hi 8tvt,

the iso800 is triggered,

i. he zoomed to max, let it be 55mm kitlens ot 70mm oldkitlens or 80mm cz, the min shutter speed will not be less then 1/60
ii. as long as the iso can be auto-bump before it maxed out at the default setting (1600 for A550)
iii. orchid hates direct sun whole day, assume its under a big shade, F5.6 is dark under shade.

smile.gif some new info for u to interpret.

but the density of sand is definitely higher than air..it will definitely drop back down to the ground...unless there's a sandstorm or a very big win..

so i still dun quite understand how it will get into ur sensor...furthermore with ur lens attached on the body..

unless u changing lens then its another circumstances la.. laugh.gif

I think the part your lens moves to focus, sand can enter there. Not sure though smile.gif

those that u mentioned, are considered large grains of sand...
sand particles, esp those around high air flow locations will rub against each other so much that the friction will cause them to breakdown into minuscule sizes, invisible to the naked eye..

easy way to answer u, everytime u go to the beach and come back, do u felt ur Hair is rougher? that is cause by sand particle...

the word particle is the keyword... its smaller then grain

beach, which has No Tree On the SEA, mean expose to sun, heats up, sea water become vapour+sand particle. add wind,... u get sand particle in ur camera.

(not to screw up everyone, but its actually salt particle, but seem everyone call it sand particle, i follow along...)

agrees with you on the salt, but i would rather say that it is silica + salt... well, they're mixed together anyway..

wow... iER very keen observation.
close & accurate... nearly got it correct...

extra info for bro 8tvt,

1- I zoomed in to ~50mm but shooting at ~MFD (min focal distance) so that the subject will nearly fill the frame.

2- using 1/60s for shutter speed because I want to avoid camera shake (ie 1/f distance, here f distance is 50... hence shutter speed I used 1/60s). Although with Sony's SSS, I maybe able to shoot images 1-2 stops lower than the 1/(f distance), but for this photo, the subject (orchid) was high above my head height... I had to shoot with my arms fully stretched above my head and tilting the LCD down so that Im able to see the framing. Shooting with camera held above the head does not help stabilizing and avoiding camera shake... hence better to use faster shutter speed.

3- I used the aperture number F5.6 because I want a deeper DOF than using F4.0 or 4.5... so that other parts of the flower too are not blurry.

4- Used ISO 800 which is high because the ambient light was not much. It was shot at ~5:46pm (which is not bright.. if in Peninsular Msia the equivalence of shooting at 6:46pm lighting). Also if look properly, can see speckles of water droplets showing that it was slightly after raining that I shot this. Hence the sky is quite casted. Thus, the reason why I chosed a high ISO.
