Here u go. Referral code deleted already. Hahahaha

Happy to share that I have successfully opened my OCBC Singapore account with just my IC and Passport.

The process of applying through the app is a bit a pain in the ass, as needs to do several times for the app to accept my IC. Tips, the ic can be slightly outside the rectangle.

Took about 3 working days for the account to be approved. Was given Global Savings Account and Statement Savings Account.

Initial deposit required is just SGD1000, it can be from your Singaporean bank account or Malaysian bank account. I already have Maybank SG account. So this is very seamless.

Despite the T&C showing initial deposit for non-resident Statement Savings Account is SGD20k. I just needed to deposit SGD1k. Not sure if this only applies for Malaysians or what.

Regardless, even if the fall below fee for non-resident Statement Savings Account which is 20k is imposed as per T&C (no fee for first year), don't worry, we can go around this.  cool2.gif

Once you have access to the OCBC SG online banking, you can immediately apply for other accounts like OCBC 360 (minimum balance 3k) or OCBC Frank (minimum balance 1k), Monthly Savings account (minimum balance 500) or other OCBC SG accounts. I prefer OCBC 360. I will close Statement Savings Account after this.

So for all Malaysians residing in Malaysia, with no SG pass whatsoever. Right now we have 3 easy options for SG bank accounts (Maybank, CIMB and OCBC), everything done online, super easy.

Just wondering though, why would one need more than 1 SG bank account? I have Maybank iSavvy and I don't see any need to have more than 1 account though.

I don't keep a lot of money in the account, most of my money will be invested in places like Stashaway.

With this in mind, does it make sense to have more than 1 SG bank account?

Unless you need an SG bank debit card, one can just use CIMB SG and OCBC SG. Maybank SG has securities issues with their debit card, let alone having to lock up 200-500 SGD of funds aside... Not a really attractive offering.

a Singaporean debit card is quite useful when you're in Singapore, although you can also use OCBC Cashless withdrawal if one has already opened an account.

if you want cheap SGD->MYR rates better than mid valley, you'll need CIMB sg.

For me I don't need MBB sg, so I only have 1 aka CIMB sg

Haha as Ramjade once said, not many people will come to SG (apart from work/study) or stay very long anyway.

For short stays (e.g. travel/vacation), can just use your Malaysia credit/debit card for transportation (MRT/bus). Food in hawker center can pay with cash.

With OCBC/CIMB SG account can use PayNow QR. Can use Wise card or other fintech cards also.

So, yea plenty of choices.

Yes. Malaysians without singpass cannot open moomoo. Reason is moomoo is coming to Malaysia soon. When? Dont know. Supposed end of 2023.

when i visited Singapore on 1st week of Oct 2023, the Maybank Debit Card (tokenized with Samsung Pay) was VERY VERY useful. I could ride the MRT like a local and don't have to pay the extra 60cents foreign card admin fee nor i had to purchase EZ-Link prepaid card, paid for some stuff at FairPrice, paid for Hostel accomodation at premise.

And, my itchy hands was like, "hmm.... whats the conversion rate like and how would it feel like to pay via Wise tokenized with Google Pay", was charged 60cents, even though the 60cents is only a one time charge per day, i still reverted back to Maybank SG Debit card

Although when i tried withdrawing money from Citibank's ATM (atm5 member) at Changi Airport T2, it was declined, proceeded to use the OCBC terminal and did cardless withdrawal for cash.

So DuitNow is the cheapest option to transfer from MYR to SGD for small amounts, but limited to 3k MYR.

For large volume transfer, MoneyMatch still leads the way.

That sounds about right. Mine took 20 days from online application to getting the PIN code on SMS to create Cimbclicks SG login.

A warm reminder to those who took up CIMB SG's "fake" 3.5% floating deposit promo.

The earliest batch (those registered in August 2023) will see their promo expire at the end of this month, i.e. 31st January 2024.

Unless the promo is extended, from 1st of February 2024 onwards, you may withdraw all your money from CIMB SG as you deem necessary. The last bonus interest shall be paid on 20th February 2024.
