What do you expect from a high educated philosopher in old age century. Should that he wanted to discribe somthing "evil" or could harm humans but in term he also want to put it where high educated person in his time like the The Queen and other high rank people to understand him. Must be in those days, education are limited to high rank people and not for country folk, slaves or maid.
Then that brings back to my original point. Why describe "8-tentacled monsters" when "oily, scary and creepy" would do just as well? (And fit almost anything else that is oily and strange). And I'd think that highly educated people would want a MORE DETAILED explanation. Not LESS.
