I always dreamed to have v-taper body. I'm focus to strength training (although I'm not that strong... lol)
[attachmentid=2176417] [attachmentid=2176418] [attachmentid=2176419] [attachmentid=2176421] I thought to post my back as I had significant development in that area due to my weighted chin up. The snake running at my back there is definitely from deadlift... This post has been edited by hoxy: Apr 24 2011, 08:08 PM |

vbs, it will be great if I can see your video... how much do you weigh and your height? How much can you squat and deadlift 1RM?
Will you please comment on wide stance vs narrow stance? I personally dont do wide stance by virtue that in real world, if I'm going to squat, it will always be narrow stance (taking a bath, using "gayung, taking water from baldi"). It seems that with wider stance, you get more weight, but sacrifice on hip mobility, hence difficulty on going parallel or beyond... But still, I do narrow squat just to mimic how I will squat in real world application (picking a pen, etc2). This post has been edited by hoxy: May 16 2011, 10:40 PM |

vbs, ok ok... obviously my squat knowledge is shallow compared to everyone else...
a) My hand far apart, hence cant fully tension my back b) I point my foot straight, should point it slightly outward to make me able to contract glute even more c) Pointing my elbow outward, should pointing straight down, care to explain why? I suspect more body tension by keeping elbow close to body... I found below interesting links: http://www.wannabebig.com/training/bodybui...know-the-squat/ » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « http://www.exrx.net/ExInfo/Squats.html » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Seriously... this kind of analysis makes squat complicated! I want to ask about grip, what do you recommend? Gripping loosely? False grip (grip without thumb)? Or grip so tight? I believe from your latest video, seems like you using false grip, care to explain why? I'm a Pavel guy, if anything... I'm pretty sure Pavel will recommend for tight grip. It helps to tighten the whole body. BTW, up until now, my 1RM is only ~70kg (77.5kg, but I suspect not nearly parallel enough) at 52kg BW, 1.66cm. Relatively low weight compared to all others here... no video k... Now you know how weak I am... I'm still going to provide my useless review of your squat (cant believe I do this). 1) Your knees cave out when descend, when you ascend, knees cave in 2) You out of balance after completing a rep, I think you dont maintain proper tension on the body after rep completion. I'm very sure I have the same problem 1), 2) above, and on top of the existing problem a)~c). Lots of adjustment need to make... I post your video one more time below for easy browsing. |

Wow... that is impressive. In real life you must look quite muscular... compact yet powerful.
Keep at it... and you will join the 1K club... I'm not sure what it is actually... You are quite near to the advance level for deadlift (as defined in ExRx)... I'm impressed http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/...tandardsKg.html |

Haha gtoforce... I like your comments...
Then again, not everyone wants to be big (that is me) and into bodybuilding... I'm personally addicted to achieve one-arm chinup, small guy like me is especially tailor made for this goal... There must be someone big out there who are promoting powerlifting/bodybuilding for Malaysia. As long as someone promoting it, I'm fine with it... Some update on my gripper CoC #1 (140lb of force to close) training... I have a very small hand (size 6.5~6.8 inch, probably 6.7 inch). Right hand can close by now... [attachmentid=2231426] [attachmentid=2231428] Left hand is getting stronger... cannot close it yet. [attachmentid=2231430] Feel like left hand will get a full close anytime soon... Now that I have recovered my forearm and improve my grip, I want to start on weighted chin up again, last time I stop at 35kg (I think). The absent of weighted chin up training has bring my performance down. I have tried these 2 days and I can do 20kg 3 reps easily. Hope to break my plateau, last time I cant break 35kg at 52kg bodyweight just because of my grip... Will ramp up again~ This post has been edited by hoxy: May 23 2011, 10:46 PM |

@VBS, that is Ivanko plate. I wish I have Eleiko plates... would be super nice, might bring the plates together to my bed also... haha!
I am trying to improve my grip. I am considering to pursue rafter pull up, I have to set my sight on increasing my pinch plate ability to 25~30kg. With my weight 52~53kg, I can foresee that it is the minimum requirement. Now thinking on the design for my homemade rafter pull up apparatus |

[attachmentid=2261266] Experimenting with one arm deadlift (suitcase deadlift) today... Feels nice, work the grip quite a bit, exposing apparent wrist adduction weakness (I think continuous training this way will help bridge the gap also). |

@VBS, my home gym is still at initial stage. I wish I have fatgripz or axle bar (I dont think I will ever own this bar, but it will be very nice if I have it). I have standard barbell which can load up until 95kg (including bar). Olympic can load up until ~135kg (including bar).
My next wish list will be: 1) 2x20kg (hopefully my final olympic barbell plate, means my target deadlift will be region of 180kg, think long term!) 2) 24kg and 32kg kettlebell, 3) FatGripz 4) Rolling thunder 5) CoC #3 6) Rubber mat 7) Vulcan gripper I train my grip because it is my limitting factor on progressing with deadlift and weighted chin up. Without grip, everything falls apart, plateau cant be broken. Recently also I begun to use chalk for my lift and I will attest that the grip is phenomenal. I read that it is common to gain 30lb in deadlift by lifting with chalk. I think my recent plateau breaking contribute solely to chalk and grip. I use hook grip everytime I do deadlift... now that I getting use to hook grip I think it also somehow contribute... Yesterday I make a new PR of 102.5kg. Today just now, my raw deadlift (pronated, hook grip with chalk) new PR is 105kg. I wish my elbow area, tricep (lateral), and forearm already fully recovered, else I can show my weighted chin up. I'm slowly climbing back to my previous record of 35kg. Last week I manage to chin up 30kg, so maybe later I will post an updated picture on this. For now, I can share my weighted pull up of 20kg. My weight today is 52.5kg, so this means I have entered to 2xBW deadlift. So happy~ [attachmentid=2271767] [attachmentid=2271768] This post has been edited by hoxy: Jun 13 2011, 07:57 PM |

Thanks guys! There are a lot of other much stronger guys than me even in this forum, the strongest ones I think dont even bother to sniff the forum...
@jackwylde, I'm not sure whether you are more into strength training or bodybuilding. I'm more into getting strong so I try to refer back to below link to measure my progress, I think aiming for intermediate level is quite an achievement in itself. http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/...tandardsKg.html [attachmentid=2272607] Testing your true 1RM sometimes will give you a better gauge on how much weight you can try to lift with 3RM, 5RM and so on. You can try below link, from calculation it seems that your calculated 1RM is 79kg. I hope this is helpful... http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/OneRepMax.html For me, knowing your grip fails after 5RM shows actually you have the grip strength (specifically called "open hand crush grip"), just your supporting grip (gripping for long time) is not enough. I think there is no shame on that... I think I have weak support grip myself. If you can lift it one time, you have the grip power, if you cant grip it for a prolong time, you just dont have the endurance part of it. This post has been edited by hoxy: Jun 14 2011, 06:05 AM |
