Hi bro HKC & Utility47, "Mindstorm Posted Jan 17 2012, 12:44 AM Post #1896" Above was bro Mindstorm's interesting findings that seems to have a correlation between height/atmospheric pressure and FS's aggression. Above was the post#. This might explain the FS being ' ice cream'. On another different matter on FSs living on CB leaves, these FSs seem to fight well. I had a chopster during my childhood which won all the FS fights until one FS caught, whose nest was CB leave. That FS withstand waves of being chop and strikes back with a vengeance. Mojo |

QUOTE(Mojo2011 @ Sep 15 2013, 10:40 AM) Hi bro HKC & Utility47, Hi bro Mojo2011, good to hear from you. Yes, I now remember the post by Mindstorm - he did good research into FSes. During secondary school days, I also remembered catching about 10 male FSes from a stand-alone CB tree. One of them was a dark chopster. Though it is not "big", it was definitely fierce. Indeed, most of my best spiders were from CB and yam leaves."Mindstorm Posted Jan 17 2012, 12:44 AM Post #1896" Above was bro Mindstorm's interesting findings that seems to have a correlation between height/atmospheric pressure and FS's aggression. Mojo Recollecting, besides this CB tree, I also caught abundant number of spiders from a short durian tree and also a short coconut tree. My observation is that FSes tend to be near to food supply. For the CB and cocunut trees, they are near to rubbish dumps. For the durian tree, it is near to my grandmother's kampung kitchen. For yam plant experience, I can only remember two incidents. One was a yam plant behind a primary school. I only caught one male, but it was my first king at that time. I also remembered many ants crawling near the nest. Another "yam" experience was a few yam plants near a river. I managed to catch a few "big" males then. This post has been edited by utility47: Sep 16 2013, 10:31 AM |

Hi bro Utility47,
"Another "yam" experience was a few yam plants near a river". Another important factor is places that near water like rivers and canals. All my FS hunts during childhood were near canals. I wander how are bro Randy, Ricky & BTL? Mojo |

QUOTE(utility47 @ Sep 17 2013, 07:49 AM) Hi Utlility47,There was this 2-3m long shrub which most of my childhood FS hunts were. The shrub was bushy and provided lot of shades for FSs.The leaves were relatively close to each other, providing the ideal overlap for FSs to spin web easily. Attached were the pics. I think bro Viper mentioned various type of leaves which FS live. bro Randy mentioned the type of leaves that he had hunted FSs. Mojo Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(Mojo2011 @ Sep 18 2013, 09:48 PM) Hi Utlility47, I have hunted FSes on those leaves you indicate. But not very often. There was this 2-3m long shrub which most of my childhood FS hunts were. I think bro Viper mentioned various type of leaves which FS live. bro Randy mentioned the type of leaves that he had hunted FSs. Mojo Yes, besides bros Viper and Randy, there are others who share the leaves of Fses. Indeed, it seems that our T.Bha can stay in any kind of leaves, including pineapple and sugar cane (though I have not seen/caught spiders on such leaves before). The leaves which I hunted Fses most is found on top of Trevally's blog http://fightingspider.blogspot.sg/. The plant is relatively low. Sometimes, in opening the nest, the spiders jumped out onto the ground and it is very difficult to find them. Indeed, it was only in upper primary school days that I used the plastic/scissor(tearing the leaves or leave stalks) method. At that time, my primary schoolmate's sister worked in a plastic factory, so she often brought back rolls of plastic bags which are rejected by quality control. They are perfectly fine and usable though. So we have abundant supply of free plastic bags for spider hunting. |

Hi Utility47,
Plastic bag+scissor method is the best and safest. I got butter fingers, alway injured the FS with just using bare hands. I have a childhood friend, Ah Eng. Pro Sia. Only using bare hands. He would peel the leaves steadily to access the size and sex of the FS. The FS will still inside the leaves. His captured FS were always big and good fighters. Mojo |

QUOTE(utility47 @ Oct 1 2013, 05:27 PM) Hi bro john & everyone,Yes I'm back but not sure my "fs heat" can last how long tis time, bcos most of the fs bros seems like totally m.i.a...maybe some of them did tried to hunt just didn't get any good size. Recently I went back to some of my previous spot also can't get any big male, most of the time is catch & release them on the spot, "too big liao".... Today evening tend to get some spar to test my newly caught (Temporary named them Fs1 & 2),the hunting result still the same, failed to get potential gd size male to challenge them.mostly see run or one push goodbye type Alright them..since no other bros hv fs let's fight them before I release! wah...no bad ley. But the top( fs 1) one fighting stance bit weird..yes HK T-bha dancing steps haha. Means tis could be one of the offspring fr the female released by master Kim..he usually supply losta females to his 1st king and then release to his secret spot.guess unreal peno also one of the hk-local mixed breed. ok guys,g2g now. ricky |
