QUOTE(patryn33 @ Dec 20 2010, 09:43 PM) that's Vostok-Europe. They aren't regulated well. if U don't care too much about accuracy. The impression I had was the Vostok Europe models had better regulated movements than the original Vostok ones (which do not seem to be regulated at all).some uses Tritium gas and they glow like the famous Ballwatches. the ones U are looking at certainly comes with gas tubes. how much did they quote U? not sure online prices are better, the 2 links that choen provided are reputable sellers. Seen alot of ppl buy russian prices from them on watch forums. |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Dec 21 2010, 09:35 AM) they are regulated but to what specs. If I am not mistaken, Japanese and Swiss automatic watches of similiar price range have similiar tolerance (on paper).most usual Vostok Europe are at +15sec every 24hrs. and its regulated to meet -10 seconds a day and gain no more than 20sec. |

Swiss standard rate +-12 secs? They tend to make their stuff sound better than really is aint it. For ETA 2824 standard, if you read their specs properly, it's really +-30 a day at maximum.
The Japanese on the other hand prefer to report the worse case scenarios and their watches perform much much better than on paper. That said, I don't know much about the Vostok Europe's Vostok 24xx based movements, except on paper. My 'unregulated' 2416b is so far still being run in. |

Whenever I want (relatively) accurate time keeping I use my G-Shock. It performs better than the rated +-10 seconds per month.
But it's a different fish from mechanical aint it? Hehe. |

Not all of Casio's sub usd300 watch are made in China. Yes a lot are cased there but the parts come from different Casio factories around Asia.
Almost all the current g-shocks I have seen are made in Thailand. In the past some were even made in Shah Alam! I wished I can buy an atomic G-shock in Malaysia (they can only be purchased from overseas dealers). But then again, with the nearest radio signal coming in from China, how well will the synch work through all the mountainous lands? This post has been edited by choen: Dec 21 2010, 06:19 PM |

Do you want the watch to look fancy fancy or the watch to just tell you exactly what time it is?

wilekiyo: that is a nice timex!
And it's quartz too... easier to maintain and more accurate than mechanicals (like the seiko 5). But once you get yourself bitten by the real watch bug you'll want nothing but mechanicals. Right now, go to the shops and test for yourself if you like these simple watches to be in the big 40+mm sizes or the more traditional sub 38mm sizes. yijzen: Interesting. Greymarket seiko 5! |

Your elders need to make themselves feel good.
--- Those watches in the ebay links are so cheap probably due to the very low grade materials used. I dont think they'll last but should survive your time in college. Actually, you can find certain Casio edifice range of watches for about rm200. These will last and are actually pretty good time keepers. It's sales at the shops now isn't it? |

QUOTE(xuzen @ Dec 30 2010, 01:30 PM) ![]() An illustration of a nurse watch. This model is battery operated. Anyone know if there exist mechanical version? Xuzen I think, for better accuracy, battery operated quartz watches are better for nurse work. |

I think you have to set the date at the end of each month. It's easy with the quick set feature.
