Like that 60 mil gone in no time.

QUOTE(skeleton202 @ Apr 20 2010, 12:12 PM)
better go for winger... never see best winger since .....
*
Nowdays, most team don't play winger type of system.
If Liv doesn't have striker good in the air or attack the crosses come in, the winger system is ineffective. Somemore, Rafa likes to play 1 striket upfront only, so I don't think winger system is suitable.

I would say build up the team morale first is the priority, you must have a dressing room or players that are full of confidence, willing to fight and determine.

You spent 100 million also no use if the team cannot gel and players don't have confidence in what they are doing.

And most importantly, don't buy injury prone players.
Or don't buy current injured player.

And one thing is that let the player plays and has their own creativity, in football, although discipline in playing is very important, sometimes, manager needs to let player express themselves has some freedom to perform in the pitch, unless they are making huge mistake which need to be corrected right away.
If not, just let players play accordingly what had been told before the match started.

I don't like manager or coach to give instruction during the match, whenever I play (not in football), unless some urgent issue need to be corrected (or change of tactic )which could be vital for the match outcome.
It affected my game if constantly being told what to do this do that.

QUOTE(Poyo fc @ Apr 20 2010, 09:31 PM)
I believe Liverpool need a striker that can be Torres partner...no need to buy the mega bucks player....maybe someone like...Darren Bent/Benjani/K. Jones.. Just so that he is not the only focal point for Liverpool attacking..Of course if we can afford David Villa..it would be fantastic...but logically should not buy mega bucks player...

Midfield...already invested in Aquilani..need to give him a go...Lucas...well he is Lucas...not much more to say... Mascherano is a must for the DM part...wingers...i still believe we need a natural player who like to cross the ball into the box... But we already have Bennayoun, Babel, Riera and Kuyt...

I think Kuyt is not a natural crosser of the ball..work ethics- fantastic...he should play as a striker as that is what we bought him for
*
Since Rafa likes to play 1 striker. Then there is no place for starting eleven for the so called partner striker when Torres is fit time. Unless the player willing to sit on the bench, there is little chance established striker want to come.
Crouch left mainly because of lacking starting chance.

Frankly speaking Liv only have 3 recognised striker, Torres, Ngog, Kyut.

Need to see what the manager liking of system and tactic, before the personnel can fit into it. Rafa very rare play 2 strikers on top.

You want winger to cross the ball, then you must someone that can attack the ball or head the ball into the net. With 1 striker upfront, it means you have 1 target most of the time.

Injured and his contract ends this summer. No talks of renewal yet. Most likely losing him on free. sad.gif

My opinon,
The way Liv managing players contract need to be reviewed. It is not the first time, Liv cannot generate good transfer fee due to contract near expire issue, previously Owen also similar case.

If the player don't want to renew the contract when contract approaching near like 2 years or less, then some key decision need to be done.

Keep on spending money to buy player, but always lose player with cheap and free transfer will affect the club financially, especially Liv doesn't have big budget nor financially very strong to compete with others.

The main problem of this season Liv facing is inability to score goal, especially in away matches.

Can look at the statistic, straight away can pinpoint out the weakness. Only manage to win 4 games for the entire 17 away matches, and only score 14 goals only out of 17 matches which is the lowest in the top half table teams. Even Birmingham 18, Everton 25 goals, is miles better than.

For home games, Liv just win 13 matches out of 18, which just shy 1 win as compared to MU, and Arsenal, and better than Spurs.

I would say, it could be down to too negativity mindset, tactics issue as well.
1 striker + 2 DM, is not threating enough opponent goals.

2DM (Mascherano + Lucas) + 1 striker is not going to work in away games.

Repeated repeated posted........

Tired on criticising on this issue.

Win 4 away matches for the entire season since start of season already speak out.

After trailing, and Liv needs to search for an away goal, still no place for Aqualani.

Fulham looks got better chance of winning Europa cup.

Well, so are we. Can't complain much about the scoreline, their keeper can walk to the cafe and have a cup of coffee during the game and still not concede. Not a single save to make.
*
Their keeper can slwoly enjoy the coffee for the entire match, because shot on target is zero from Liv. laugh.gif doh.gif

QUOTE(sahathai @ Apr 23 2010, 12:02 PM)
i'm sure plenty of us have told me that N'gog is just a backup striker and has scored plenty of goals already.. but even after watching all his goals again, i still think he's not good enaf to be our backup striker let alone to play in Torres role... better play with barros, sinama, cisse, bellamy or voronin.
*
Ngog scored 7-8 goals this season from a couple of start and lot of substitute. I would say, about average.

You can't expect him to do "Torres" to create something out of nothing, or score goal out of nowhere. As Rafa always play lone strike upfront, and most match especially away match with 2 DM + lone striker, so upfront can have little support.

When upfron has little support and creative passes from midfielder, no striker can flourish, except some brilliant and magic moment through some special player like Torres.

I don't think it is fair to criticise the striker (like Ngog in last night match), when midfielders can't string a few passes around, not to mention threatening opponent with some forwards, creative passes.

His shooting skill and accuracy might need more improvement, if want to be estalished striker. But a lot of occassion, especially seeing those misses by him, just highlight at least he knows how to get into the position to score.

Again if the team plays poorly, everyone should be blamed including managers, it is not right to find spacegoat from one or two. Playing lone striker and with little support and able to perform well is not something a lot striker can do one. Even Torres sometimes looks poor, and always being kicked around.

It could be tactic fault, manager fault as well.

buy for $1million, train for 2-3 years...then sold it for $3million. earn extra $2million to fund his next round of players

I don't think this is the situation right now, and franly speaking only a few players are sold at a gain.
Majority are either free-transfer, or being sold a cut price.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Give Chelsea the title, not MANU the pain of seing them getting their 19th is too much to bear for years after. It can be another team title so long as the BPL trophy does not end at Old Trafford.
*
If Liverpool cannot win 19th title, it is matter of time aka soon or later someone will get the 19th surpass Liv's record.

See where MU, start from, around 10 then reach 18th.
Give to Chelsea, then soon or later Chelsea will get 19th as well.

League title currently is either between Chelsea and MU, and occassionally Arsenal. There is no others team can mount serious challenge on the league title for the last 2 decade until now.
So it is matter of time someone will get 19th.
Liv needs to win the title to maintain the record. If not, then hoping whom to win or not the title, is meaningless.
No offence. smile.gif

If Ngog and Kyut don't recover from their injury in time, Liv has no recognised striker upfront for the coming A.Madrid match and Chelsea.

people always said manager's success were measured by the cups he won. i cant totally agree with that because there were much more aspect to judge the successfulness of a manager.
*
Yes and No.

But but, this whole season along, Liv performance is not that good along. If based on away match peformance, then it is a bottom half team record.
I and most supporters have no problem with Liv can't win a single competition or even can't get 4th place. But what we want to see is the team performance which should be much much better what currently show.

The Europa cup was loss at the first leg when Liv can't score an away goal.

Btw, Fulham played with more spirit and determination which is seriously lacking for Liv.

I would agree to a certain degree about what Duke has expressed, that if I have interpret his writings correctly, Rafa himself is a suspect when it came to tactics in crucial matches and crucial times.

Some of the signings, Aquilani, Johnson, have been poor in their form, but then again when we look at the backbone of the team, there's a string of poor performances.

Tiredness, fatique, morale loss, etc.

Still, I think its only inappropiate that we want to sack our manager halfway.

If he's to leave, let him leave at the end of the season. Not somewhere in the middle, not somewhere near the beginning or near the end.

I may not be able to concretely substantiate my points, but at the very least we do things a bit of honour and patience, where this times both are lacking in many other clubs.
*
Actually, now it is the time to decide, as there is little to play for in the next final 2 games.

So it is best interest for the club to plan for the next season. Be it want new manager, new players or not, now it is the time.

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 30 2010, 04:35 PM)
Is Rafa the perfect tactician? Well I suppose he has got the better of big teams like Man Utd and Real Madrid in recent times but if you take the whole course of the season into account, we've often looked clueless against average competition. Instead of questioning our tactics, some posters choose to defend the manager by citing a lack of funds or quality players. Sometimes, more often than not, it is our tactics that cost us the game. Sometimes, it is really obvious as well. Anyone agree with the substitution of Torres against Birmingham when we were chasing the game? I know Stevie didn't. Anyone agree playing Martin Skrtel at rightback? How about playing Aurelio in defensive mid against Fiorentina where we got overrun? People have often defended Rafa by saying that he's a master tactician especially in Europe. Well forget that our priority should be the Premiership. This season against Lyon and Fiorentina, we only mustered 1 point in 4 games.

In summary I do not agree with all his decisions but then again no one knows more than Rafa eh?
*
For some big games, and cup games, yes, tactic could influence the outcome.

But for average and lower league team, you just need to play with your own strength, attack attack, get 2 goals shut the door. You don't care much about how opponent team will play.
You don't need master tactician for this kind of game.
Sometimes, I feel disappointed when facing those kind of team still need to concern opponenet team before setting up the starting 11.
Opponent should fear you, not the other way round.

For long time, it is the result against those mid to lower team that cost Liv dearly.

Agree on the parts by Madmoz. During the first season Rafa didnt talk much. I would really like to have the old Rafa. (The reason maybe because he cant speak very well English  hmm.gif )
*
Sometimes, I really want to hear is that, "we don't play well, opponent deserve to win", the end.
Don't need to find any excuse for it.

Instead for the like current interview always like "we make mistake", "we will work hard", but still display poor performance throughout, matches after matches.
Even without making mistake, you still cannot win a game, the best no mistake made is 0-0 result only.

With the report and tone of the word, it seems Rafa will leave after Chelsea game.

But it is a strange comment, that he stayed because of fan last year.
Don't quite understand.
Did he under pressure to depart last year?

Yeap, 60 millions are good money.
What about 80millions? 100millions for Torres?
I'm not surprised to see clubs like RM, ManCity, Chelsea to splash 100m on player like Torres.

With 100m on the table, I bet the Yanks will drop their balls (I mean eye balls).
*
They want to sell the whole club at 300 millions plus. A single player already can sell 100 million, surely tempting.

Gerrard is having a poor season, no doubt, so does the whole Liv team. The only player that still on top form is Reina.

But to criticise Gerrard alone seems too harsh over the season, even last night goal (the backpass), if looking at replay, Gerrard view is actually somehow partially blocked by another Liv players, while Drogba is very close to Carra or a little behind Carra (before the pass being made to Reina), which view again partially blocked.

Yes, current Gerrard is not the previous year Gerrard, since after the incident last year, Gerrard form has been affected somehow. (My view), but this season, Liv as a team has been poor, and with the manager position in doubt so does owner issue, this will affect more on players' morale issue.

I suspected so as well, remember the body language after Torres being subbed when Liv is chasing the game on Birmingham match when the scoreline is 1-1 time (if not mistaken).

Players and manager must have good communication and understanding.

If the players don't understand what the manager trying to do with the tactic, intention etc (even whom being subbed and what position), then players morale can get affected.
Just like if you are playing well, and still full of energetic, suddenly manager subbed you and drop you next game, surely you will feel dejected.
At least player must understand why, it is due to tactic wise? save for next game? etc.

This kind of message, sometimes don't need to be spoken out, but manager can send the message in various way.
Just like you are chasing the game, you take out a DM and put a AM, players don't need to be told also roughly know what the manager trying to deliver the intention/message.

and if rafa would have dropped gerrard and lost, the media would have questioned his decision, i bet some of us here would have criticised him too. so its not all good when a manager make a brave decision and take risks.  smile.gif

*
A manager must dare to make a brave move when thing is not going right.

Manager doesn't work for media, media can say whatever they like as long as the manager is working into the right direction, deliver good football and good result, then manager is delivering his job already.
Scare of criticism, scare of media won't bring the club forwards especially managing some big clubs and traditional rich club like Liv.

Little people expect Liv to lift the trophy next year or near future, no matter who is the manager, and how much the transfer fee available. But at least the team must deliver better football like currently show which players' morale looks low, dejected, no confidence.

Now even Benny also unsure of his future despite has signed contract extension.

You don't bring the best out of players with above situation mentioned.
