Hi, I bought a Philips 42' Full HD LCD TV (PFL 3609s) last year for RM 2100. The picture qulity in the shop was great. But at home its has blurred somewhat. Its still clear but the figures are somewhat elongated. The people are a bit 'broader'. I checked with the shop and was told this is the effect of large screen tv's. But i didnt see this effect in the shop. I heard there is some cable that can be installed to provide sharper and more refined images minus the 'enlarged' effect.

Can someone clarify this and where to get this cable? I stay at TTDI, KL.

....

You are using a normal coaxial cable to watch tv ?

If you plug in your notebook and watch a movie, it should be alright.

Normal tv / astro is not built for widescreen.

Get Astro B.Yond, then it should be oky

Dont wanna switch to a Beyond for now. Its only a few channels and dont see why we should give Astro any more money. Im using normal cables i guess. I would prefer to get some new cable or aparatus to improve quality. The TV shops were all using normal Astro so im sure its the different cabling which enhances the images. I have the same problem with my dad's LG Full HD LCD TV as well. Which will solve this problem?

set the TV to not stretch Astro la... but you will have to bear with the black bars on the side.

there is no way you can avoid this - either stretch or pillar boxes, the TV Is 16:9 and transmission is 4:3

best picture you can get is to turn on whatever Philips processing is on the 3609, and set to display 4:3 for Astro.

Can you save different display modes for different inputs?

But im wondering how they do it at TV shops? The images are much clearer and sharper. How do i get that kind of quality at home? This was even before Astro Byond came so it must be something to do with some cabling or aparatus.

Those people are lying to you. Usually what they did is they put the decoder in front, but at the back of the TV, they're playing it from another source. Probably a blu-ray to give you that ultimate quality.

Or they're simply playing a channel from Astro Byond.

When i bought the TV there was NO ASTRO BEYOND. So this issue has nothing to do with Astro Beyond. So can someone tell me BESIDES installing Astro Beyond what are the other methods i can use to improve the picture quality and eliminate elongated images?

u r quite naive.... the shop was obviously playing the tv from a bluray player or media player and NOT ASTRO!!!!

pls get it over your head that you will not get nice clear picture from Astro. The sooner you do that, the sooner you can go on with life... icon_rolleyes.gif

YOU CANT .

STOP DREAMING . Jesus.

Need someone to smack you with the reality hammer ?

Astro is using old tech, it was not built for wide screen. U can cry all you want but its not going to help.

You cant improve quality via cables, no such thing. At least not in the sense that you want.

Maybe you better refer back to the shop that you purchase the TV, ask them, why my TV, when at home, did not have the same PQ like when in the shop.... hmm.gif

but I really suspect that is the sources problem. Astro SD channels are designed to be viewed on Normal CRT TV. Not 16:9 widescreen TV.

My advice, you better change the aspect ratio setting at your TV. Change it to 4:3, but you will see the black bar at left and right of your TV.

Other way, you can change the cable that is connected from your astro decoder to TV. I suspect that you're using normal CVBS (Yellow) cable. Oh gosh! That kind of cable you really need to avoid when you're using flat screen display... sweat.gif Change your cable to S-Video cable. It will improve a PQ a bit, but not so noticeable.... only about 20% improvement, (like my case before I'm moved to Byond).

Or you have HT system with build-in upscale function? If u have, u can connect your astro to HT first, let your HT do the upscale process, then it will output the upscale picture to your TV via HDMI cable.

Obviously i know that the picture quality from the shop is due to some device and not a direct source from Astro which i why i asked what other means i can use to improve the picture quality. I did not say i want good picture quality with Astro WITHOUT doing anything. Im asking what can be done to get the same or similar picture quality as the shops. So i need someone to confirm the methods used and if it will be viable for me to use. Its that simple. Do read my posts carefully before replying.

Cheers!

anyone want to sell snake oil? or monster cables?

actually what he face is real, and is usually faked by the stores.
the stores usually used astro beyond or hard disk/blueray player

in any case, do experiment with either RF output (the big round connector like antenna one) or s-video (like ps/2 mouse port one)

the s-video cable should be able to buy in rm2 discount shops or carefour/tesco. dont pay rm100 for monster cable.

First, what program you saw in that shop? Astro program or movies/documentary/etc pre-recorded in demo DVD or blu-ray? Usually, those demo discs play at shop give quite good PQ in display TV (That is what their intended to achieve).

Sorry to tell you that if you use FullHD LCD to watch normal Astro program, you will not achieve the same PQ as you saw in the shop if at that time that shop used the demo disc on their display TV.

to be honest everyone has been laugh.gif

it's just not been worth the price (DVDO VP20 is US$1,499)

perhaps this is what the shop did, IF in fact they had been playing astro, getting a VP20 would be worth the price to be able to sell TVs

Go to Aspect setting, set it back to 4:3. This will solve your "stretched" image.
As for the PQ for Astro, go and buy the best RCA or S-Video cable to test it out and if you can improve the PQ similar to that of the shop, don't forget to share it here drool.gif drool.gif

Im refering to Astro programmes on the shop TV's not the demo DVD. I was under the impression tht ull need a cable or run the incoming Astro cable through a Blu Ray to get that kind of effect. So that means that everybody who has a large screen LCD TV has the same problems? And there isnt anything much they can do about it?
