they just flatten the uneven part in the drum, that part will make the brake shoe "sangkut"... so scared if u see how they solved it.. only used hammer to flattened it...  just take about 10 minutes for both side.. now, no more noise...
*
u serious? iya how come my sc mech said cannot leh...... ok ok thanks for sharing and knowing it can be done...... although not so proper.......

It's my sister car anyway..

And the car has not been done any service during the 1,000KM.

Now it's hitting 5,000KM already. What should i do??

Free service voucher comes with what? Engine Oil? Or just free labour charge?
*
i think u broke ur warranty liaw... need to follow service procedure accordingly.... unless u know the person in the SC that they can close one eye and just give some chops here and there to show that 1st service was done.

oic thanks for sharing. cuz the other time i spend my time with the mech.... we noted the bumps on the sliding pad on the backing plate area..... so i suggested why not they flatted it out by means of grinding or hammering... told me cannot so... since they said so.... then i just let it be.

so far urs ok already la????

if that is the case.... i see la how.... mb i do mind when it gets worst.

now u know? its very common.... happens to almost all car brands. it always happen during shipment in sea vessel. i see this all the time in the port. depending on which vessel company its using and its workers moving the cars. u think our new car is virgin? think again. some of them do wheel spin, rev kao kao and some even race either in port or out of the port on the way to stock yard or showroom. very very common.

well actually my last service was 11500.. if you refer to the service manual it also indicate that the next service interval is every 10k... even in my service receipt proton indicate the next service should be when it reach 21500.

by the way, is it compulsory to service at proton for 20k onwards? will void the warranty if we service outside?
*
Yes service interval is every 10k. BIG problem is...... SC will always swear by the every 5k service. For me, i do not give a damn. 10k service interval is what i am following according to service booklet. End of the day, i am still within its warranty requirements.

Our auto market is badly poisoned by 5k oil change bullshit.

Dude.  Do that at your peril.  After all, it is your car.  But don't expect others to follow your advice.  I'm using a reputable Semi 10W 40 & when my ride is nearing the end of the 5K Km cycle, the oil is black as hell & I can feel a significant difference compared to when the oil is new.  If you are using Fully Syn, by all means, 10K Km cycle is OK.  I feel the service booklet is grossly wrong in the oil change intervals (Should be for fully syn)

If you read the user's manual, Proton recommends 20W 50 (which should be mineral) Try this & your FC will shoot up & it is like riding a buffalo up hill.
*
never expect ppl to follow my advise. im just pointing out the mindset ppl have thats all.

Hello, anyone notice/has feeling the persona elegance headlights isn't bright and the angle is low?
*
yes persona's headlight is not bright enough. the beam emitted is not as intense if compared to my ex myvi and my mum's kelisa. it is also factory adjusted way too low. anyways, if you dun mind to DIY.... it is very very easy to adjust. Two nuts located at the rear body of the headlight unit is there to adjust. Just make sure u dun adjust it way too high till it blinds drivers from opposite direction! smile.gif

PE b line auto, I just changed stock brake pad to Bendix Metal King Titanium brake pad, RM125 from kaitospeed + RM20 labour. The effect is good, solve 90% of ngek ngek sound, and i able to do sudden stop(previously unable to do sudden stop with stock pad) but i still think the brake isn't up to the standard yet, however compare to stock brake pad it improve a lot and i can drive more confident. Mayb due to the brake pump/servo isn;t good enuff(as i heard, PE b line use gen2 1.3 pump/servo)

think of change brake hose in future

p/s: proton risk driver life.

-anyway to improve the beam?
-i'll try to locate the nut. How actually we adjust it? Any reference how should we adjust the angle? any min or max angle?
*
agak2 wan la. based on ur observation on the road on how the beam shines and how high u want it to be. and then reach home.... face the car with the wall and do ur own marking and adjust accordingly.... with the lights on of course! tongue.gif
the nut easy to locate wan la... its just two white nuts. when turned, u can see the internal lens reflector moving... So you should know which nut to turn loh....

again..... not too high!!!!!!!!!!!

and to improve the beam intensity.... since nothing much can be done due to its design of the reflector.... so what u can do is, change the bulbs lo.... expensive though. hehe... options:

1. Philips vision plus
2. Philips X-treme power
3. Osram Night breakers

All the 3 above is same as factory wattage. Plastic lens safe. I only played with Vision Plus before... have yet to try the rest....

what pad u using. i changed to ceramic nao, been making noise since day 1 after change. then went back to mechanic ask to check. said was the brake pad then asked to cut the sides a bit making it less edgy. after that was good, no sound for a while but now the sound is back. feel like changing to other brake pads
*
-currently i am using one of my favorite brake pads which is Trestor Advantage. Wanted to get my other favorite pad as well which is Bendix Titanium but was out of stock that time. These two are worth it. Not expensive and works really good. cutting the edges of the pads does help in reducing the noise. BUT keep this in mind. It also removes the total area of the pads contacting the rotor which means, lesser grip and hotter pads that it originally designed for in the first place. i would prefer them not to grind away the edges....but they did with my original pads without me catching them first hand! sigh.

Why can't everyone who visits this thread & complains about a Proton accepts the fact that it is a car that is not meant to last. I mean all Proton cars. If the Proton part suppliers or vendors manufactures parts that last forever, that is suicide for them.  Same for Proton. From a businessman's point of view, everything is calculated. Even Proton does not want their customers to use their product forever.  For the price you are paying, don't expect much.  After all, good quality Proton alternative replacement parts are easily available & affordable.

Try owning a new Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Peugeot, Hyundai,Naza, Kia etc. of about the same class, if you don't earn 5K nett/mth. & above don't dream!  At least in Proton, a person who say, makes about 3Knett/mth. (assuming HOUSE mortgage=1K, CAR & PETROL=1K) he or she can still survive owning a new car. For what it is worth, the Persona is not bad.  My anniversary is up in a month's time & a neighbour recently ask me about the performance of my car.  My Reply? No regrets. Highly recommended.  That's my honest opinion. I can't hear that from some of you guys. That's unfortunate for those with bad experiences.

POTENTIAL NEW PROTON OWNERS BEWARE! DON' SAY YOU HAVE NOT BEEN WARNED. (& regret later)

chinese or not.... whatever race the person is...... it is such a disgrace by itself. its just to show what is never should have happen from service provider in the first place. this is good to circulate. why not. it is to create awareness for both consumer and the company.

well , this is normal as the breakpad is still new .. last year my family got the exora which also has this problem ... after ignoring it for sometime
now no more sound  tongue.gif
*
Dear drivers, oh btw... brake squealing comes from a lot of possibilities such as the the type of brake pads. those that are especially with a lot of metallic materials will usually squeal more. some pads squeal more at low temps especially during first few braking. once it gets up to temp, it will be gone.

btw, jacky.... that noise most elegance owners complain... is it solved yet? how is ur car so far? i gathered that elegance is improved further in the NVH level areas? any difference?

Now first thing is to lower the springs so that the car butt is not so high..  tongue.gif
Btw I dont like persona's soft brake.. It doesnt give me confidence to drive fast.. I test drove my frens persona before and it was spongy like.. I wud prefer something that wud give me a more progressive 'feel' like the honda city or nissan sentra brakes..

humm.... if u are particular kinda person enough i guess ur best bet will be replacing the pads OR having it "shaven" off a bit using grinder (bawah pokok style) but heck it works ok! some workshops will cut a bit of angle at the edge of the pads to reduce the possibility of such noises. but for me, nah i wont do so because i want to have max contact of the pad surface and rotors. so far, for mine.... the only squeal problem i have is my rear drums especially when its wetted due to rain fall or after car wash. the first few braking is really annoying.... really loud.

Added on August 19, 2010, 12:11 amanyone have problems with their air conditioning sucking in outside air??? I had mine fixed but i think it went wrong again.... gotta have it refix again. darn it.

ermm honestly... coming from my previous car MyVi and Civic.... Persona drivers / owners are more boring la even the topics in the threads are different. The talk of mods are few. LOL.... But it is nevertheless a nice car in its class and price range. Lots of modding potentials as well. Well different view of the car i guess. For me, i am just waiting to dump in a nice set of wheels and perhaps SE bodykit! tongue.gif
