Do superstition affect you? It did to me. Recently I bought a car and had to pay some money to buy a number plate. Its not becoz I like the number. Its becoz I want to avoid certain numbers that will make it hard for me to sell my car later (I oredi kena with my previous car which had two digit '4' on the plate, cilaka.) So I did it for financial reasons.

Yes many of us don't believe in lucky numbers but we still choose to avoid it because its seems nobody want to buy anything with a "bad" digit on it. So indirectly a disbeliever oso encourage the practice of lucky numbers.

The question: Do lucky numbers work?

Before you say no, let me give this scenario. Lets say you were shopping for a house and you got two to choose from on the same street. One is no. 44, the other is 68. Price same, both are equal in all other respects. Which would you buy? Why? If you avoided no. 44 and you say lucky numbers don't work, isn't that a contradiction?

I don't believe in lucky number. You previous car buyers complain about the number probably because they want to make you reduce the price. People who go for numbers are losers. When something bad happened to them, they will blame it in their car numbers, house numbers, their fengshui, their surroundings, their father, mother, children, collegues but NEVER THEMSELVES.

Give me a number plate with 4444, I'll gladly take it. Such a nice number. Maybe thieves will avoid stealing my car for fear of getting bad luck, LOL.

You had to bid for the number 4444. Malays like the number four because "empat" can be twisted to "dapat". Just like how chinese twist "pat" to "fat".

you see.. that is evidence that these are bullshit.

Malays like 4 because dapat but 4 is bad for chinese. So, does that means the numbers can recognize it's owner to be chinese or malay and then work it's magic? LOL

Yup I get wat u mean. The belief in lucky numbers is still the root cause behind that. JPJ smart. They know you are willing to pay to get lucky number so they auction it. So no surprise, if u got any of those 'magic' numbers, then u must be rich enough to bid.

Its amazing, everyone I know don't believe in lucky numbers but they all play safe as you say, ha ha. laugh.gif

What I am saying is bad or good numbers are determined by cultures. Caucasians think of 13 as an unlucky number. For chinese 13 is a good number.

Culture or religion or race, if 13 is considered good for one person then change owner to someone else becomes bad??? Numbers know their owner and works good or bad according to their owner?

Psychological effects sure that I can accept. Like you get your favourite number eg, 13 it boost you confidence in your badminton match. But when people go overboard and say stuffs like 13 I will get into accident then it's too much already. No pyschological effects involved, just relating a number to a random event that will bound to happen to someone.

Another example, if 13 is so good for person A, then he/she can go bet in number 13 only in casino and win money lah. Why need to work so hard? Oh no..it doesn't work this way..then how? It works only when you can relate the number for something good or bad in your life? That again is mumbo jumbo stuffs related to same concept of god and religion.

True. One thing about Malaysians that's a bit different though. If you start pondering about the meaning of things, people start seeing you as an oddball with an undesirable trait of thinking too much. People always tell me: just do lar, u think so much what for? Even people with masters degrees tell me this!

Abubin,
I did not say number are lucky or unlucky. I said people are taught what numbers are lucky or unlucky by the upbringing. I never had 4 in my life (eg student number, house number, phone no, car no, ic number, military no, birthdates ...). I don not consider myself lucky or unlucky.

I would agree with you that the luck element will not change because of change in ownership. You would also be surprise how the sum total of phychological effects can affect bad or good. Wall Street observers found market had a tendency to be bad on Friday the 13.

Yup, the upbringing play a big role on a person's mentality. Because our parents or grandparents believed in such a thing, we end up believing as well. As society advance into more and more logical way of thinking, less and less people will believe in such a thing.

As for the Friday 13, wall street market is worst if because in US, majority of the people believe in Friday 13 being a bad luck day. Therefore, they might sell short or not do trading on that day. Thus this effects can be seen as a whole. Again, using this as example, does such market trend occur in India or China? No it does not. Therefore it further prove that it is more human factor than divine stuffs.
