This article is awesome:

All other processors cease to matter in the wake of Intel’s new high-performance CPU

When your only competition is yourself, what do you do when you have to introduce your latest and greatest CPU? Commit fratricide against your own chips? If you have the muscle and war chest of Intel, then yes.

At least, that’s what Intel’s new Sandy Bridge CPU family does to the company’s existing lineup of processors—lines them up on a cliff and pushes them off, one by one.

The stellar Core i7-870? Off you go. Core i7-975 Extreme Edition? Who needs your luxury-priced ass, anyway? Core i7-950? We’ll see you in hell!

In essence, Intel’s Sandy Bridge has rendered all previous quad-core and dual-core processors obsolete in both performance and price. Yes, the top chips in Intel’s Sandy Bridge family are that fast. And they’re pretty damn cheap, too. The fastest Sandy Bridge chip, for example, will outrun the $1,000 Core i7-975 Extreme Edition, yet it costs just three bills.

----

The top-end Core i7-2600K smashes every other quad-core Intel chip by healthy margins. This is aided by the new microarchitecture, the ring bus, and other magical stuff, we suppose, but we see no reason to buy any other CPU for the money. Even the once-powerful Core i7-975 Extreme Edition is flatly punched in the nose by the 2600K. While the 975 is long gone, you can extrapolate that the 2600K will outgun the Core i7-950, i7-930, and the poorly priced i7-960. Against non-Intel chips, it’s no contest. AMD’s hexa-core Phenom II X6 1090T, which was already getting beaten up by existing Hyper-Threaded Core i7 chips, also takes a serious thrashing from the Core i7-2600K.

Ivy Bridge 22nm comes in 1H 2012

Maho Bay chipset, Panther Point PCH
According to the most recent roadmap Intel shows to its customers, it looks like the upcoming Ivy Bridge 22nm architecture is scheduled for 1H 2012. The production, if Intel's CEO is a reliable source, should start in Q4 this year, 2011, while availability should be expected in 2012. This is what Paul Otellini said back at IDF 2010.

You can expect to see Ivy Bridge roughly a year after Sandy Bridge January 5th launch. The desktop platform around this new CPU is called Maho Bay and the chipset that will power it is Panther Point PCH. Naturally there will be a mobile version as well.

The graphics is still a part of CPU and it is a DMI chipset and has FDI support. Last time we checked FDI standard for Flexible Display Interface, something that enables you two or more display outs.

Intel promises much better energy efficiency and this is natural as we are talking about 22nm transistors and a lot of optimisation.

==============================

Ivy Bridge 22nm sticks with socket 1155

DirectX 11 and three display support
The Ivy Bridge 22nm story gets even better. The new chip is socket LGA 1155 and it is socket compatible with the existing Sandy Bridge processors and Sugar Bay 2011 platform. Unfortunately we are quite sure that Cougar point PCH chipset of Sandy Bridge won’t support the new 22nm Ivy Bridge.

We are afraid that you will still need a new board. Even the Panther point PCH chipset is pin compatible with Cougar Point chipset of Sandy Bridge, but again this might help board manufactures to make boards faster, but end users will need to buy a new board.

The new platform officially supports USB 3.0 and its graphics can deal with DirectX 11. One additional news is that Maho Bay platform graphics now supports three independent displays, something that might come handy to a few, i.e. users in the financial business. Let's not forget the enhanced media performance as well as much better performance in both graphics and CPU area.

Sounds good, and the new platform comes roughly in a year's time, Q1 2012, most likely January 2012 if Intel doesn't hit any delays.

QUOTE(Mr.Lonely @ Feb 23 2011, 02:50 PM)
ok here some experience log from me

i hav a 2600k, p8p67 deluxe setup
and a RAID 0 2 x samsung spinpoint F3 1tb x 2 on sata II port
1 DVDRW @ sata II port and 1 x 1TB Caviar Black on SATA II
all my SATA III port are empty.
after 1 and a haft month (i bought my pc since/before it launch)
with 24hours 5 days every week downloading @ 240kb/s i notice quite a serious degradation upon 1month the first day i test my raid setup the sequential read min is around 155mb/s but as compare to latest test i carried out yesterday 13mb/s (sudden spike 4 times during the test). and my pc noticeablely "stuck" a moment when opening folders(even after restart).

so what i do is switch my RAID 0 to Intel Sata 3 port and WDCB to marvel sata 3 port
and i can conclude tat is obviously is the chipset issue not my drive degraded coz i obtain back a min of 160+- MB/s after i switch to sata 3 port,
so intel so-called 3 years time frame is highly doubted. tongue.gif

just sharing my experience. pls dun flame me ^^.

p.s
i going to refund my board on early of March hopefully Z68 chipset is launched.
*
Ehh u r supposed to get about 13Mbps even u switch to SATA3 ports if the HDD is degraded. nod.gif
Now switch back to SATA2 and feedback.
