Rafa has gone....Gerard?....I dont even dare to print No 8,Gerard on my new home jersey.....sad.....

What about people who still have "Fowler" on their kits? Gerrard, like Fowler has already attained legendary status and it doesn't matter where he goes, his heart will always be with LFC. It isn't about what kit you have on, it's about where your heart lies and my belief is that Stevie will never stop being a Red.

huh? what did you guys mean when you said he didn't show enough to be in the starting 11?

In many big matches, he has proved he can handle the pressure and perform just as well. Goals against Arsenal and Chelsea last season when we were in top form proved crucial but those 2 matches somehow put us out of CL and 4-4 draw with Chelsea.

He has shown creativity with cutting in and supplying killer balls.

I agree. I think Benayoun was one of our best performers last season. He is our only match winner bar Torres and Gerrard.

Mixed feelings about his appointment. Would have loved to see what King Kenny could have done, with Ian Rush as his right hand man. Hodgson it is however. Wouldn't mind seeing Dempsey and Hangeland in red kits.

judging by the amount of youth team players coming thru. Benitez only needed another season or two to start filling the gaps in teh first 11 with them. he sees the bigger picture.. unfortunately those yanks dont..  i will support RH but lets just see what happens come the opening game.

Hmmm I don't know about that. There have always been promising youth players looking to break through. They existed before Pacheco, Nemeth and co. Paul Anderson, Richie Patridge, San Jose, Antwi, etc.

Unfortunately, you are judged based on your past credentials? Same when you go for an interview, no? You certainly can't judge a person based on future occurences. It's perfectly understandable that there are fans who are at least a little concerned over his appointment given his lack of achievement. If you've been reading my posts, you'll note that I like to look at facts. I don't subscribe to the "lets hope for the best" school of thought. Based on Roy's credentials, there isn't a thing to suggest that our predicament will improve. If anything, it may stay the way it is which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering we're on a slippery slope now. His 3 year contract suggests he isn't a long term replacement but rather, a person who can steady the ship. He hasn't had huge budgets to work with and certainly appears to be someone who can trim the fat by bringing in players who can keep us where we are, but don't demand exorbatant wages. Until our financial situation is sorted out, this is the best we can hope for.

Yeah I don't get how Mascherano is useless. Argentina crashed out of the World Cup because of bad team selections if you ask me.

I've always maintained that people always seem to appreciate attacking players more simply because it's easier to spot a good goal, incisive pass or a thousand stepovers that it is to note a timely interception, or good reading of a pass. More often than not, defensive players go unnoticed. Mascherano's presence in Liverpool's starting lineup enables both fullbacks to go forward. He mops up for them whenever they are caught out of possession. It isn't uncommon to see him scampering all the way from the right side of the pitch to the other flank, providing cover. You also seldom see a player play with so much passion. I've seen him run a full 70 yards from his own half just to chase the ball down. The game in which is absence was most evident was when we played Fiorentina away. Rafa stuck Aurelio in his position and we got torn apart down the flanks.

I cannot from any logical angle see how Mascherano is useless.

It's hard to take you seriously when you've done very little to demonstrate that you are capable of understanding the situation.

Has anyone read Carragher's autobiography yet? If you haven't, please go buy it. Well worth it. Here's one bit I thought was hilarious.

QUOTE
stormy conditions were atrocious. The plane was rerouted to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. I tried to remain calm to reassure my children James and Mia, but most of the women and children were screaming.

"try and keep quiet", I shouted. " The kids are getting terrified".

There was someone screeching in terror towards the back of the plane. I'd never heard howling like that before. Even my two year old daughter had never created such a noise.

"whose child  is that?" I asked Nnicola.

When I looked myself, I noticed it wasn't an infant. Head in his hands, ducked into safety position, was an inconsolable England and Manchester United superstar. It was Wayne Rooney.

how much is the book bro? saw Torres's one in bookstores as well,so far i only bought 'God' Fowler's one.

Mmm I can't remember. I know it's much cheaper than the Fowler hard cover copy I bought though. Still, I think it's worth what you'll have to pay. I mean you won't find a more committed red than Carragher and I've always liked reading auto biographies because you get to read stories the media never picked up on. Carra is also nearing the end of his career so there's lots to read. I don't normally invest in autobiographies of players who still have young careers.

duke...a little bird told me you pocketed quite a fair amount due to Spain's victory...how about a round of drinks for everyone here eh?
Wasn't much lah. The pool only involved the 7 of us. I lost about the same amount on earlier games vmad.gif
