Not sure how you mean it?

1) For example a game is usually sold at 50usd but somehow is discounted at 10usd.
If you buy it at 50usd the percentage of blue coins you get is based on 50usd.
If you buy it at 10usd, the percentage of blue coins you get is based on 10usd (so no getting the 50usd blue coins percentage for a 10usd buy)

2) If you meant that if a game is usually sold at 50usd but is now at 10usd and you have 15 usd blue coins equivalent, you can use your blue coins to buy it at 10usd without issue yes

One restriction I know about blue coins is that if you pay with them, you have to have the whole amount available in blue coins.
So you can't use blue coins to top off a cash purchase or use cash to top off a blue coins purchase

Still better than nothing really, I buy usually without thinking about the blue coins systems and it does sometimes let me buy small or heavily discounted games.
After checking you get 5% of the amount you buy on the site added to your Blue Coins.
And you get a bit more Blue Coins when rating, reviewing game etc.

Some games also have some special offers on Blue Coins (like Uprising had when i bought it), pre-orders also have sometimes etc.
*
Oh ok, that explains it.

I initially thought that blue coins were sort of like credit card points or something.

Finally bought something from Gamers Gate (ie. Gothic Bundle)

Unlike Steam, Gamers Gate includes Gothic III Forsaken Gods.

However, Gamers Gate's Gothic bundle is more expensive than Steam by USD5.01.

Maybe that's the cost of forsaken Gods?

Yes, it probably is.

But you can't buy Gothic 3: The Forsaken Gods from Steam at all.

Shogun: Total War series for USD7.46 is a bit steep considering that the game is really really old.

Probably get Capcom games from here (ie. Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet series), getting annoyed with region restriction from Steam (also my HDD allocated specifically for Steam is running out of space)

Downloading Gothic 4 from Gamers Gate at the moment.

Slightly faster than Steam, a lot faster than GOG.

Where is Gamers Gate saving my download to?

Err... it depends on the directory you've entered. Can I confirm if you're downloading the downloader client or the game itself? GamersGate is slightly confusing in the sense that the first download you initiated is actually to download the downloader client.

Let's say you want the game file to be downloaded into E: directory, what you need to do is to move the downloader client into the E: directory & run it. The client will then download the game files into a GamersGate Temporary Folder in E: directory. Once the game files download is completed, you can move BOTH the downloader client (it's also an authentication client to get the installation started) & the GamersGate Temporary folder to the computer / directory you want the game to be installed. This is useful if you download the game in your office, copy them into your external HDD & bring 'em back for installation.

I'll recommend that you change the folder name into something else for each game & burn a copy for future installation. Let's say you bought 5 GamersGate game, download the first game, install it, rename the temporary folder as Game A & save it somewhere else. Repeat the same for the subsequent 4 games.
*
Currently the downloader client is in My Documents\Downloads

The game is being downloaded there.

Can I move the game once it's done from there to someother drive?

Yup, you can. Just move both the downloader client & the GamersGate Temporary Folder to the drive you wanted the game to be installed on once the download is completed.

Cool, thanks.

Will move Gothic 4 once its done.

Gonna download the rest as soon as possible.

Remember to rename the GamersGate Temporary Folder once the download is completed for each game. You wouldn't want to have a few games residing in the same folder, do you? unsure.gif

Cool, thanks for that advice.

Hopefully, it'll be done by the time I get home.

8.40gb for Gothic 4 is gonna take awhile.

My take on Gamers Gate:

Pros:
1. Easy to download and install
2. DRM less intrusive compared to Steam and Stardock Impulse
3. Website is better laid out compared to Stardock Impulse
4. Region restriction not as rigid as Steam.
5. Some games are available in Gamer's Gate and are not available in Steam (my case was Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods).

Cons:
1. Backup of games takes some getting used to
2. Speed of download fluctuates a lot (probably due to Streamyx)
3. No Steamwork games (not fair to Gamers Gate though)
4. No automatic update / patch for games

Very few cons compared to pros (and most generally not Gamers Gate's fault)

In my opinion, some games are better to get from Gamers Gate (especially those without DLCs). Such as, Dead Rising 2, Gothic series and etc.

I am targeting to get Risen from Gamer's Gate next.

My Steam list is far too bloated now.

Me too. Unfortunately, my issue is that all my Total War series are on Steam.

Also, I thought Shogun 2 Total War is using Steamworks as well.

Cool, then I'll get it from Gamer's Gate.

Valve is quite stringent in where we get their games from.

I can always use the extra blue coins to get other games.

Any updates?

I am quite skeptical to buy Steamwork games from other Digital Distributors since Valve is quite sticky with where we get our Steamwork games from.

Thanks, I might be getting it from Gamer's Gate too.

Unless I get a decent discount for being a loyal customer of Creative Assembly.

GamersGate says Steam is "peaking," losing customers
QUOTE
IndustryGamers has posted an interview with Theo Burgquist, CEO of GamersGate, who has some strong feelings about the future of digital PC game sales and the role his company will play in it. After all, they describe themselves as "the leading digital distribution platform for PC and Mac games." Theo says that, while Steam may be #1 now, GamersGate has the momentum to steal away market share in the near future:

To be honest, we’re not afraid of Steam. We think they are peaking now while the market is still very hardcore. In fact, we know from the feedback we receive from customers, one of the reasons we have such great growth is because many gamers out there don’t like Steam and see Gamersgate as a better alternative. Once digital sales are superior to physical sales, we believe Steam will have a harder time remaining #1. We’ve led the way with many things like weekend offers, promotion programs, holiday sales, and more and they’ve followed. We believe our focus on premium customer support, a client-free experience, a robust reward program, and a DRM-friendly policy will appeal to the masses once they decide to go digital.

We don’t have any market breakdown of the overall numbers. Some people say Steam has 50% of the market, some say 80%, but we don’t know. What we do know is that Steam’s marketshare will shrink in the future and that GamersGate is well positioned as one of the digital distrubtion [sic] platforms that has strong momentum to gain marketshare.

Spotted on VG247.
