Since I am new to this android, I need to ask a few question

1. I am unable to create a shortcut to show the notifications. Everytime, I need to press the menu key and then notification. Is there anyway I can create a widget or some kind of shortcut to the home menu?

2. Unable to use own sound as notification to email or sms arrival? Can only select based on those built in?

3. Can you select different sound for sms or email arrival - right now, any type of email/sms arrival - I have the same sound

I also want to share the software that I have installed since Thursday

1. ASTRO file manager
2. Youtube HD - replacing the built-in Youtube app
3. Advance task killer
4. chompSMS
5. WiFi On/Off Widget
6. Bluetooth On/Off Widget
7. Barcode Scanner
8. Advance Task Killer
9. Evernote
10. F1 Racing
11. MSN Talk
12. Roland Garros (from Gameloft)
13. Opera Mini
14. Places directory

Anybody can share what other games/app that is fun/crucial/must have?

I actually don't mind paying the USD4.99 but need to have some review if possible before making the purchase

Thanks

I don't have the phone yet,but to get to the notifications,u just drag down the status bar at the top smile.gif

And please uninstall ur Advanced Task Killer. This thing has been discussed to death. Android simply doesnt need task managers,ATK will just mess up ur phone.

To those of you who are suggesting to wait for Froyo to install apps to microSD card, think again. Most of the apps at the moment are only programmed to be saved to ur phone memory since we're all using 2.1 at the moment. So when Froyo comes to our phone, there's no guarantee that all the apps will have the option to be installed on the microSD card because the devs will have to update their apps to do so. So I'm just saying its not as simple as waiting for Froyo to install apps to ur microSD card, you'll need apps which allow u to do so. But hopefully by the time Froyo comes to the Desire, most,if not all the apps would have been updated to have the option to allow installation on the microSD card smile.gif

Looking at the changelog on some of the apps, I say think positive; The devs are working hard to make sure their apps are up to date. Hopefully my favorite apps will be app2sd ready  flex.gif

Yes I'm sure by the time Froyo is officially released on our phone, most,if not all apps would have that option ready. I guess my point is there might be a possibility that some apps won't get updated to include that option, but that'd be stupid on the developers' part.

Froyo pls come soon! Can't wait for Flash! In your face,Apple flex.gif

The actual amount avaible for you to install apps on the I9000 Galaxy S is just 1.8GB, another 200MB seems to be used by the OS. And the other 6GB will be free for you to store music,  video and other stuff. From the review I read, Desire only have 100+ MB for apps installation. If you can wait for Froyo, then should be OK since it allows apps to be install on the memory card, but still need to wait for long time.

The Desire initial promise 720p video recording and Divx support also not yet been realised. And all this features, is already available for Galaxy S, but the price will be higher, and not sure will local telcos will carry them or not.

Galaxy S has great specs, thats true. But I won't buy the Galaxy S in favour of the Desire. Why? It's too like an Iphone. UI looks like iPhone's,even the design looks like iPhone's. Come on Samsung,be more creative doh.gif

Oh and if you guys think HTC software support is bad,Samsung's is even worse sweat.gif

Guys,do you get delivery reports for SMS? I don't seem to be getting them? Obviously I checked the box for delivery reports but I don't seem to get them. Or I just don't know how delivery reports look like on the Desire? xD

Is it just me or is the weather app a bit 'confused'?? I noticed this last nite, when I updated the weather app,it's still showing the Sun even though it was like at 8 something. And this morning too,at 8,it's still showing the moon. Am I missing something?

I think u just need to practise on yr pinching ahaha. Mb yr nails r in the way. Or mb u r confined to dbl tapping on the screen or just pressing the home button :P
*
hahah nooo I didn't use my nails. I think it was the HTC's Calendar widget that caused it. I've removed that widget, rebooted, and now it's working fine so far :)

Anyway,is anybody using swype like I am? I'm totally in love! It's brilliant!
Just one thing though, how do u swype smileys like :D and :p ? I can add the ':' part easily but then lets say I wanna put the 'D' after that, then it adds a space after the ':' so it now becomes ': D' . So does anyone have any idea?

Absolutely loving my Desire after about 4 days of ownership. Battery is still a bit suspect, but that's because I've not fully conditioned it yet and it's still early days and I'm using the phone ALOT! haha just can't get my hands off it biggrin.gif

The UI is totally awesome,I love the widgets and quick UI. Coming from N95 8GB,it's a refreshing change. Everything feels so much quicker,so much more integrated. Switching between different apps have never felt this fast! And I love the customisation and options it offers. For example,I don't like HTC's calendar widget,so I went and downloaded Smooth Calendar and it looks brilliant! Simple, looks good, and gets the job done. Then there's Swype,my goodness its a Godsend. I don't think I'll ever want to type without Swype again, though I do sometimes. Mainly because Swype lags sometime in the browser and Facebook app. But typing messages? It's a breeze! Tapping on the keyboard seems so old-fashione now, though I still tap on the Swype keyboard when I want to register a new word into it's dictionary tongue.gif

A few flaws and bugs though. The weather widget is,how do I say this, confused? Sometimes it's already 9 in the morning but it still shows it's at night, and vice versa. But the weather animations are super nice! And it's cool to show off to your friends, especially when there's thunderstorms and U can see thunderbolts on the screen, nice one HTC! thumbup.gif The touchscreen is a bit buggy sometimes. Sometimes in browser the pinch zooming doesnt work and sometimes pinching to go to Helicopter view also doesn't work. But I suspect it's due to Swype as some users have complained that pinch zooming in browser is buggy with Swype installed (or any other alternate keyboards such as SlideIT if I'm not mistaken). So far that's the 2 only flaws I have with this thing. It performs like a champ and it makes me smile everytime I turn on the screen biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

And I'd like to give a special mention to AskarPerang. He's a nice seller and delivers the item on time. The EPIKcase is simply wonderful! They look great and they're very solid. All the holes are exactly in the correct position and it feels good in the hand (not as good as the Desire's soft touch back though, but then again, nothing else feels that good). The only thing is it's quite hard to put the case on,but I guess that just instils a feeling of security that the case will hold onto the phone tightly. So whoever that's still loking for a case, look no further smile.gif

Actually i installed the Swype before, but then i can't search it out of my input method.....
same goes to the voice input, i seems to have the standard input to choose when i'm typing~~
*
You need to activate Swype first. To do this,go to Settings>Keyboard>make sure the box 'Swype' is checked. Then when ur typing a message or something, tap and hold on the text box, then select Swype smile.gif

A note to Swype users (not sure if anyone else besides me is using it).

If you noticed I complained a while ago that Swype caused the multitouch gestures to be quite buggy. I think I have found a solution for this. When I'm on the browser,I used to change the keyboard back to the original keyboard coz Swype is quite laggy in the browser (I dont know why) so that was the problem. So now, instead of switching back to the normal keyboard,I'm sticking with Swype ALL the time, never changing the input method. Now Leap View and pinch zooming works every single time. The downside is I have to cope with the laggy Swype input in Browser and Facebook app,but I can live with that. So yeah, hope this helps other Swype users smile.gif
