Dun say like that lorr...

I know a person who are living in a very normal house with normal salary (about rm4000 household together with his wife) but are driving a damn good looking 350Z. Don't know how he is going to survive on the maintenance and road tax but the car has been around him for almost 6 months now. His 350Z is a second hand unit as well.

His wife wants to ride on a fast car so much that they decided to cut on other unimportant stuff and focus their salary money on the car and their house payment. Every night only his main bedroom are lights up. I used to say to my wife.. "geez.. this family has no life.." but then they seem to be enjoying the way they lead their life now.. to the limit.

The 350Z though are only out on Saturday and Sunday. The rest of the week.. they got their Perodua Viva to the rescue. What a pleasant life they have.. my great neighbour.

Cool huh?? brows.gif

So don't say like that boss.. there are some people who are willing to save up and let go of other stuff deemed unimportant as long as they get to chase the dream they have desired for so long.

how do u know their household income only rm4k? MLM are everywhere now tongue.gif

The husband is a new fresh-grad teacher with salary about RM2000. The wife is a teacher as well with price range I believe to be RM2000 something.

That's why I said Rm4000.. tongue.gif

Dunno if they are doing MLM though.. they never try to push anything under my throat yet.. but at night they really save a lot of money.. never ever switch on the lights except for the main bedroom. That's why I said pity them family.. no life.. huhu..

Congratz to TS.. just go for it if you really want the car... wink.gif

Actually teachers do make a lot of money nowadays. Remember they work only half day. During the evening or at noght, most open private classes or tuitions, they can make a lot of money by doing this. No kidding.
They also have the free time to do side business some more. Dont underestimate people's wealth by just judging from their main occupation ler. Hardwork pays off no matter what job u do.

the S2 should be outside your budget of rm150k.

The entry level S2 (new) with 1zz engine is a shade >200k
the lotus elise S2 with 2zz ge engine was launched at >rm400 then, i suppose they are rare thus "willing buyer, willing seller" comes into consideration. However all is not lost, Lotus malaysia brought in a few special model (Exige with supercharger) to be be sold in malaysia >RM350k +- (new). This may force the "earlier 2zz elise" to be sold lower to the marketplace. but its so few in the market, it will be waiting forever in the hope to spot one in the classifieds.

The possibility of seeing any S2 models (1zz) in the range of RM170-180k is a higher chance. 2zz elise S2? doubt it.

I know you are gutted knowing how & why prices seem high, again the rarity of such made the owners who know value.

however, you never know. I was once offered a lotus S1 10 years ago with only 4000km on the clock ! the owner had over 10 plus cars & the lotus is hardly driven.
Large size person & a bit not quite youthful to get in & out of the lotus.

sometimes, you might get just jet a "hailey's" shot, & these are usually snapped up quickly.

Added on May 4, 2010, 3:53 pmactually padanKia u dont know anything, why dont u troll somewhere else k. I open the thread asking for nicely. I didnt expect any rude answers from u.
Im a Doctor, a general surgeon to be specific and I work with the goverment so i dont have enough to buy a new 1. Why Would i buy a new one coz most ot these types of cars, usually for used car have low milage and are still in tip top condition. I dont mind recond or used car. I wanted an elise for its Handling, weekend sports car,not to show off or anything.
I may not make as much money as you do, but plz dont look down on others.

Ignore that troll. He's not worth your time arguing. Have you considered other alternative like an 2nd gen Miata/MX-5?. Apparently British considered as spiritual successor of Lotus Elan.

FrostLance, since my post in reply to pandankia was inevitably removed bcause of his suspension. I wanted to add that the toyota engine in the lotus isnt as expensive as some claimed. yes upgrade aftermarket mods are, (so does any prestige marques) but the oil filter isnt rm280. (it shouldn't be & while i can understand lotus malaysia makes up a little then what you can get outside...a normal oil service is not rm5k & should not be. I cannot claim otherwise if the other supercar marques are so.

the elise S2 is a good choise. the new Lotus S (1zz fe) that replaces all the S1 lotus as the entry lotus (with rover engine). it can get a little confusing with all the lotus abbreviation n noughts.

wo maddriver, ur post sounds attractive,
but i dont really get it.
what did u actually do to boost the perf?
enlighten me please~~~ normal eng.

so, frost, do roger me if uve found something unresistable.
i also wanna buy this car.
maybe if we buy 2 (u 1, me 1) can get cheaper.
biggrin.gif

i went to the proton R3 division and have a look at the cars there.
they are selling 2nd hand elise s1 (rover eng) with proper service history around rm105K.

im more attracted to elise s2 (with the chrome plating at the rear exhaust channel) (i think, they call it mach 2) but, it is around >RM200K.
so, for a weekend fun car, i havent reach that level la..

yea, ive done a lot of research on this car, and i could say that its one of the best sport car to own in malaysia. Im kinda in love with it actually.

The reason for that :
1) The Price. Even for the new one, the price is just superb! Even tho its specs on paper isnt as impresive as say a GTR or a Ferrari, but ive seen on videos, even on top gear where on track, given the high power to weight ratios, could easily catch up to cars 10 times as expensive on track!

2)For a sport car, The Fuel Consumption is AMAZING. 30 miles per gallon on highway, and one of my frens that owns this, well he actually uses it as a daily car , well he said if ur careful enough and drive smart enough u could get in the high 30s MPG. An FQ400 Misubishi EVO is 15 MPG on highway. Insane.

3) Handling. As most car reviewers said, its ONE OF THE BEST HANDLING CAR in the world. nuff said.

4)Maintainence - Most people claim its very cheap given the toyota engine. Still need to do some research on this smile.gif

5)Good Reliability. Unlike most Continental cars. smile.gif

6) Road Tax - LOL. Its a 1.8L sports car. What more could i say. Only beaten by Mazda RX-8 tongue.gif (but FC-wise, Elise pwnd rx8 kaw kaw)

Is there such a facelift? S1to S2? I know my friend converted his S2 into Exige!! Very Nice. If there are such facelift from S1- S2 plz inform me!!! S1 can easily be bought about 100k! With about 50k Mileage!

S2-S2 not sure but S1 is excellent car to mod
You can drop a K20A in and get a killer car brows.gif
And as for maintenance,it is same as Toyota 1ZZ/2ZZ thumbup.gif
Aka it is not high at all
This is very excellent car,it is probably one of the fastest real world condition car

I thought the S2 also use the 1zz/2ZZ engine

Series 2

Production 2002–present
Engine(s) 1.8 L Rover K-Series I4
1.8 L Toyota 1ZZ-FE I4[6]
1.8 L Toyota 2ZZ-GE I4[7]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Elise
*
No no,Series 2 use both Rover K engine and Toyota 1ZZ/2ZZ engine
The earlier one with Rover K and later one with Toyota 1ZZ/2ZZ
As for exact model year,i have no idea
Perhaps pay lotus malaysia a visit smile.gif

bro, when u went to r3 division?
the s1 is wat color?
*
i went there like 3-4weeks ago
its yellow color.

they also offer me 2-eleven, haha, make fun of me.. damn!
other car i saw there is ALOT of evora (newly purchased, bring in by lotus malaysia to the malaysian buyer)
exige, exige 260 cup.

btw, they said that the rover engine is more RAW compared to toyota because its lotus who made the rover engine for rover company.
they sell their engineering.

so, simply said, lotus cars with rover engine is purely lotus!
idk if they said this because they wanna clear up their elise s1 edition

maddriver, frostlance and lilfreak, thx for info!

if you guys plan to do a lil visit for further research/study, please do update here beforehand k.
maybe we can go there together. smile.gif

p/s: have u guys have a peek at Tesla Roadster and Model S? biggrin.gif

the rover engine is 'lighter' but its 1.6L. engine mechanical parts were very cheap & easily available in UK. ONe of the better solution to weekend track day enthusiast in UK. (U Play & U pay - easy on your pocket)

The toyota engines are a lot more durable, newer in design (over the rover)
both the 1zz & 2zz > K series rover engines. do a bit of massage on the engine, they are livelier & just as fun. its just that most malaysian S2 elise dont get enough access to those juicy bits as easily as the overseas chaps with the exception to tengku djan's elise S2.

Evora? man they get the new toyota 2GR engines. (goggle them).

I know one reason Lotus chose Toyota engine is to pass US emission regulation to sell it there after the demise of Rover. Lotus Europa on the other hand uses GM engine.

lotus S (1zz in S2 shape) 2nd hand is still holding price well cause it's so few. there is someone thinking of selling it, friend of mine considering it. Even the Lotus Elise S2 (non supercharged) is harder to source.

if you really want a used one. best is to approach OKB (lotus msia). he usually has the tabs of owners buying/selling.
