i need a 21 inch and above lcd monitor.. budget below RM600
any good one to recommend?

Not a gamer but i use my lcd to watch movies so a good tilt would be good.
Any of the current dell lcd monitors are good? 20-24"
http://www1.ap.dell.com/my/en/business/mon...s=mybsd1&~ck=bt
any of this good?

feedback appreciated
*
i advise u to check Samsung although I've only 1 Dell monitor, only satisfied and nothing spectacular~

QUOTE(cucubud @ May 13 2010, 07:58 AM)
Your link is not working.
Are you looking at the Dell ST2210 (RM579)?
Thie monitor seems to match your price and it is a Full HD.
*
Full HD don't matter if there isn't any Full HD content being viewed~ if not mistaken, blue ray is the only content that can reach full HD and I don't think there is any content material for 720P and above other than that except Youtube~

QUOTE(8tvt @ May 13 2010, 08:55 AM)
i think 8ms is ok.. last time more than that..
maybe have lag or ghosting.. but not that obvious..
*
5ms is not good enough for movie (worse for gaming)~ I'm using ST2210~

i haven't received a word from DELL ever since I asked for warranty a week ago~ just got an auto-response e-mail and that's it~ anyway, 5ms from my ST2210 isn't enough responsive enough for movies~ I'm a newbie at monitors but I seriously see that high resolution .avi movies are much better (although yes, they are compressed) than in pixel quality as compared to the DVDs I bought and this should be due to screen size~ the downloadable movies have smaller screen size, thus, the chance to have more pixels in that small area of screen~

I've tried to search for a comparison shootout for ST2210/ST2410 against others but couldn't find one~ this is my first LCD and after a 2-days tour at PC Fair and comparing it with my current ST2210, I'd say that the colour quality is average only (probably due to those panels at PC Fair being IPS or plasma), backlight bleeding is minimal but occurs at the sides (can't see any bleeding at all at PC Fair, so can't compare), and the 5ms is irritating me, although I've no chance to compare responsiveness towards others~ all in all, DELL wins when it comes to bang for bucks, I'd rather save up for an IPS panel when it gets cheap~

please guide me if I'm wrong, my write-ups here are only opinions since I know nothing about LCD until I joined the Hardware section 2 weeks ago~ I still get irritated with the 5ms... yawn.gif

Welcome LCD monitor thread reached v9 rclxms.gif
While u care about ms, have to care about input lag too which is no manufacturers advertise the input lag of their displays. Having a great low ms doesn't mean you are safe from lag/delay.

Btw Mr sexualpower, Some DVD's movie doesn't have good quality due to poor source. even suck then .avi. Can't watch full screen, I have few case before, make me vomit moneyflies.gif but u can always view in "original size" for best quality.
About 5ms, should no problem for any usage. I have no problem watching anime, movie, gaming with my 6ms Dell 2209WA. maybe other hardware cause it? what is your pc spec?
HP brand LCD?
*
watching movie gets me dizzy when the camera swings from one side to another~ Geforce 4 ti with Full HD, 60Hz refresh~ somehow, I think that it is either the refresh rate or the 5ms responce time~

QUOTE(vearn27 @ May 13 2010, 11:28 PM)
Sorry for being missed out, actually what happened to your monitor that you're seeking for warranty with Dell? sweat.gif

I actually called them up a day later after I received the goods and they missed out another power cord since I ordered for 2 units of monitor and they only sent me one power cord, they immediately re-sent it to me a week later via DHL after the report.
*
1 bright spot, obvious on black wallpaper~ I was asked to supply service tag but couldn't find any 9-11 digit code although I've written down all codes and called Skynet, Dell CS and Dell hunting line for help~ no one picks up phone for technical support and I can't get through Dell CS coz none of the codes work (service tag)~ I've submitted a warranty request online a week ago and all I get is an automated reply and that's it, no calls, no contact~

cheap IPS panels~ the colour reproduction should be top notch~ I guess the need for review would only be for major issue like response time~ superb price~

i think for anime, the colours don't need to be very accurate and I doubt that there will be any ghosting issues~ the movements may be too slow for ghosting to be noticeable, if any~

If you just buy the monitor alone, you won't have the 9-11 digit service tag one, only those whole set computer got.

From my experience, I phone over the CS. Tell the issue, then the call being directed to a CS personnel. Then I told the issue, name/account/ address, which they have the info to verify it.
He told me to write an email attached with warranty claim issue/photo to him as official paperwork for the warranty claim.
Then after 2 days, courier service sent 1 to 1 replacement unit, and took back the defect one.
Somemore they are premium panel one, don't need to scare got dead pixel.

wow! thanks! I'll go try it out tomorrow during lunch happy.gif

I'm considering between U2211H and U2311H.

Is there a noticeable difference between 21.5" and 23"? blush.gif
*
i was considering 24" and 21.5" ST series from Dell and was very happy to get 21.5" due to the distance the monitor is away from me~ this distance will determine the quality of your viewing due to angels away from the centre making the sizes of objects skewed and colours fade (like white becoming beige and lower levels of brightness)~

for this distance, feel free to go to LYP to try out other monitors~ I advise u to request for face paced movies~ I tend to miss out the sides of the 21.5" if I sit 1 foot away and at about 1 1/2 feet away, it is the sweet spot for me as I don't like to miss out the edges during a movie~ also, due to pixel sizes when a screen becomes big (and resolution staying the same), I will say that it is not the bigger the better unless u have Full HD materials or use Windows most of the time (though even when using Windows, you may have to sit further away as compared to usual to see two ends of the screen at the same time, like for picture preview or icon search)~

please write a review if u are purchasing U series from Dell~ I'm interested to know how it fairs as well~

QUOTE(Top-Gun @ May 23 2010, 02:16 AM)
Ok, boils down to the price now.

Decided to sell both my 2007WFPs.

Is it wiser to get 1x U2410 or 2x U2311H?

I know that I am not a very serious gamer (input lag and slight ghosting is OKAY for me) but picture quality must be excellent for like webpage viewing, document (sharpness of text) and day-to-day activities.

Have been out of the IPS scene for quite some time so I would like to hear some thoughts from you guys. Whether this eIPS panel is worth the investment or is just crap anyway.
*
u'll most probably regret it~ the reason for gamers still using CRTs is because of the responce time~ it's all about frame rate and excellent refresh with no lag~

QUOTE(everling @ May 23 2010, 01:55 PM)
The conclusion is that response times are actually far higher than what is published in the specs. And blur is not detectable in video but is in more artificial settings like scrolling web pages and gaming.
*
agreed, definitely will bother u if it's high response time~

i am still deciding to buy u2311 or st2410
8ms is kinda a turn off
*
gamers should go for faster response, it's all u need~ although it may be a marketing gimmick, response time is still pretty standardized; grey to grey~ why don't u check out some LCDs at a shop, but make sure u play games on it to experience it~ another factor is how large the screen is; the larger it is, the further u have to sit away from it, otherwise, u would have effect of not enough refresh rate (here we go again)~

anyway, someone's selling ST2210 for RM560 with 3 years warranty, I think it's worth it and suitable size for gaming~

QUOTE(kaiser_falco @ May 24 2010, 05:58 PM)
i use to think that response time la, crt better la for gaming, and few more typical gamers worried mind..but at the end of the day when i bought my dell 2707 and my samsung 40 inch lcd to games all those thinking bout crt or watsoever just disappear especially once you immerse in your gaming experience..
*
yes, I think CRT has best refresh rate~ big 40inches is for PS3, not PC gaming due to the need to stay at least 1m away~

QUOTE(x_X @ May 25 2010, 03:34 AM)
guys , i wonder whats the cheapest LCD with full hd? buying 1 for ps3..
*
Full HD is 1920x1080p, 21.5" can get full HD~ probably check garage sales, someone's selling ST2210 for RM560 with 3 years warranty~

I have  received my U2311H.

However I'm not sure how to check if it is indeed an IPS panel as the image is only clear when viewed directly.

When I stand up or move to the side the colour turns darker.
*
hhmm... we need to know how good or bad it is~

QUOTE(kianwee @ May 26 2010, 10:05 AM)
I received my U2311H, there are slight backlight bleed at the top left corner. Kinda disappointed because when I purchase my 2209WA last year, it was almost perfect - no backlight bleed, quality control was top notch.
*
that sounds terrible~ my ST2210's backlight bleed is not that noticeable and even none existent for normal usage~ for the U2311H to be worse than the 2209WA, which is an old version of the ST2210, I guess this is where the U series is lacking~

2209WA is the old version of ST2210 ???
One is TN and the other is IPS panel. That's in different category
*
QUOTE(catsper @ May 26 2010, 02:34 PM)
2209WA is in its own league (Ultrasharp series) and currently in revision A02, ST2210 is never its successor. For new U23/U22, the quality of Ultrasharp LCD may have dropped to translate a better pricing, but with the same premium panel warranty and great stand with better viewing angle, I would say it is still a great deal in consumer market.

my mistake, guys~

Hi,

My target is to get a 24" FULL HD Monitor, however, there is several type of monitor currently in the market

just wanna know how different it is between LCD, LED and IPS panel LCD from human eyes..

Thanks for any input..

Would like to listen any recommendation on the model too..Thanks.(budget 600-700)
*
for your budget, why not pick a 22"? the pixels are smaller but u are getting exactly the same amount of pixels~ it's just the difference of sitting closer or further from your monitor~ anyway, Full HD material will only show the potential of Full HD, which is only dual layer DVD, blue ray or 1080 trailers~ even Byond is 720P only if not mistaken~

feel free to check out this 22" RM495 that we're gonna COD in bulk tomorrow -> http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1450752

possible but unlikely, our friend paid for a new monitor~ Dell would've gotten their brand in danger if they supplied even 1 refurbished unit as new unit, besides, they are the ones giving warranty~

Had a quick few shots of the screen with the lights off... I set my desktop background to solid black, moved my shortcuts into the middle and turn-on the taskbar auto-hide.

0.2 sec exposure

[attachmentid=1630684]
0.5 sec exposure

[attachmentid=1630685]

Seems like the upper left bleed is the most prominent.  doh.gif

Given the lottery of screens one could get, any replacement screen may not be any better (or worse have a stuck pixel)  rclxub.gif
*
this seems like IPS glow instead of bleeding as mentioned before by another forumer~ if u don't view the 'bleed' at other angles, then it's an IPS glow, which is natural~

but yours seem to be a very severe IPS glow as compared to my current ST2210~

there is a ranking for monitors on gaming~ I didn't save up the page but it's from a forum~ seems like 6ms is good for gaming~ but when it's advertised as 6ms, it doesn't always mean 6ms~
