in Apple's face when the few reviews and test comparisons came up about 2 days ago.

Giovanni : your conspiracy theory won't be a theory. I am pretty sure Apple will upgrade its hardware as Steve repeatedly say " it is the best smartphone in the world". From a biz point , Steve will never acknowledge is a hardware issue now, imagine the backlash and unhappiness from the 1.7 million users.
Apple will discretely improved it ; and 2 months later to have an improved version out is likely. They might not not even announced any improvements made. Over the next 2 months , all the furor will subside

And during q n a time, one bold owner challenge Steve that he was unable to have the same drop calls to which Steve gave a unsatisfactory answer

Agree with u also with this bro. Holding my old 3G side by side with the iPhone 4 is like heaven and hell...LOL..

Yes just the screen display alone could convert any doubters to buy the iphone4. Though I am not a big fan of the earlier iPhones I was very impressed when I got to watch a video created by iMovie.

is there a Sept list?
AFAIK, Steve listed out 5 for 1st wave, and another 18 (now is just 17 cos S. Korea gov. hasn't approved it) for 2nd wave...
3rd & 4th wave didn't have any list...
*
The sept list is unofficial. I came across it in one of the USA apple forums, don't know how accurate. Malaysia not in the list. I will try to trace back, quite susah since I visit so many forums all round the web. A luxury a retiree old chap like me who now can afford is time. Anyway do not be disheartened, later could be better as the web abound with rumor which I believe is true apple quietly fixing the proximity sensor and antenna issue. By the time we malaysians get it, it could be better product than the initial release.

Those who cannot wait, nearest option is end July in Spore. Wait for official news, I could offer help to get for those interested. Just charge you small fee to cover my travel costs, I don't need make any money. My place only 1.5 hours to spore and I go over regularly twice a month.

i doubt Singtel, M1 & StarHub will easily sell an iPhone4 to you without contract... where's the benefit to them?

online store FTW!

You are right. Especially when it is such a hot item. Spore telcos are more biz minded and more profit minded compared to our local telcos

The media really, really, really loves to write about Apple and the iPhone these days. It reminds me of Google in 2004, when the media fell in love with the concept of search.

Besides the antennae story, which I find hopelessly over reported, the latest iPhone rhapsody has been how many iPhone 4s Apple has sold - apparently, 3 million as of last Friday. Friday was July 16th. The iPhone 4 launched on June 24, so that'd be 23 days to reach the 3 million mark.

3 million phones in 23 days - that's a pretty strong clip, the fastest sales of an Apple phone to date, Mashable reports. If I do the math, that's more than 130,000 phones a day.

But did anyone in the press notice Google's little announcement, the day before Apple launched its iPhone 4? This one? The one where Google said, and I quote:

"Every day 160,000 Android-powered devices are activated -- that’s nearly two devices every second."

Yep, that'd be 30K MORE phones a day than Apple. And my guess is that Android's pace is accelerating, while the iPhone 4 is probably sliding downward, given how many folks bought it at launch (Mashable reports that 1.7 million were sold in first three days, so 1.3 million the next 20 days). In fact, if you do THAT math, and divide 1.3 million by 20 days, you get 65,000 iPhone 4s sold each day, which is nearly 100,000 less, PER DAY, than Android phones.

Is that story anywhere in the press? Not that I see.

As far as I can tell, Android-based phones will far outnumber any other smart phone by year's end. Apple, meet your new Windows. It's name is Android.

The last 5 years changing, upgrading and testing new smart phones ( regardless of make) has become an expensive hobby for me. My next target will be this iphone4 though till now I never had a good impression of the earlier iPhones series

Extremely competitive pricing. At such prices, it'd appear to be more affordable. I believe MSIAN prices should be similar range.

It is free, youngkies. But both of you need to have i4. biggrin.gif

From HK.

http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/talk/?prod_id=3598&tid=36282

VERY GRAND. Click to look at the overwhelming crowds. Ahhh envious! tongue.gif

HK purchasing power is greater than Msia. Just compare :

An executive in Msia earns average RM 3000 to RM 4000 ; the iphone will cost him, say RM 2500 : this is about 70 % and above his monthly salary

In HK, an executive similar job earns HK$ 25000 to HK$30000 ; the iphone, say HK$4800 is only about 15 % his salary
My last job when I see the salaries we have to pay our HK staffs, my heart cringes ( of course we have to accept HK costs of living is very high, about 8-10X higher than Msia )

Similarly in Spore an executive same job will earn S$ 3000 to S$ 4000, the iPhone costs S$1288 , ie only less than 50 % his salary

So just comparing diollar for dollar, buying power in Msia is weaker, so is natural we will always be behind HK and Spore in any new launches ; Msia is small mini market to Apple

Based on several reports I have read at hardwarezone.com.sg - the new iPhone4 users in Spore reported doing the death grip tests, there were some minor drops in signal bars but all said not serious - no drop calls. Generally all of them were happy with the reception

When you cut your sim using that sim cutter, does it affected the chip area?
Or the sim cutter ngam-ngam cut the sim precisely?
Does the sim fit nicely into the simtray?Or did it have some space?

Sorry for continuous questions..  biggrin.gif
*
I cut the simcard myself. To fit the slot I have to trim off slightly ( about 0.2 to 0.3 mm) the gold edges at both top and bottom. It is important not to cut into the right edges, just cut near its edge. The left hand side will have more free space , so is not an issue. So far I have cut 4 cards , mine a DIGI and Celcom and for my friend ( who was too scared to cut ) 1 Maxis hotlink and another Celcom. So far I'd say the Celcom has the best performance at least in my place ( batu pahat ) and when I was on the bus on the highway to KL, it was also very good and I did not have much signal drop issues unlike the earlier Digi. The micro-sim was for my iPAD

It is suffice to cut with normal cutter?
Or do I have to buy some very sharp carving knife? (I saw some dude online using carving knife)

I use a RM3 sharp scissors to do it. I find the guy using a cleaver as crazy and just want to sensationalize it

Expectations are high because during the keynote address Steve described the new antenna as " a brilliant piece of engineering" and repeatedly says it is the best smartphone in the world. So everyone expects a 101 % perfect product. And it was the first time Steve Jobs at same time introduced a casing ( the bumper ) ; many critics including me feels that Steve Jobs are aware of the antenna grip issue and the bumper was an immediate solution. Perhaps he underestimate the buyer's reaction towards the antenna issue. I do not find this antenna is a non-issue; Steve Jobs brings it back upon himself if he is not so boastful then during the presentation.

Hi

Got my iphone 4 yesterday, cut my sim card accordingly, however, the phone cant detact my 012 sim card at all. But it detacts the 019 pre paid card instead.

Would like to know, iphone 4 does not work with 012 or what should i do in order for the card to work? Please anyone can advice?

Thanks alot smile.gif

Most probably you cut the Maxis card poorly ; make sure the right hand or left hand vertical gold edges are not cut; the top and bottom gold edges you can trim off slightly , it will not affect. Maxis is the first Msian telco to offer iP4 so sure it will wotrk with the iP4. Infact all the Mal;aysian telco cards will work with it
