Hi Bro Trevally, i guess Bro Jong and myself we are really hardcore and enthusiastic about fs that's why we still hunt alot of fs until now, nothing to do with persistency. Currently, except we 2, only Bro Vincent, Buaya(aka Peter) and the Pakcekop Clan still keeping and hunting fs.

So will you be back for playing fs regularly this time? Or just once in a blue moon again!!?

Anyway the T.Blue subadult i caught on the 2nd this month has moulted last sunday.. but not into the short arms male as i expected previously, he looks much bigger than i expect, i think about the size of SL(small large) for now.
I will try to rear him till ML size or even larger! rclxm9.gif just like what we have seen, the T.Blue female can be so huge(refer to earlier post #141), so why not the male, since this subadult i named him Charlotte, can become a normal male.

Here's the photo biggrin.gif

white face already...still can grow bigger meh?
how big is "small large"?? is the emphasis on the small or on the large?

Yes, i believe still able to grow more since he is a just-moulted fs considered a very young fs, plus i been feeding him alot.

It is also based on the past fs-es i kept before, i witnessed them growing bigger(usually half a size or a size up only) after around a month's time, maybe becos we are feeding them with crickets daily(sometimes they can eat up to 4-5 crickets a day), and so everytime their stomach are really full and big, becos in the wild most of the time they dont eat till that full i think. Especially for those young-looking and shiny fs which got good digestion, fat stomach become small shortly then keep eating n eating, even 3weeks later can see some difference, not merely becoming darker as time goes by i feel.
pretty interesting note. crickets are quite nutritious feed for fs i guess. i'll see test it on my own fs also.
QUOTE
SL is the size between ML and BM, the emphasis is on the "large". All the fs photos i posted in (#158) are all within the size of ML, to be more precise we call them big ML. While the only L-size(a size above ML) fs i caught was Royal.

This is the size category in ascending order:

S cat
1. S - (small)

M cat
2. SM - (small medium)
3. M - (medium)
4. BM - (bigger medium)

L cat
5. SL - (small large)
6. ML - (medium large)
7. L - (large)
8. KK - (kingkong)

I will monitor Charlotte's growth over the weeks to come and let you know if he really grow a size up(the ideal case!).
Well but at least can grow half a size up.
u have a nice size category standard here. how do u match it up to mm in body length?

great fights.
seems like quite a number of chopster u guys have. IPman, Naga chopsters?

Yes, feeding crickets is indeed a good method, also saving the effort to everytime catch insects for the fs, just one packet of crickets costing at S$2, can last you for 2-3weeks time.
u can get pinheads at ur lfs meh?

QUOTE
Well.. as for the body length in terms of mm, we dont have a corresponding complete checklist. All these while, most of the fs we are keeping are at least SL and above, so we mostly look into the L cat, not really for the S cat and M cat. For these 2 categories we merely judge the size thru experience.
A fs of ML size should be at least 7mm long, even some fs are 7mm long but if their arms are not long enough, they will be classified in the SL rank. And a true L-size must be at least 7.5mm long with very long arms. Well.. an Ideal KingKong size fs should be 8mm long, 3mm for head width with super long and thick arms i guess, but till now haven't seen a live one yet.
nice. wah..that means the blue fs male u got is quite ok in size. did u try to mate it with the big female?

Simply amazing! Never thought that any fs fight can last longer than the previous record held by Viper's fs. And here we have it. Wonderful documentation. Great to see viper also took the time to sum up the actual fight time... must see wheather active fight time match up to his record hor. smile.gif
Firstly, training via repeated fights certainly raises the tenacity of these fighters tremendously. What a big difference between the willpower of these fs compared to those that run after 1-2 second push.
Secondly being evenly matched in size also counts.
Thirdly, I think the way the 2 fs fights also is important in determing how long the fight can last. If one is exceptionally skillful and aggressive, i guess the fight will end early. In other words, fights where serious injury is inflicted fast will certainly be shorter than fights where both fighters either do not inflict serious injury or have the skills to avoid them.
In fs, flank attacks to the legs, especially near the base, is a actually pretty potent technique in finishing off the oponent. We can see early in this fight, while the fs are still fresh and energetic, there are attempts to target the legs(eg at 3s, 10s, 22s) but the counter attacks is pretty solid. Towards the middle and end of the fight, direct teeth to teeth pushing seems to be tolerable to both fs, hence the fight can drag on. I think the crucial point was at around 7.57 where the winner got hold of the loser's pedipalps, and i suppose injecting venom into the loser, and holding on right up to 8.31. After that can see the loser is quite dazed(8.44) and subsequently unable to carry on.
All in all, a superb match and certainly a groundbreaking record. notworthy.gif

Anyway, thanks a lot, bro Ura, for the upload(s) and it's really nice to know how much you enjoy fs catching.

For me, while hunting fs, it is like time can stand still and 2-3 hours can past in a blink of an eye.

Mindstorm, since you did the timing count for my FS fight previously (4 mins fight 2mins break), maybe you can do a comparison of the active fight time between these 2 long fight videos. Which of these  2 FS fights you think are more active and longer fight contact duration?
*
Viper's Blackie vs Viper's Razer (14Aug2008)
Total time recorded = 6 min 10s.
Total break = 2 min 13s.
Total fight = 3 min 57s

Ura's Aso vs Zaly's Ratchet [1st Oct 2010]
Total time recorded = 9 min 6 sec.
Total break = 4min, 59 secs.
Total fight = 4 min 7s!!

Base on our estimated fight time analysis, we have to conclude that the previous fight record have indeed been broken by about 10s base on active fight time.
The previous record is just as incredible, having stood for more than 2 years but finally we have a worthy new record. Both i'm sure are fights we never thought would be possible if we didn't see it with our own eyes, thanks to video recording. Now they're fossilized in youtube for current or future fs kakis to be awed and to be a benchmark for future fights to match up to. Wonder how many years more before the new record, if ever, will be broken.

Sorry, "overall" i mean from tip of forelegs to tip of abdomen.
From face to tip of abdomen abt. 2.5 cm.
genus could be bathippus or opisthoncus from googling images.
i wonder how they name the species. seems to me all messed up.
should do DNA analysis to straighten the mess! HaHa!

thanks for the id. seems like it is bathippus. does not look at all like opisthoncus.
according to reports males grow up to 10mm in body length which is pretty big. 2.5mm would make it the largest jumping spider in the world already...larger than hyllus diardi.

By the way there is a sad news to announce, Zaly told me that Ratchet has RIP few days ago. But i don't know about the details yet. Maybe just as what you supposed, Aso was really injecting venom into him at the 7:57s. Despite so, Ratchet definitely made a very good name for himself as a fs born in our fave spot N*U.
actually this is quite an insight.
is it possible that the reason Ratchet died was because of the delayed effect of the poison by its own species?
in other words, is it often or very possible that if a fs is allowed to be bitten and held for a long time in a fight, then likely it may die after a couple of days?

Hi Viper88 and Mindstorm

I should be going to KL sometime in November 2010, will probably be one of the weekend, Saturday and Sunday. rclxm9.gif

It would be nice if I could meet you guys. What I propose is you guys catch some FS beforehand and I bring it back to SG to have the fight video. We will release the FS in the wild thereafter.

As I will be in KL with Mrs Exspiderking and two Exspiderking junior, I would not be able to hunt FS with you guys.

Making arrangements and will keep you guys posted once confirmed.

But from the top, you can see the half-folded long chelicerae.
Not a big jumper, about 7.5mm body length including chelicerae

Finally, watch how their long sharp chelicerae is used in this spectacular battle between a young and older mangrove jumper of similar size.

This must be one of the most unbelievable matches i've seen. Fast, exciting, unexpecting and totally bloody....
Those 2 fs were totally out to rip each other apart.
The blood on Porkchop's tail... hard to see how he got injured but it seems like this is one of the rare "jumpover" tactic a chopster fs can use. This was exhibited by one of my fs called Jack long time ago and now here we see Cannon using it. Cannon actually successfully jumped OVER Porkchop right from the start and tore Porkchop's tail, however Cannon couldn't hold on and Porkchop gave a really strong and brave counter. Incredible.
Here u can see the same thing happened to Bighead's abdomen caused by Jack

Special Highlights of the Day:

I) ~Ura's Raksasa VS Vincent's Big Chop~

II) ~Ura's Changi01 VS Koppao's Newly-Caught04~
Very Exciting power fights, even the normal FS also very strong flex.gif
*
yeah, i saw, those were superb matches too.

i still stand in awe of the Cannon vs Porkchop fight. Imagine if have hi-speed camera to capture and slow down the events that happened in the first 3 seconds, including how Porkchop actually counter and turn around to get the upper hand which eventually led him to hold Cannon like a fly...

here in succession of the first 3 clear frames...
1. The speed so fast that Cannon was totally blurred out rclxub.gif ...really appropriate name for Cannon...
Attached Image
2. Cannon on top of Porkchop, hitting at Porkchop's tail. Porkchop still facing north from its starting position while Cannon is probably already biting at Porkchop's tail while tipping over towards the South(due to the forward force generated by its own incredible long distance jump attack) with its tail high up in the air.
Attached Image
3. The next clear frame clearly showing Cannon holding on to Porkchop's tail. Porkchop is bent L-shape with the bottom of its abdomen showing. Attached Image
How Porkchop got out of this is too fast to see clearly but what can be seen is he somehow spun his way out...

Yeah, seems like a nice place. Pity I have never been there despite spending 5 years in singapore. I will make that one of my destination when i next visit singapore.

I doubt you can get a big male blue jewel as I too have come to know of a place which habours this species. All of the adult males are small with short arms while the females are big. I guess this is the species trait. It is funny that for them to evolve his way means the females actually prefer to mate with smaller males than bigger ones.

Swee swee, man. Great job viper!
Amazing you can find 2 different subspecies from an area of close distance. I have been there twice last year, one company trip and another one bring my family there, but even though I tried flipping leaves, I didn't find any. Also with so many people there at that time, I didn't spent too much time doing so either.

I like the RindamanVsGenjiRd1 clip. Shows the very contrasting style of both spiders, with Rindaman going side to side like our normal fs and Genji going front to back. Like Ura said, very unique style!

How many spiders you caught all together?
Serizawa is normal fs izit? Did you caught it there also?

the blogger said "...I doubt if this hobby is still common among the school children nowadays".
Maybe not as common like last time but there still is. One example is our recent kaki VIPER57 and also an article I linked about school children in Bahau. Last year I was hunting spiders in one of the forest reserves here with my friend, when a group of older teenage malay boys(maybe orang asli decendent) came up to us asking wheather we were hunting cicak tokay. We said no, and we chat a bit, and was told by one of them that he too had "spider king"(meaning fs) but sold some off to younger school children but still keeping some in his house.
Happy to know this hobby still carry on even though not necessarily shared on internet.

I think it is Good to learn more about how the HongKee play/hunt/keep the FS.
I feel that they are very Passionate towards the FS too, not lesser than us for sure.
And i think that People with Common Interest should always interact with each other more! The HongKee are also very Professional in the handling of the FS, can even organise an Event where the Chief(aka Xarms) in one of the Team personally demostrates to the Team members on how to fold the Fighting Platform where this is not seen in SG FS Scene although we also have our Folding of Dry Leaves Home. Thus i really Kudos to them.. notworthy.gif

Bro Ura,
Very interesting bunch you're having now. Looking at Baby Bao, I think he is a normal FS which lost both his arms as either a sling or subadult. Once he moulted to adult, new arms grew in place but smaller and shorter.

I have to agree with Viper the best fs fight recently is
Buaya Spar1 vs Towkay GoodFighter
Damn exciting... and the stage area where they were fighting were smeared with fs bloood...

As for your team I think Rondo vs Flowerpot Chop was really a good fight. It gets my vote. Although I think that clip was a tribute to Rondo, I can see the chop Flowerpot is slightly smaller and gave a really strong fight to the slightly bigger Rondo. But i'm also a bit curious as to which is which...because while the title said that Flowerpot chop is top, it was the bottom spider(Rondo?) that actually did the jump chop right on top of Flowerpot.
