Hi Guys,

I've been recently looking to get a second hand / recond E60. When i was working in Australia, they have alot of useful car inspection services, where if you want to buy a car you can engage their services to inspect the car, take it out for some tests and they will give you a report with recommendations and the overall condition of the car including if needed any immediate repairs that might be needed.

Very useful service. Unfortunately i have been trying to find this service in Malaysia but i can't find it. I guess what my questions is, I've found the particular BMW E60 model, and the dealer and owner (so far two potential sale) has agreed to let me take it out for diagnostic or testing. What is the best place i can bring in the Kuala Lumpur region / Selangor region to check up / inspect the vehicle, prefably experienced in BMW and can let me know the general condition and wear and tear.

I've done some searching on the bmw forums and this forums but so far ppl have recommended workshops for servicing, haven't found any for inspection.

Your help would be greatly appreciated guys

SKD = semi knocked down
CKD = completely knocked down

SKD is supposedly assembled parts that are just screwed together in Malaysia
CKD would be unassembled parts that are assembled then screwed together in Malaysia

My layman knowledge of stuff biggrin.gif

Best to still talk to the owners in the BMW forums. 2nd hand local units are easier since you can (usually) get complete service history which on newer models like the E60 is stored on the key fob. This includes actual mileage and not the one you see on the odometer which could've been tampered.

The authorized service centers (AB, Quill, etc) can check the car and recommend parts that need to be changed. This does include stuff like alignment but I don't think they go to the level of checking emissions for example. You could probably pay them to check for stuff like engine sludge as well although I'm not sure the owner would like what he sees biggrin.gif

Good luck

Thanks guys

I will contact AB or Ingress than to see if they can provide this inspection service. I definately expect a fee and i'm willing to pay for a good inspection. The reason why i'm abit paraniod is back around 12 years ago when i was studying in College, i bought a second hand Mazda lantis and i brought it to a car mechanic that i've been using to inspect. He said no problem besides a few minor cosmetic issues and i purchased it and had the worst time of my life with the car within one month, so many parts all problematic and spent so much on replacement parts all within 2-3months.

Hence i definately don't want a cheap inspection. Hopefully for the rest of you guys buying 2nd hand cars, please pay more to get your car inspected by experienced professionals of the brand, not just any mechanic.

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can spare a few moments to offer their expert advice smile.gif

I'm planning to get a new sedan in the coming months (don't really care about segment), and my budget is RM130k.

Am strongly considering a second-hand BMW, because for my budget it's either that or something with no personality like a Honda Civic.

But I'm not a car enthusiast, so I don't know much about specs. I just want a reasonably powerful, reliable and if possible stylish ride.

Most importantly I don't want to spend TOO much time or money maintaining and repairing the car.

Is a second-hand BMW the right choice for someone like me?

And if so, can anyone recommend any particular model? Based on aesthetics alone I'm really liking the 2006 320i.

Would really appreciate hearing your thoughts, thanks a lot smile.gif

but in the end they all service at ingress.I myself listened to them and bought at ingress, superb service even they jump ship alrdy on next purchase..

for 130k i think you can try 2nd hand bmw grey market..minimum 160k for pre owned premium or unregistered grey market..

However, my heart pounding hard after reading E60 issues at BMWClub's forum.

E39 much better to play with as it can be at 50K only. Plus less problematic. My 2 sen only la. hmm.gif

Chief, any suggestion about diagnose on new purchase. notworthy.gif

Cheers

If youre looking at bigger picture new/pre own BMW at authorized dealer gets you minimum 1year warranty or 3years/60k km warranty,at 60,000km they change almost every single important parts that you need that (maybe) can last another 3 years peace of mind.

grey market is based on the dealer warranty which maybe when they replace they wont use original parts.

But most of bemmers owner will change/upgrade their bmw every 3 years or 60,000km due to almost the same payment for newer and peace of mind.

Older car is okay less electronic for you to handle after service, but do know its gonna get a lil harder for spare part after this and it will be quite expensive than non continental old cars.

you can will never go wrong with BMW if youre seeking for comfortable journey.

Yeah i got that feel from Setapak (our office) to Kuantan approximately 1.15hours (plus minus) only with company car E60. Workmates says i'm slower. Some done better than that too.

I already seen a few used E60 around KL dealers. Price ranging from $135K - $200K++, depend on year & condition. Some even offering 100% loan. I guess price affected by the F10 - the new star in their family.

if your budget only 130k i suggest best to avoid secondhand BMW , especially pre-facelift 320i , i heard a lot problem from the owners , not to mention the cost of maintenance and wear and tear parts are killing you.

lol i did kl-jb 1hour 30mins and i can still turn around to talk with my friend..thats how comfortable and speed is for bmw

price should be 150-200k F10 raising up some problem theres a weird sound on the right front side..so e60 will still be the lead for now..because german engineer said the sound comes with the car :s which made every f10 owner screaming on top of their tongue..
