Hi there, i just upgraded to the 4Meg package a few days ago.

To my disappointment it's been pretty slow tonight.. Speeds are fluctuating between 2-3.6 Mbps, dropping to below 1 sometimes during sustained prolonged direct downloads.

Currently on the 218.111.xxx.xxx address, seems to give the best result for me. 175 IP can't even push me past 2Mbps on the local speedtest.

Location: TTDI (near one of the TM COs apparently, only 0.98km away)

Edit to add: Could be due to the TM Maintainence in Selangor and Klang Valley right now. Surfing and other basic tasks like streaming not really affected though.

Using the D-LINK 2640B supplied by TM, SNR margins seem normal....

DOWNSTREAM: 20
UPSTREAM: 13

its me or lately d dl speed decrease?

i using 4MB plan,max dl speed is < 160Kb (i am not a hardcore dl-er)

Check your modem sync speed on your modems page.. TM may have synced you to 2048 kbps not 4096 as you should be getting...

Yes, its possible. Your SNR and line attenuation stats are very good, also it seems like your line is already capped at 2048 for downsteam..

Go for it!

@Sitting Duck.. you can try... but be aware that if you do get capped at 5Mbps, you will be placed on Interleave Mode instead of Fast Mode for your connection for stability purposes...

What that means is that you will have additional latency to websites and other online services you use.

If downloading is all you care about then go ahead, but if you game online or use any other latency sensitive online applications you'd be better off with just line cap at 4 Mbps and FAST mode

Going strong at 218.x.x.x. Speeds are consistent, and that's what's important.

Don't mind not being capped at 5 and having nice pings too =)

Hearing about your IP woes makes me reluctant to reset my router/modem.... I've had a 218 address for the longest time now.... not gonna lose it hopefully....

Depends on the port and DSLAM you get, it may be very good, or very bad. Luck of the draw, as they say.. and also, the distance of your house from the exchange will determine whether you can get 1,2 or 4 Mbps....

If you can get 4 Mbps, you may have a choice to be capped at 4 or 5... 4 is more stable than 5, coz it uses the FAST profile rather than the INTERLEAVED profile which adds more latency to your connection...

Been with 4 Mbps for 3 months now and so far, and i have to say its been pretty good for me so far... gamings been okay, PS3 gaming is not bad, latencies not too shabby... and speeds been consistent.. of course i'm on a good DSLAM and live less than a kilometer away from the exchange (CO) so that could also be a factor... (except for that one time where they miscapped my speeds down to 2 Mbps and i had to be escalated to ATS where they verified my problem and fixed it there and then, really good CS that time, i got to hand it to them)

I say go for it... if the stars align, as they say =)

Yes, the conclusion is that its stable, go for 4 Mbps if you are a gamer

@jchong

The INTERLEAVED profile for 5Meg capping is something only peculiar to TM.... other ISPs offering ADSL do it too, but only for the top of the line speeds.. some even let you switch profiles at will..

E.g. INTERNODE in Australia.. coz they provide services based on usage caps, and not bandwidth caps.. For example.. you get best effort 12/1 with a 50 GB limit...
This 12/1 is for the default FAST profile.. when you switch it to INTERLEAVED, the 12/1 will change to 15/1 perhaps.. this is on ADSL 2+..
For all intents and purposes, we're all on ADSL 1/1+ speeds here in Malaysia.... which tops out at 8/1 if you're right next to the CO...

The profile adds about 25-50% extra latency to the connection if i'm not mistaken.... for local connections the added latency may not be significant, but when you try to game on foreign servers it will all add up to contribute to a laggy connection...

Hmmm... it seems like certain areas are "locked" into certain premium IP pools...

Today i had to reset the modem/router a few times for a few config experiments, and found that even after 5-10 resets, i'm always given the 218.111.x.x range....

Another 20 soft resets (on the modem's web interface not the power button) and i'm still getting the same IP range...

Guess my area's locked into the 218 IP then....

Still on the 218.111.x.x range right now...

Speeds are good, latency to most websites are acceptable... nothing dead about my IP so far =)

That seems to be true.... Am still on a 218 ip and is wondering why certain DDLs from RS and MU just die out for no reason and then resume after a few seconds of inactivity... although not all links are affected....

Quite odd...

Also.. after checking the line for me, he requested use of my broadband to authenticate the inspection and "activate" the new cap which took exactly 24 hours after he did it to work...

Check your modem line stats, and post them here if you can.

You could still be mistakenly capped at 2 Mbps..

If so, contact 100, request them to escalate to to ATS, ask them to cap you at 4Mbps (after confirming your modem stats with them) , if you're lucky and get a rep who knows his stuff, they will get the Network Dept. to do it for you.

I got that 2 Meg cap once before they rectified the issue, had a very sympathetic ATS rep contact the Network Dept, with me holding on the line and changed it on the spot.. Lucky me...

Downstream data on your modem should read 4096 kbps

@coolmast3r

You're right about the attenuation... but as for the SNR, the minimum required for 4 Mbps is only 20db... But if your line holds steady, then good for you!

What the installer said is kinda true... although your port would have already been set for 4 Mbps before he came, the system needs 24 hours after he 'activates' it to register the changes and give you your speed...

Reporting in from TTDI

IP range = 175.145.x.x, 4Meg package

DDL speeds are still good at 440-450 kBps, but given that i'm using premium for the big three (MU/RS/HF), I've never really faced capped speeds before, even when all this rubbish started, even for those file extensions people were talking about

Surfing is pretty decent.... but i don't go to China's websites...

All in all it's been pretty good except for those rough few months with miscapped speeds...

Yes, that is true. How else are they gonna check your phone no. got 4Meg coverage?

The availability of the port is dependent on your phone number, area, and the exchange your phone line will be connected to.
