Now i'm a bit interested. Being a wannabe-musician(one that is vely crap), i find pushing yellow, red, green, blue buttons on guitar shaped controllers is a joke. Now finally, you can actually use a real guitar(of sorts).

Is there adaptor that can plug in a real guitar or real keyboard/digital piano??

If yes, I'M SOLD!

Actually, you can use a real guitar for rock band 3

Introducing the Revolutionary Rock Band 3 Squier® by Fender® Stratocaster® Guitar Controller

New Guitar/Controller Hybrid Breaks Down Barriers Between Simulation and Real Life Music Skills within Rock Band™3 Pro Mode

Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games, a part of Viacom's MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), in partnership with Fender Musical Instruments Corp., has announced a new guitar/controller hybrid for the highly anticipated Rock BandTM3. The Rock Band 3 Squier® by Fender Stratocaster® Guitar Controller is a fully functional, full-sized, electric guitar with strings that also functions as a game controller for Rock Band 3's innovative Pro mode gameplay. Its revolutionary technology will allow gamers and music lovers around the world to experience the immediate joy of playing guitar through the fun and accessibility of Rock Band gameplay.

"This groundbreaking partnership with Fender ushers in a new era in rhythm gaming, providing countless music fans their first opportunity to enter the world of real musicianship," said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and Co-Founder, Harmonix Music Systems. "The Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster will allow players to enjoy the addictive fun of the rhythm gaming with Rock Band while simultaneously developing skills on a real musical instrument, helping to close the gap between simulation and reality."

Expected to be shown for the first time at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), June 15-17, Rock Band 3 will feature a new stratum of gameplay known as Rock Band Pro, which incorporates more realistic instrumental performance information into gameplay, including string and fret information on guitar, differentiated cymbal and tom notation for drums, and full pitch-accurate gameplay for keyboards.

Rock Band Pro is available in all modes of Rock Band 3, and features tutorials and a variety of difficulties, including Easy, meaning that real instrument performance is within reach of any player, no matter their experience level.

"We've heard countless stories about how Rock Band has inspired folks to pick up and learn to play guitar," said Mark Van Vleet, SVP of Business Affairs at Fender. "This instrument and the Rock Band Pro gameplay contained within Rock Band 3 are uniquely poised to open the doors of musical enjoyment for music lovers around the world. Quite simply put, this is a huge step forward and a momentous occasion in guitar instruction and music entertainment."

The Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster uses technology built into the neck and fingerboard of the guitar to track finger positions in real time. The guitar also transmits strum data for the six individual strings, allowing the game to give feedback to players as they make the leap from rhythm game rocking to real world skills. Players can unplug from the fun of Rock Band 3 and plug directly into an amp to rock for real.

Additional information on the Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster will be released over the coming months.

here's what it looks like, note the strings rather than the ugly midi buttons and the d-pad on the guitar.

Nice, you can import songs from RB1, RB2, Lego RB and Green Day RB into RB3, plus the DLCs.

That's too many songs.
Imagine if you have all the DLC and the games, that's more than 1.5k songs O_O

I'm guessing it's going to be the same price or more expensive than the rockband fender strat controller. and that's USD299.99 last i checked.

Now this is going to be a usable guitar, and the cheapest bullet strat from squier already costs USD199.99. It's going to be out of reach of the casual gamer for sure.

@trogdor, I already have 270 songs on rock band and since we don't have rock band 2 navigating the song list is such a pain. I'm really looking forward to the new sorting and filtering features.

Okay, RB3 is sorted out then and we're definitely getting it.
And RB2 import feature will mean we get to play those songs as well.

None of this matters if we can't even load the RB2 game to import the songs T_T
Unless it will work like Guitar Hero 5's import system that doesn't even require the discs. Let's pray that it does.

i wish d keyboard has 4 octaves. u can't really simulate 2 hands gameplay with 2 octaves. something must give. just try to play 2 hands with 2 octaves. it feels like playing on my kids toy piano. its near impossible. so much about making it close to the real thing.

Yeah but 4 octaves would be a LOT of notes to have to concentrate on, unless they give you live streaming score to read, and that is stupid hard.

There's quite a lot of news filtering out about rock band 3 so here's another interview from plastic axe detailing pro-drums gameplay,

http://www.plasticaxe.com/2010/06/11/exclu...unctionality/2/

Now this is a pretty cool piece of news, apparently the majority of existing dlc already recognises the difference between toms and cymbals, so if you have a selection of DLC you'll already be getting a whole bunch of songs with pro functionality for the drums.

Since plasticaxe isn't one of the big sites, i don't really want to copy and paste the whole article and deprive them of a clickthrough. So just click on the link. pls?

that's good. However, I would love to see backward DLCs be compatible with Pro guitar and keys though.

Oshi--
Megadeth's Peace Sells and Rust in Peace >_>
Also Metallica's Blackened lolimpossible solo and the Joe Satriani pack.

Added on June 23, 2010, 1:28 pmSorry for the double-post.

I just found out there won't be a strum limit like there was in RB1(dunno about RB2 though). I can finally get around to FCing Green Grass and High Tides(lol)

And it's out!

And it's awesome!

edit: Collection of random thoughts.

Didn't get enough time to try everything out. New for us is access to RBN - that's another 600+ songs in addition to the 2000 already available to us on DLC.

Cool thing is, previous DLC and on disc exports also count as goals and achievements which is a neat touch.

Don't forget to get your copy before the 1st of November because the offer for the 3 Doors songs will expire then. Buying the game between now and Nov 1 gets you Light my fire, Touch me and Riders on the Storm for FREE. You buy it through the ingame music store. FOR FREE. NAO.

No loading times between songs! Well they have animated transitions, but these actually con you into thinking there are no loading times. Great stuff.

For those of us still on RB1, we finally get proper sorting options for song lists.

RB2 import too, go out look for friends in the States or wherever and import your RB2 songs, it's about damn time we get to play Almost Easy.
Anyone played Llama on drums yet? Apparently it's ridiculous. Doesn't look THAT hard imo though >_>

Yep, version i got was ntsc-j from GH.. what was surprising was that it had RBN in the music store which i thought was just US exclusive.

I can finally wave goodbye to rockband from my gamercard.. it's been there too long lol

Gamer's Hideout told me that the keyboard bundle is region locked (ntsc-u) so they stopped accepting pre-orders for it. However, they will be selling the keyboards seperately for asia region.
