Squad sheets: Chelsea v Blackpool
from Football: Chelsea | guardian.co.uk

Chelsea have scored 17 goals in four league games this season and that has been against teams trying to defend. Blackpool, in contrast, have shown a surprising commitment to attack on their Premier League debut and it will be fascinating to see if they repeat that against the champions. Last month's 6-0 thrashing at Arsenal may persuade Ian Holloway, the Blackpool manager, to be cautious but either way it is hard not to see the hosts, rampant in Europe as well as at home, winning a sixth straight game in handsome style. i knew studge could do it!! good finish to get his 1st goal in europe. much is expected from him this season, and from his recent interviews u can see that he's a young man with his head screwed on right, despite all the attention he's getting. nico had a wonderful 1st half and dropped off a little in the second, but take nothing away from his positioning and clinical finishing for both goals. deserved praise from carlo.

yuri overshadowed malouda imo, with some mazy penetrating runs which zilina struggled to deal with. had a very very strong penalty shout at the end of the first half where he bamboozled the defender with some quick feet, only to be taken out completely with the ref inexplicably ignoring the incident. kakuta had another steady extended cameo, showing some good touches and runs, and his tap in which was disallowed looked suspiciously onside.
mceachran managed to get some time, so he'll be pleased with that.

terry and alex were amazing in the middle of defence, with the latter providing some last minute body on the line sliding blocks which are fast becoming his trademark.

mikel and essien are now establishing themselves as the hard men in our midfield, although the bison had a few loose touches in the second half. the first goal which essien thumped in though was a work of art, in terms of the build-up and emphatic finish. at the rate mikel is going now, i wouldn't put it past him to usurp our great maka in the near future. do keep in mind maka was already at quite an advanced age when he showcased his best, and mikel is already on the right track in showing maturity within his game.

not pleased with cech though, as his confidence seemed to crumble after deflecting a harmless cross to the head of ivanovic, and gave zilina a free goal.
the goalkeeping coaches have a job on their hands in addressing this. last but not least, i was quite disgusted with espn whereby key incidents in yuri's strong penalty claim and kakuta's seemingly onside goal were not replayed even ONCE, but mundane and 'useless' scenes like whether alex let the ball trickle out for a corner were given extended focus in dynamic slowmo. smelled some strong anti-chelsea sentiment there, but maybe its just me. regardless, it's still filed under rubbish broadcasting.

LOL..

But other teams started to drop point already. This shouldnt be taken lightly and our players need to avoid complacency. We need to grab full point ahead of our next schedule, against City and Arsenal.

our red london neighbor drew their game last night. its a good chance to widen the gap! smile.gif

i wonder who will be playing midfield today.

essien and mikel has been playing alot of games lately. i wonder if the boss is going to rest them for this game, or maybe be on the bench? else it would be the usual, either benny or ramires gets the start on the left.

Our number 5's strength and stamina is famous throughout world football and Ancelotti values a physical presence in the middle of the park, although he will not exclude Essien from the current round of squad rotation.

'I think he needs to rest because he was involved in all the games and he will have a rest, maybe next week' by Carlo..

Wow..bold decision Carlo..rest Essien against MC..rest him tonight..Mikel-Benayoun-Ramires can deal with Blackpool..I sense leaking in the back 4 tonight..hmm hopefully not...

Would love to see an unfamiliar midfield line up tonite. But hopefully if that happens it won't bite our own ass back
