The Story
I think some familiar faces here might know me looking at my nick in this forum. I started playing WOW during BC time when i was 24 yrs old. I started off at Alliance and my first character was a Human Mage. Then i rerolled a NE Hunter in Frostmourne and had been Pvp-ing for like 1 year after i hit 70. At that time I was a pure noob who dont even know what a "raid" is. I dont know what Kara and ZA is (not gonna elaborate more since i know you wont be interested).

My real journey in WOW started when i decided to try out Horde by creating a new rogue in Barthilas server. Since then I was invited into a guild and i was taught to raid and do pve progression. My history? Not too glorious. Just cleared Kara, Za, Mag`s Lair, Gruul`s Lair, MH and 5/9 Bt on my rogue before WOTLK was launched. Then, I was promoted to an officer rank in that guild during our progression towards WOTLK.

When WOTLK came out i decided to play a pally instead of a rogue cos, you know, not many ppl can stick to one char for too long tongue.gif . My pally healed thru Naxx and Ulduar when we cleared them. and I switched to tanking from TOTC onwards. I remained an officer/raid leader in that guild for almost a year. I enjoyed doing pally tanking that time and to be honest, i got addicted to the game becos pally tanking was quite imba that time, even today. After that I joined a new guild called Conclave when the guild I had been staying in for close to 1.5 years disbanded (GM quitting).

Life in Conclave was good and I got promoted rapidly to be an officer, thn to Guild Master of the guild. Well, maybe i was a bad omen. Conclave disbanded after that cos most officers got too tired of doing raid leading.

When that happened, it did came across my mind that quitting WOW might be the best solution for me but it then i decided to stay on for a few bit cos of my real life frens who are still playing. I decided to reroll a priest (so that my pally could remain in Conclave) and we joined a good guild called Fox River (Barthilas). There I took a short 1 month time to level my priest from lvl 1 - 80 and started hitting 6.1k gs after starting my raid as disc priest with my fellow guildies. Happy times passed real quick. In 2 months time (Mar-May 2010) we cleared ICC 25 (it took quite a bit of time for us to down LK 25 smile.gif ). Fox River is 8/12 HM now and yes they are still doing Hm progression. As for me, I`d already quitted the game last week.

Reasons for quitting
- Game content is too boring. Its all repititive. I still prefer the type of raid contents during BC time.
- Gearing up was too easy now. My priest was able to hit from lvl 1 to a 6.1k gs lvl 80 in exactly 1 month time? Crap.
- This game is for kids now. Not adult gaming anymore. Chk out how many noobs are there in game these days.
- Internet line in Malaysia (or particularly in my area) cant support WOW effects and raid anymore. Trust me it isnt graphical lag. Its the Streamyx line thats not steady.
- Too tired of all the commitments I had to put in for raids that went on for like 2 years.
- Too tired of wipefest and ragequits and DCs

What I`ve earned and learned these 3 years in game and off game?
- Guild management skills [ingame]
- Politics [ingame]
- Golds [ingame]
- Teamwork [ingame]
- Patience [ingame]
- Guildies who`ll forget you after you leave guild [ingame]
- Money - NOTHING [reallife]
- Career still the same [reallife]
- No house [reallife]
- Most of my time spent in front of my pc at home [reallife]
- Less time for family and friends [reallife]
- Unhealthy dietrary and less exercise [reallife]

etc

Well, I`ve made my decision and to be honest, I`m glad that I made it now that my life is back to normal now. I could focus on my work and I could finally spend a lot of time doing things I love to do etc. I do play dota/HON casually sometimes when I`m free. But 1 thing for sure I dont have to stick to my monitor all night for all the wipefests etc. smile.gif

What about you? Players who`d played this game for at least 2 yrs now? Did quitting wow came across your mind b4? Do all my reasons above sounds familiar to you?

Pls dont misunderstand. I`m not trying to boikott any Wow gamers or talk bad about WOW..I still love WOW and this game was the best game i ever played. I`m just trying to enlighten you guys that there are certain things that you need to manage in life so that you dont go overboard, even in WOW. Sorry for the long post lol. Cheers

yeaps its bad really when u gotta sit down and play this game for 4 hours at least even if you dun want to. Its the only online game that needs commitment i guess? . PPl actually gotta rush like hell aft work at 5.30 just to make sure he can reach home by 7pm for raid...they even can skip dinner in order to fill the 25 man slot for raids etc. What a life, and a life which i dun wanna live in anymore..lol

Seems like working both sides just that for the other work you have to pay for it.

it depends on how you treat the game, tbh

any game could be addictive: gimme a card game like mtg (16 june... YEAH!!! I LOVE STEAM!!!) and you can see how i sit and stare mindlessly onto the monitor; even now i have 2 mtg variants running on mah 2nd hand lappy for upkeep

let's take SC2 for example: can it be a burden instead of a form of entertainment say, in the future when TMNut decides to feed their wires to the fish again... mr fujkenasai, you might be going the 'uuuuuurrrghhh... screw TM, screw TM, screw TM...' phase as many local WoW players.

to a certain point, the game an extension of their current social life (except the custom map call DoTA... settling outside is not socializing... ) to have a chat about almost... anything with least concern (until you found out that the 'toon' you chat with is actually ur lil' brother...). see how me and jasi keep trolling and flaming each other for no good reason??

Thats true too, but for SC2 you do not need to organize a time to get togather, nor pay every week for it. Where as a game only last 15 min you can always stop after a game. Where as for WoW you cant stop in the middle of a raid, nor can you go and raid alone.

I`d agree with both of u ..yes it really depends on how u manage ur time..but all i could say is..WOW requires a lot of time and commitment as compared to SC 2 or even dota/HON...in my daily life now..i know i only can choose between WOW and other activities...and i`ve decided to quit WOW..24 hours isnt enuf if u wanna enjoy your real/normal life and play WOW together really..

both of them required a certain degree of commitments: unlike the old days where your opponents were all brainless AI drones, you are commited yourself to a certain degree in the game since thru the game with your opponent on the other end.

what difference between the 2 are the commitment's duration, you require to have a longer period for *any* MMO than any strategy games; it's like comparing ol' skool table top D&D with fast paced card game like mtg

everything has a beginning and ends sooner or later... just like arthas father said to him in the end, after the ICC lich king kill, 'At long last. No king rules forever, my son...'

actually all online games require commitment.

ragnorok, maple...WoW..all that needs u to level up...but of course..the first 2 doesn't require u too rush home just to play i guess?

really bad for health.

i play 1 hour can feel my hands numb already.

let alone 4 hours. doh.gif
