Hi guys,

I am looking for an AVR with the following features (all 3 is a must) for my HT. Please recommend the brands and models that are available in Malaysia. Entry models will do.

1) HDMI
2) Capable of decoding HD audio (DTS HD, DTS MA & etc...)
3) 7.1 pre out (connecting to my mulit channel power amp)

you may get made in Bolehland AVR but cheaper than getting from Bolehland.

VSX LX-52 - RM 5K++ or RM6k (not sure)
SC LX-72 - RM7K (confirm)
SC LX-82 - RM8K (confirm)

For Pioneer price listed above, if I have a budget of rm6k, how good is LX-52 fare against other brands? Any comment?

Pioneer MCACC is good enough for room EQ calibration....

my current pioneer was 5th AVR and for me pioneer the best la....just my opinion..

ELITE indeed.. if spend so much on an avr which has a very short shelf life [ I mean if hdmi 1.4 or newer tech cums along..] , I d prefer spendin it on better spkrs..

I d get a midrange avr - pair it wif decent pwr amps [pwr amps never go out of style].. once time to upgr .. at least its a 2/3k loss compared to wat is listed abv..

But then again, I m a peasant..

also, if you get the Pioneer LX models with ICEpower, connecting the pre-outs would defeat the purpose of having the digital amp inside the Pioneer

I believe the Yammy rx-v765 has 7 channel pre outs and would be below RM3K. If u r up north, u could check with Hi-Fi choice, they might have one or 2 units left.

Kinda true spend so much on AVR since the newer HDMI 1.4 is coming soon. As for my case, I needed the pre out just to utilize my power amp. But again, kinda waste if spend so much on AVR and don't use the internal power amplifier.

Unless someone is kind enough to make a test on Dune or Oppo 80 (using the pre out) connected to power amplifier to test the True HD or DTS HD. If the results is satisfactory, it will help the environment with less 1 unit of AVR at least...

You cannot send a 7.1 out from a BD or DVD player direct to a power amp. The output from the player is a not a pre-out per se, it is decoded audio out. It needs to go to either an AVR with the correct inputs or a multi channel pre-amp. The signal is unfiltered and there is not gain control.

if the player has onboard decoders the 7.1 analog outputs can be connected to a multichannel power amp (or multiple stereo amps)

however unless the player also has a volume control, there is no way to control the volume on the power amp.

Also, what would you do with other equipment - astro decoder, xbox, media player etc etc

The Oppo has a digital volume control. However, it is as I said, its digital and when reduced passed 80 (it reduces in 10s from 100) it starts to compress the range in the digital range. It is not recommended to be used as its not a true gain control.

I am not sure of the Dune.

The Oppo does have a proper xover setting page as well as delay. The better option would be to send it to an amplifier with a proper gain control (preferably a master gain control).

Boss, maybe you should sell yours Time for upgrade

I know Dune and Oppo both have onboard decoder and both can control the volume from the remote control. Oppo also have the speakers calibration(distance and delay) but I am not sure on Dune.
