how heavy are you? I suggest you use the rough calculation of ball weight.. the one that is suggested by neutral88.. 10% of your body weight will equal to your ball weight.. i didont follow this last time tho.. I was 60kg last time which equal to 132lbs.. but I was throwing 14lbs ball... hehehehe.. its good for starting if your dont know what to throw.. slowly but surely you will train urself to hold the weight.. last time when I started I use to get those 9lbs balls and throw.. then when I bought my very first ball at 10lbs.. it wasnt enough.. I kept getting very disappointed because it just doesnt make my score high.. in the end I bought another ball.. jump straight to 14lbs because that time my friends told me 14lbs is the minimum weight for a hook ball to play properly.. peer pressure.. but it paid off.. it took me few weeks to get used to the weight and bowling got interesting..

there are three types of balls.. plastic, urethane and reactive.. all these are the coverstocks.. all have cores..
ebonite tornado, brunswick slingshot, powergroove are reactive balls.. powergroove got urethane version also.. ebonite maxim is a plastic ball..
from the list you choose.. I suggest brunswick slingshot because it has a strongest reaction compared to others.. good coverstock also.. nice for you to learn how to hook..
ebonite maxim.. good for you to play straight ball only.. good for spareball because it goes straight..
urethane is between reactive and plastic.. urethane balls are usually similiar to plastic balls but have a bigger core inside them.. the surface of the ball does soak up a little bit of oil as comapred to plastic(which doesnt soak up oil at all) but it wont be as aggressive as reactive balls..

ofcourse its better.. but can you manage the hook or not? if it hits dry or medium oily lane you'll suffer.. you will suffer also if the lane is not freshly oiled..

u leaving pins on the left? Im assuming pin 7.. you should be happy because light balls usually leave pin 5(the middle one)..
its better to buy new.. 14lbs is a good start.. but u could go for 15lbs.. its just roughly 600grams difference between 14lbs and 15lbs.. LOL! my advice.. go with 14lbs.. because thats my favourite weight.. although it doesnt hit the pins as hard as 15lbs but it gives me a wonderful and consistant hook.
new ball is better because its new.. bowling ball tend to die.. die as in the surface does not suck up oil anymore and does not grip the lanes(you could use ur hands to feel a new reactive ball.. it feels sticky right? thats a good surface..).. when the ball dont grip the lane it hits much lighter.. believe it or not.. the balls do tend to grip the pins and spin them around to give you a much harder hit.. its not my own theory.. try throw ur ball with no roll and with roll to one single pin.. the ball with roll will fling the pin much harder..
so 2nd hand balls.. though some balls may still be alive and kicking.. you could buy a dead ball which will be extremely hard to play with because you will either get inconsistant ball reaction or no hook.. thats why ball maintanence should be the top priority for any bowlers who has a ball..

want to buy mine? Ebonite Magic Touch.. not high performance lah.. for medium to heavy oil.. plugged once.. erm.. had it for not even 1 month.. getting closer to 1 month..
why I want to sell? I figured out that the ball doesnt suit me.. thinking of going for a sanded ball.. RM500.. bowlzone selling RM599.. hehe.. 15lbs.. well maintained.. always after playying I clean the ball..
