Has anyone sucessfully triggered a Nissin Di622 (nikon mount) optically with a Canon 430exII mounted on a Canon camera?

The Nissin will only trigger if I use the built in flash but not with the 430exII. rclxub.gif

unless the 430 EX is in manual mode la
IE not in E-TTL mode

Thanks DecaPix. It works now.
But why can't the 430exII trigger it in manual mode?

Hrmm... This thread doesn't cater to the dissemination of information regarding built-in flash? I think the built-in unit should be fully utilised before moving on to the external unit. (Sry for the tone, juz finished with my scientific blog post :-P)

Looks like a snoot with silver linings on the inside to me. thumbup.gif

Does anyone have any experience in working with these flash triggers: iShoot Wireless Flash Trigger PT-04 CN
They seem to be like a PT-04 stuffed in a different mould.
Plus they're a damnside cheaper than the phottix tetra PT-04.

since we're at it, if you guys have to recommend sticking with one light modifier, which one would it be? The softbox? Or a shoot-thru umbrella? Or a 5-in-1 reflector and use the translucent panel as a softbox/shoot-thru material?

Also, is there any place that gives out free gel samplers?

I'm still looking for a Rosco Swatchbook in Malaysia.
Its prohibitively expensive to send one here even though the sample itself is pretty cheap. sad.gif

Using those plastics may cause the picture to have a colour cast though.

and you want to tell me it has nothing to do with recycle rate? tongue.gif
i shoot with e-ttl mode. impossible every shot is full power la
*
No. goldfries is right.
The capacity does not directly affect the recycle rate.
Read this if you're still not convinced. tongue.gif

Could be the batteries then. hmm.gif

Followed my cousins to the pool last weekend and managed to get a few shots.
I could barely keep up with them. sad.gif
Half of the energy was spent keeping the camera dry. biggrin.gif

Some of the more successful cross lighted pics. All pics were lit with one ungelled strobe.

Anyone interested in getting the Rosco Strobist Collection?
I'm planning to get one from a seller in Singapore but unfortunately he doesn't accept Paypal as according to him, it has too many fees. sad.gif

@pengster/frutie the gels are usd9.75 on b&h, but the shipping, wtf ... usd49.43 ... unless we buy together and kongsi shipping otherwise feels like just burning money ...
*
Get them from ebay. Its cheaper than getting it directly from B&H.

I bought them last week. Waiting for it to arrive soon. smile.gif

wah that's cheap!

would u mind sharing the source please?
*
Yup. £12 for the item inclusive of shipping though you may want to add extra for tracking. I got lucky as the item didn't get lost in transit. smile.gif
I got it from this seller But it seems like the listing has ended. But this is still running.

The strobist collection is good but some gels are missing such as 1/8 CTO or 1/2 plusgreen. I wanted to get the Rosco Swatchbook but the only place that sells them and ships internationally is Adorama or B&H. Anyone willing to organise a bulk to get it?

Did you get the 55 pieces one?

I can organize a bulk for that, but it'll cost RM120 per box (each box 55 pieces) for personal shipping from US. That's the best deal I can find currently.

http://www.rosco.com/us/video/strobist.cfm <- this is the one
*
Thanks, but I already bought it. I'm looking for the swatchbook now. smile.gif

do we really need all the colour gels?
if i got 55 pieces of them, and i have to think which one is suitable for every occasion, i think i will go mad.
*
You mean the strobist kit?
Actually its not 55 different gels.
It just that there are several copies of those that are commonly used.
Comes in handy if you have several strobes.

It comes with practice. smile.gif
Just like how you determine your ISO/shutter/aperture.

Besides, I bet you haven't seen the Roscolux Swatchbook yet... brows.gif

QUOTE(goldfries @ Jan 8 2011, 12:27 AM)
what for you need 55 pieces?

just 1 piece orange translucent piece you can adjust for so many different orange intensity already. in fact that's the one you'll use the most for indoor.
*
Nah. Different lighting calls for different gels.

yes but i'm saying la, generally when you shoot indoors with ambient light, a single piece of CTO can do a lot already.

Added on January 9, 2011, 1:43 amand yes, like what you mentioned, some are because of multiple copies.

i think the 55 colors are useful for achieving various effect, like say you want key or highlights in a different color.

and sorry, earlier i was talking in context of say shooting a wedding or function in a typical warmly lit setting.
*
True but you can't just buy a single CTO or at least not from my experience and those gels are pretty difficult to get hold of. smile.gif
