Oral is the only way thats most effective (I think) !!

Type of medicine depends - theres a few (different worms will need different types same as dosage )
Best to consult a vet - size of tortoise beside sp all need adjusted dosage !!
Are you over-doing it ? Even if vitamin or Calcium(REPTILES dont utilise such stuff as easily as us , mammals ) I also wont recommend you do it every day , more a type of drugs  !!

Do you worm yourself every meal ie 3-5 times a day ? (I think most human do it once or twice a year )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Care to show which type of de-worming powder ? So as to determine which type of drug used - or maybe I can help determine dosage

I prefer liquid as dosage easier to calculate and with accuracy (With powder how do you weigh to micro-gram...........)

Cheers

here is the dr vellayan advice to my newly bought tortoise at that time because their poo full of oxyurid and ameba even can see with bare eye...smile.gif

"powder (mebendazole) is 2 pinch (within 2 small finger tips) ONCE a day for my 5" leos and 1 pinch for my 3" stars. But my star seems dun wan to eat all vege if i add in the powder de-wormer so dr provide me liquid de-wormer for my star but not sure the name and the dosage as below:-

the liquid is (0.2ml) TWICE a day for my 3" stars...

Continue for a week time stop 5 days then continue for another week "

I really follow his advice and at least now i din see worms in their poo but under microscope not sure:).

cheers.

OK then since under Vet instruction - what more can I say !!

But in forum pls make yourself clear IF NOT some novice will just take that piece of advice ( just one small little pinch for my 5" leo on their meal once a day) as a sure must and blindly follow !!
Cheers
*
okok.. will clarify more next time:)

But i did check with my Vet on normal treatment he also said same dosage but just do it for a week time enough every 6 months. Anyway if possible i also wish to use the natural way which is pumpkin seed.. for those would like to try on drug de-wormer please bring your tort and the drug to get advice from vet.. Mayb different species will need different dosage:)..

i love turtle. use to have a pair of RES. i admit i was a lousy owner, didnt knew a thing about taking care of them, even the pet shop salesgirl told me they should be ok in a small bowl. looking back, i feel so sorry for them.  im planning to get turlte now, but this time im going to get proper tank with basking area n UV lamp. good thing i can get all the info from this thread.

for any pets, we should gather info before getting the animal.

sorry to hear about your tort kenn91. may she rest in peace.

hello. I'm currently trying to decide if I should get a start tortoise but since it is a protected species, what is the process we have to go through to own one? one of my source said that we just need a photostat copy of the dealer's permit/license to sell them and the receipt for purchase another told me that each tort should come with it's own birth certificate endorsed by the ministry in the country of origin...
*
Hi Sherry86, to my understand dealer can't get any permit to import star tortoise nowadays. If they do have then mayb you can try to call up PERHILITAN (http://www.wildlife.gov.my/) to ask whether or not you still able to apply the license for keeping star tortoise with the dealer valid import paper before you purchase. Hope it helps.

For toby ikano i remember they have 3 size for the basking lamp casing, S, M, L. The bulb itself i think theirs is until 50W - 75W only... if u need bigger bulb or big infrared bulb you can get it from xortic ranch... u will b happy to visit xortic ranch bcoz they really have alot of exotic pet over there:)

Yup... it's kinda fun and excited when ppl start to discuss and exchange rather then keep on "taking" but not "giving back". smile.gif

So, i think the next we should dive into are food...
lotsa ppl keep on struggling "should i feed this? should i feed that?"

I ever saw an forum was asking... "can i feed hard boiled eggs to my tortoise"?

and another forumer replied.... What do you think? and how the tortoise going to find hard boiled eggs when they are in the wild? and who is going to boil for them ? it almost laugh my head off.....

anyway...yeah.. i'm bad smile.gif i used to as stupid question too.....ok...

well.....
so, guys, share what you feed ur tort? and how frequent you feed them?

Yo nice tort n husbandry...

Just wonder how you normally clean their poo poo since is grass field? Worry if not completely clean then it smell and neighbour complain.
If raining will them get cold?
Did you provide heat lamp?
Since they always contact with ground then will need to deworm more frequent?

I plan to put my tort outdoor but i have above concerns:).

Thank you:D

Don't be afraid to try new method !! Never try never know . But some sp ( dry grassland ie leopard or sulcata ) especially new import should never be put outdoor Straightaway ( our high humid , prolong rain ..... ) will bring about RNS easily .

Need anything just ask ( no question too noob if enough research done )
below are some I heard over the years ( q I chose not to answer or comment )
- desert sp thus no need to drink water
- desert night v cold thus can stay in my aircond room
- lettuce are best food
........ Etc
*
Haha... hmmm mine is leopard n star... currently stay indoor for about a year + already. Even indoor sometimes they also attack by RNS. If cannot put straight outdoor then can i like put them outside of the house but with awning on top which they wont able to get wet plus heating lamp:)? That's my initial plan:).

Cement can be bad at times ( coldness from below can hinder with digestion )
Try jail them in cages ( roof , heat lamp .... Etc ) for 6 to 12 mths before introduce to outdoor 100% !!

Cheers
*
okie dokie.... will DIY the cage and put heating lamp on top and bottom of the cage is grass field... hope everything can be done in May or Jun and show u all photo hee:)... tq for the tips:)
