You can run other stress testing programs like OCCT, IntelBurnTest, LinX and HCI memtest to ensure that you have covered more areas that might cause instability. Even then, you're still not guaranteed 100% stability but your chances are only higher. Only Intel knows whether the CPU is 100% stable overclocked but they definitely wouldn't publish their custom written stress testing software to the public.

4.2GHz is pretty mild, you shouldn't encounter any issues. If there is any instability and it BSODs, write down the BSOD code and check for it. Most of the time it needs you to increase the voltage for more stability.

hey man thanks for ur good answer. Will have a go at IBT, OCCT and all. Thought before if i pass the Prime95 means its all go. blush.gif not planning to push my chip to its max capability though. 4.2GHz for heavy loads for me is good enough.

QUOTE(OC4/3 @ Aug 5 2012, 03:43 PM)
My usual procedure for testing an OCed system:
1.)Set Overclock Setting to the desired setting
2.)Use IBT 3 Loops,set to (Total memory GB-1GB,eg:4GB-1GB=3GB)
3.)Make sure it pass
4.)Than lower vcore
5.)Final setting run 20 loops IBT with same memory setting as 3 loops

If this pass, the system is quite stable already

will try IBT, thanks for ur advice man. biggrin.gif

Hi, i would like to ask did anyone tried ASUS P8Z77-M and Intel Xeon E3-1230v2? Plan to upgrade my rig based on this built. Thanks  laugh.gif

this might be a late reply, but P8Z77-V Pro works well with Xeon E3, although the cpu is not listed under compatibility list.

as long as it has a same socket with the same amount of pin with the same position of notch, it can be connected.

heck the 4 threaded Apps are not even fully optimized for the 4 cores, u mostly see the "common" Apps claim to support 4 thread are poorly optimized on the 3rd/4th core.

Core 2 quad is like 5yrs old already. I think we need another 5yrs to fully adopt/optimized the 6 cores.  yawn.gif I wonder who is the guy behind AMD to come up the idea to design bulldozer for "special" 8 core + expecting software developer to adopt it. *good luck with that.  cool2.gif  I think Intel high IPC are more feasible for now.  cool2.gif

What kind of app u are running. I am talking about software the number of taking 4 thread in general. Just because there is a couple of App using 4 thread doesnt mean >50% of them in the market is fully written in 4 thread.

take for example, Dragon age are only benefit 3 cores, PXSX2 are only recently get quad core support and it still heavily rely on dual core, Skyrim are also put heavy use on dual core when it first launch. There is a reason Intel Stays at quad core for Haswell.

industry software cannot be consider common software use for common user. biggrin.gif There are atleast 3-4 times more people use consumer software than industry user. Intel is targeting those guys laugh.gif

Yes, Intel uses cheapo thermal interface material aka TIM which has a horrible heat conductivity between die and integrated heatspreader aka IHS.

Die density or vast amount of components being packed in a smaller die size is another culprit. This has admitted by Intel themselves and it looks like there's no action taken by Intel uptil now sad.gif

i saw on the internet this product: http://www.coollaboratory.com/en/products/liquid-ultra/

Managed to shave off another ~10C by taking the hottest core & idle temp into consideration.  thumbup.gif  rclxms.gif
