Total War Series Still Flirting With Consoles

user posted image
QUOTE
Creative Assembly's Total War series is one of the few remaining blockbuster franchises on the PC that is, at heart, a truly PC game. That hasn't stopped the developers from exploring how the game would work on a console.

"We have actually solved the problem with controlling Total War games using a control pad anyway", CA's lead artist Kevin McDowell tells CVG.

"In the past one of the artists actually coded up some experimental stuff just on his own time and was like, 'Oh that actually works really well.'"

"But I think the biggest issue really is, would Total War sell on console? It's kind of difficult to answer that question without spending all that money."

Before you panic, remember, Creative Assembly said this sort of thing before. And before you panic, remember, there's already been a Total War game on consoles! Spartan: Total Warrior was a solid action game spin-off for the series, released in 2005 on the Xbox, PS2 and even GameCube.

This time, though, it sounds like a lot more serious thought has been given to the subject.

"There's also, which is the better platform to push for, which is the best method?" adds lead designer Jamie Fergusson.

"I mean you've talked about using joypads, we've also looked elsewhere, we're looking at everything including iPhones, online gaming as well. Just different ways of playing."

Total War on console? 'We're thinking about it', says dev [CVG]

Total War: Shogun 2 system requirements released
QUOTE
PC Gamer has revealed what kind of hardware you'll need to run The Creative Assembly's new game when it comes out in a couple months. As they say, it's not that bad:

    Minimum Specs (Required for playing Total War: Shogun 2):

        * 2 GHz Intel Dual Core processor / 2.6 GHz Intel Single Core processor , or AMD equivalent (with SSE2)
        * 1GB RAM (XP), 2GB RAM (Vista / Windows7)
        * 256 MB DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card
          (shader model 3)
        * 1024×768 minimum screen resolution
        * 20GB free hard disk space

    Recommended Specs (Recommended for optimum game play of Total War: Shogun 2):

        * 2nd Generation Intel® Core™i5 processor (or greater), or AMD equivalent
        * 2GB RAM (XP), 4GB RAM (Vista / Windows7)
        * AMD Radeon HD 5000 and 6000 series graphics cards or equivalent DirectX 11 compatible graphics card
        * 1280×1024 minimum screen resolution
        * 20GB free hard disk space

Notice that Intel's newly released 2nd gen. Core CPUs (AKA "Sandy Bridge") are being recommended for games already... This is surely just a paid advertisement, considering they aren't much of an improvement over the previous models in terms of CPU power in games and nobody would objectively recommend integrated graphics for "optimum game play." An older Core i5 and any modern video card should work just fine.

Bit misleading, should just state quad core in the recommended specifications.

Anyone have any idea how much the special edition will cost here ?

I'm also planning to get a new rig. Currently am playing on Dell XPS laptop (ETW and NTW) which pasable with lower settings.

Initially I planned to buy base on CORE I5 760 setup but with the release of Sandy Bridge should I go CORE I5 2300 instead ?

The processor is much cheaper for SB but the mobo seems more expensive. I can afford on MYR 500 a month (been buying piece by piece).

Now I only need gfx card, mobo and proc. GFM was thinking of getting 460 but depend on review/price of upcoming 560.

It's more a hardware question but I only play TW games unfortunately.

Do you play ETW or NTW with this rig ? What's your gfx card ? I'm planning to get i5 760 instead of the newer ones as the mobo is generally more cheaper.

Can you play those 2 games everything on ultra ?

Currently using XPS 1150 laptop with everything on low except unit on ultra. Lag especially wil full stack battles / fort sieges.
