Z has been update on Sonystyle Malaysia, along with L series. Pretty expensive for Z since its the high end spec only available + PMD.

To me, the design is just love it or hate it. Its like an hybrid design cue from X series. The PMD is a plus, but if the gpu is upgradeable its would be like more plus. (already like the eGPU approach on previous gen VAIO Z but must be use with external display unlike the PMD)

How do you like it? It still good looking notebook.

To me dont disable below to ensure the hotkey etc is still functioning.
1. VAIO Event Service
2. VAIO Power Management
3. VAIO Setting Utility
4. VAIO Smart Network (iinm, this is like a toolbar on the taskbar for switching on and off the wireless connectivity and quick setup on LAN networks, including bluetooth connection)
5. Sony Shared Library

Not sure since i havent send it just for cleaning purpose. But you can try inquiry the service centre.

The indicator will change if you start doing something, but yeah, thats some insane hours if that really hours when working with VAIO Z (e.g. web browsing, light documentation task)

You may also check the setting in Catalyst Control Centre.
To have you enable the gpu switching manually, choose the second option from this screenshot:


Then you can manually switch the graphic from this screenshot:


And of course, the application based approach will be disabled.

Some hardcore solution:
BIOS update from CA (newer batch)/CB series. This is risky, i wont recommend it unless you know what you are doing and deal with.

looks fine to me if you targeting the 15in" notebook with hybrid graphic. reasonable weight too. for some mild/moderate gaming and multimedia purpose, it will serve well.

Yep, its unique now.
I guess the UMPC dead due to ultrabook/tablet/slate era.
No vendor seems put an interest on UMPC. Best they can give by producing the hybrid tablet like Asus Transformer for full size keyboard. The rest just tablet, tablet and tablet with touchscreen / stylus tech like Samsung Galaxy Note.

the X series is unfortunately is dead (again). No refresh done to the X series.
I can say that X series is the same as other netbook in the market for its processing power. Thing that distinguish it is the sleek looks, the screen color quality, the weight and the carbon fiber material.
With the introduction of ultrabook by Intel, we can only hope that Sony will revive back this series.

You may try to send it to any qualified service centre. I suspect the ventilation holes and fan is full of dust.
Btw, i have cousin that have this notebook before it get stolen. It is indeed have some issue on ventilation/fan. Sent to service centre once for cleaning and stuff, works until its gone to thief's hand this year..

Other solution, maybe you can try System Restore. Select date when that problem is not occured. Worst case is to format back to factory setup. I hope you already create the VAIO Recovery Disc.

Sorry cant really help on this. Try all the alternative to overcome this issue to know whether its software related or hardware related issue.

Have you test how many hours/mins the battery will survive? Test the battery first.

Then try calibrate the battery.

If everything failed, you have to change to new battery. Should around 200 ~ 350 bucks like my C series which I have changed once. If out of stock, they (sony service centre) will order for ya.

Should be fine for that purpose.

That HP is better buy.
For extra 100 bucks, its spec much better (i5, Win 7 Home Premium, AMD GPU).

But then, the Sony you mention comes with free Cybershot camera. Which model for that camera anyway?
If its value is above 100bucks and you do really need the camera besides buying the notebook, go for it.

Anyway, good luck purchasing. Hope you can decide which best for you.

try disabling the unnecessary startup item first. Click Start, type msconfig at search bar first.
Adding RAM will help you to multitask. As for bootup, i'm not sure, its more rely on your HDD speed.

But yea, just max out the RAM. the price is affordable still.

Did you manage to create the Recovery Disk first before start using the laptop? Its crucial to create and have the recovery disk so you can revert to factory installed.

Try check Task Manager and find any application that use heavy processing task.
Weird that the GPU temp increase without video related process running. Something trigger the task. Is the fan running perfectly?


Should be no problem I believe.
Backup and have recovery disk before attempt..just in case.

Something not connect properly on the lcd? Not sure.. Better send to service centre at Curve Damansara.

Personally, I prefer the previous gen Z than the current Z..

Promotion on SA series:

The ram price is pretty much affordable unless you are asking for 1x8gb ram. Depend on which type of ram you want to upgrade. Again, for example roughly Kingston KVR 4gb DDR3 x1 range around 70rm.

Try check the startup item, Click Start, type msconfig at Search bar. Find out any unnecessary startup item if you want to disable them. You may need to google out what the item do if you are not sure.

Not sure, I cant answer this as I never own any white VAIO. But I believe the glossy surface usually hard to turn yellow, unless its stain/dirt from palm.

VPCCA15FG - C Series
VPCSB36FG - S Series

Spec wise, both pretty much almost the same. Whats make them difference is the S series are it pretty much lightweight 1.7kg (the C is 2.4kg), having 13" screen (the C series is 14") tho sacrifice the GPU performance a lil bit due to slim profile it have (the C series is using AMD 6630).

If you want something lightweight yet doesn't compromise much on performance value, S series pretty much a good buy.

And as usual, pay a visit to sonystyle store and experienced yourself. Touch them, and play with them, then decide.

Maybe you can buy from Singapore.

The promo is pretty much good offer. i7, AMD Radeon 6630 1gb.
i7? Depend on your work task. But, I'll say get the i7 unless you are type of changing notebook annually or every 2 years.
The ram? The 6gb model (4gb + 2gb) will have 4gb soldered on motherboard. You can still upgrade to 8gb, replacing the 2gb in slot with 4gb stick.

Also, update driver might help.

Its in Power Profile. Check the one with your current power profile, for instance VAIO Power Management.
Sorta like below. Usually its accessible in VAIO Control Center -> Power Management -> Power Options -> Advanced


Maybe CoolerMaster U3. If too huge for notebook, find the 14" one (U2 version). The U3 is for 17" above.
Position of fan is adjustable and you also can add the fan if theres space.

Yes, it is upgradeable, such HDD, RAM. No other things except those mention is upgradeable.

About Z series:
Yes, currently only VAIO Z. Use to have 2 models made in Japan which are Z series and TT series.
Other is made in China.
