Got myself an EVF VF-2.. 2 days ago.. i would say well worth.. after using VF-2, i never use the LCD anymore to take photos except for picture preview.. I dont know wat to say but when you look into it, its like another different world soooooooooooooo pweeettttyyyyyyyyyy.. is all i can say. But this is an expensive upgrade due to E-PL1's sucky LCD with only 230k pixel and VF-2 its with 1,440,000 pixel if im not mistaken..

will post a picture of the VF-2 with the camera with it soonish !
*
yeah, 230k is a bit on the low side with mostly dSLR LCD at higher resolution...
congratz on the VF-2..

No doubt the LCD for EP series cam really sucks, can't get use to it after been using my D90's 920k lcd, wanna check for proper focus also hard sad.gif
*
Yah, but for me, it does just fine... but could be better... but this only apply to those who want to manual focus. For AF, I believe LCD resolution does
not really matter. Unless you want to check result... sweat.gif

QUOTE(davidmak @ Jul 13 2010, 11:12 PM)
I think my E-PL1 is ready for prime time now biggrin.gif. Fixed a few issues after several testing. First it was the focusing with F1.7 and second I notice a bright pixel on normal pictures. Even shooting a dark frame reveal some 'spots'. Fortunately the pixel mapping is useful here. I did one round and they are now all compensated and no longer show in my shots.

For those who plan to use this utility, it is in the custom menu and at the last section called Utility. Remember that pixel mapping is irreversible so don't do it everyday tongue.gif. Olympus seems to recommend using it like once or twice a year.

By the way, does anyone have any knowledge about lens back/front focusing on a contrast based AF? Does it apply for CDAF or this is only a phase detect AF related issue?
*
Wow, got dead pixel.. hmm.gif yeah, the pixel mapping is quite nice. No need to send back to Olympus to do it.

Not sure about front or back focussing thing. I thought its related to calibration issue and if that so, it should apply to both. But I could be wrong sweat.gif

Seldom using the Di466 especially after getting my 20mm

Another reason, it looks harsh since I still can't find diffuser for it.
*
why not you bounce it off the wall? still harsh? how about setting it to lower the flash power? tongue.gif tongue.gif

Hi all,

When shooting with my EP2 today. Suddenly I noted that the usual in focus 'beep' sound is not there. Power off and on few times and even switched to different lens, still same. Anyone had this experience before or have I accidentally disable anything?
*
How about doing a full camera reset? It fix my previous issue...kekeke..

Here's a shot took today at the Butterfly Park. Straight from the camera JPEG but resized. I also included a 100% shot of the wings to show the sharpness of the Lumix G 20mm F1.7.

By the way, its really hard to focus small objects with the E-PL1. Anyone has better ideas on focusing with the big box?

nice nice... very sharp...

I think its hard to focus with big box... there's no help unless Olympus change the firmware...

so we have to live with it sad.gif

bought my GF1 last week combo with 20mm pancake.hehe.anyway,is there any different if i use normal SD card or Extreme version ?
*
check the speed... if the speed same, then there's no different. Those are name only. You
have to know the READ and Write speed...

Wuahaha is right... get at least Class 6... I use lower class before and my movie taking with 720p also
not smooth... so get Class 6...

QUOTE(yinyum @ Jul 14 2010, 09:43 PM)
the 14-45mm lens? this is not the pancake lens right? becoz the sales person actually recommended me to get the pancake lens. But if i go for EPL-1, the price of paying for GF1 can allow me to go for EPL-1 twin lens package sad.gif
*
I recommend either GF1 or E-PL1....

14-45mm is zoom lens. Means it go from wide to tele.
During group photography, you might need wide (14) so that more people can be inside the photo.
Sometimes you can zoom to 45mm...
This means, this lens is versatile to use. But in low light, meaning indoor, it'll not perform good.
Meaning, you might get dark, noisy or blur photo.

Pancake is 20mm f/1.7. f/1.7 means its bright. So you can use it indoor. Most photographer will
want a bright lens. You can take photo indoor with your friend and family and the photo come out
will be bright and fantastic.

With GF-1, using 20mm will not be stabilize. With E-PL1, using 20mm, it'll be awesome because it
is stabilize. What this means is, compare to GF-1, photo taken with E-PL1 will be brighter with
20mm lens.

But you cannot bundle E-PL1 with 20mm pancake. If you buy single lens E-pL1 = RM2200 + pancake (RM1300) = RM3500
which is very expensive. if you want cheaper route, get GF-1 with 20mm but it is not stabilized.

If you get GF-1 with 14-45mm, it'll be more versatile. So you choose between better versatility of
14-45mm or better indoor photo taking ability. I'll choose better photo taking ability anytime.
So GF-1 with Pancake is my recommendation. The other thing is, the pancake is smaller than the 14-45mm...!!!!!

Of course, if you can go for E-PL1 + Panasonic pancake, it'll be awesome. But.... some people find
the autofocus unsatisfactory like davidmak. That's why he think GF-1 is better.. lol...

To me, best combo will be E-PL1 with 20mm f/1.7... it'll be low light combo...

I also suggest you take a look at Sony NEX. Try m43 and Sony NEX and decide your self.

Go to shop. Try the autofocus with different lens. See if they are fast to take photo.

But a lot of people swear by Olympus E-PL1 because the color of the picture it take out of camera is beautiful
without any processing. If you don't want use photoshop, E-PL1 is the better camera to go with. If you can
get E-PL1 with Olympus 17mm f/2.8 also not bad. I dunno if there's such combo or not.

Lol just buy EP2 with 17mm F2.8 or GF1 with 20mm F1.7
*
well, I wouldn't recommend E-P2.. it has no built in flash.. it's very important.. maybe not to you... but
really, its important to the rest of us.... sweat.gif

QUOTE(davidmak @ Jul 14 2010, 11:00 PM)
Actually coming from personal experience, a compact camera user may be more accustomed to zoom. If you give them a prime lens, they may find it inadequate. Also that F1.7 with the thin DOF may spell trouble if he/she is not familiar with focusing. Of course normal shots would do just fine but if you get close it may be potentially a problem.

The 14-45mm kit is also very fast which may present a good upgrade for the user. Shutter speed shouldn't be a problem because compact cameras aren't fast anyway haha!
*
I don't think she'll get close like you. Coming from compact camera, I assume she just want to take casual photo
like party and go to holiday. Pancake will do fine because its small.

Don't need to spend a lot of money on very fast memory card la, just buy a class 4 SHDC will do, u can't do 8fps burst shooting RAW anyway so why do u even need very fast SDHC? Just buy more capacity will do, my class 10 SDHC is always on my D90 while my toshiba class 4 SDHC on my EP2 smile.gif
*
Have you try to record movie extensively (more than few minutes)?

I think Class 6 is smoother in this case. Although Class 4 maybe still can handle. But Class 2 definitely not. It'll
stop recording after 1 minute if my memory serve me right.

you can't blame us bro. If we buy m43, means we're majority casual shooter coming frm
compact camera.

Probably you can be like samurail33t and post some Post process raw shot from GF-1!!!

Thank you for ur long and detailed reply! actually i asked my fren to quoted me the best price for GF1 + pancake lens is RM3100 (cash), then E-PL1 twin lens package is RM2880 (cash). If E-PL1 single lens plus pancake lens is RM3500, then i can just go for this combo lor. But now i got another model on mind after i saw the SONY web page, the NEX 5 / NEX 3 good? The body is so small but lens is bigger than body, the proportion really so weird lah. But i wont mind if it captures very nice DSLR quality pictures
*
good also... see which one you like...

although we all M43 user, we want you to make your own decision. Both E-PL1, GF-1 and NEX image quality is good. You can't go wrong with NEX or m43.
