i see..
okay. if you trace back, you can see i just open up my SG CIMB too.
i believe they way it works are:
1. if you have CIMB MY, its easier to convince them to open CIMB SG for you, unless you work in SG. that's how we that are not working in SG get an SG bank account. not sure how you get your Maybank SG.
2. like CIMB MY, most of the time CIMB SG will reject you, unless you say for "investment".
3. as for your case, I'm not sure since you are studying? not sure if you can tell them investing. but don't worry that the reason is different for SG and MY. its two different thing and i don't think they will sync up info anyway. plus my age and income tax no dictate I'm working. so again, not sure about your case.
*
I got my Maybank SG smoothly, just print forms, fill it and tell them honestly "do investment", then it got approved. (Notice the different with "CIMB MY", you say "investment" with student status it is an immediate "no", at least from the "first branch" of CIMB, not sure how things are with CIMB SG yet).

Maybank MY opened while I study at college, so I was on solid grounds back then, with offer letter from college, scholarships etc.

Yes still studying, but this time in HK uni. Offer letters are of no help, so as Student ID since they are all evidences/proofs based in HK. The only "rather stupid" reason I can think out of my mind yesterday was "facilitate transfer of funds between HK and MY" and to further convince/persuade them, gave some terrible excuses like "fx rates are good...". I also added my father has account at CIMB so "service is nice"...

I don't like to cheat, not really considered cheating anyway since the funds from HK will some day come back here, though that is not the main purpose.

I will wait for some time first before going on with CIMB SG, still busy with air tickets and quarantine hotel bookings.

No need wait. It's all online. Just make sure you have sgd1k inside Maybank to make your life opening CIMB sg easier.
*
laugh.gif I forgot to tell you that my Maybank SG account security token has reached its authentication limit and I am asked to contact customer support, which I have emailed them. Now cannot transfer money to IB or out of Maybank SG to anywhere else.

no. i said that usually the sure way to get an acc is to say investment.
but I'm not sure about your case since you are student.
in any case, you can try first, or wait first. up to you  smile.gif

I mean "you say" in the sense of "I say". Just misunderstanding. I get your point well.

I use excuse for investing last time for CIMB sg as well. Maybank sg 2fa support SMS authentication.
*
What sort of excuse? Maybank SG to add new payee they only give me option to use the security token. But for some access, I can choose between token and SMS.

Not sure if this helps.

Excuse for opening cimb sg.
No need to to services. Just pay new payee.

Alternatively just call them and ask for new security device. Faster than email.
*
Ok, I manage to use the Maybank SG app to bypass the issue I mentioned earlier. Can transfer via phone app for now.

Maybank sg app have 2fa build into them?
*
Ya they have secure2u built into the app itself. So transactions can be done without any authentication needed. Just register for secure2u on Maybank SG app. They will send confirmation code/TAC via email and phone. Once both of them are verified, you are done.

So, Maybank SG phoned me just a moment ago and told me that my token is locked. So they will unlock them.

The CS rep suggests me to use the token often even if no fund transfer is done. Maybe once a month, she said.

Perhaps this can be a useful advice for those who use Maybank SG with token.

you can, but to withdraw the free apple share, you need 10 trading transactions.

Now comes with restriction. Nice bundling marketing.

That is no longer "free" AAPL. tongue.gif

Whats best investment in Singapore, say via Moomoo platform? Slow growth low risk.
*
Banks, REITs (large cap, mid or small caps depending on your risk appetite), conglomerates (the Jardine family), some tech counters mainly involved in chips/semiconductors like Venture/AEM/Micro-mech etc. Banks and real estates certainly slow growth low risk, chip counters can vary from year to year, medium growth would be a better word for me.

There is no "best" investment per se. It varies from one investor to another.

What's the Minimum deposit for Malaysians to open Maybank SG account? is it $500 or $1000?
*
My time (1-2 years back) and Ramjade's time it is 500 SGD, now on the website it still says 500 SGD, but Ramjade shared earlier that the bank CS indicated the minimum is now 1000 SGD. You can email Maybank SG to ask first before you open the account. If they say 500, then you keep the email as proof in case in the future they charge you below-balance fee of 2 SGD.

CIMB SG Linkage with CIMB MY approved!

I honestly mentioned in my CIMB SG application that my account is for "investment" and chose "student" as my occupation. Not sure if MY side know or not.

Thanks Ramjade!

Received a phone call from CIMB SG to verify IC number, birthday, address, purpose of opening account and income tax number. It says private number and when I pick up it redirects me to CIMB SG (you hear the "tut" sound for a few seconds before someone pick up and says she call from CIMB SG).

nod.gif I linked mine as well but hasn't really used it - they have competitive rates to bring SGD back into MYR so definitely worth comparing even against fintech like Wise.
*
So you feel that CIMB SG to MY is better than Wise/Instarem? Or they are on par?

Thanks for the guide! Super useful.
Wondering is there any annual fee for CIMB SG account?
Moving to SG soon, planning to open a temporary account first and apply a permanent one once I reach there.
*
No annual fee. Just make sure you keep it active, not dormant, Gracie mentioned it towards the end of her blog.

I find the desktop web interface very old and buttons are somewhat like Windows XP style. The mobile app looks more refreshing.

It's been a week since I depo 1sgd from my cimb my and then transfer 999 from my dbs... Still no call from sg cimb..
*
Did you follow Gracie's blog instruction? I presume your CIMB SG linkage with CIMB MY has been approved by CIMB MY?

I transfer 1k SGD from Maybank SG since I already have Maybank SG. According to her blog, you can transfer 1k SGD via Wise/Instarem/Sunway Money etc from your MY bank account to fund it.

I don't know if the call is necessary though, Gracie didn't mention that in her blog instructions.

Get this once account opened and already show link and transfer money like I say before..
*
If this is the case, you can drop them an email and contact their CS representative to ask for updates. For my case, the whole process takes around 1 week from submitting application to final approval.
