FAO alien2003, I know we can discuss this at our respective threads but thought it'd be a neat idea to have general interaction among all sets of fans of the BPL. Current standings Spurs 64 City 62 Liverpool 56 (1 game in hand v West Ham) If Liverpool beat West Ham Spurs 64 City 62 Liverpool 59 Next weekend's fixtures Burnley v Liverpool City v Arsenal United v Spurs If Liverpool W, City D and United W, the table will look like this Spurs 64 City 63 Liverpool 62 Then it's Liverpool v Chelsea and City hosting Villa and Spurs hosting Bolton. Mind you, Spurs and City still have to play each other once. Depending on how things go, United could hand Liverpool 4th while Liverpool could hand United #19th. Of course it's from a United perspective. I think it's brilliantly poised and it's easily one of the most exciting finishes in recent years considering not only how close the title race is (could be down to the wire) but also how close the race for forth is. I'd rather have a tight forth place race than a relegation dogfight.

This reminds me of the final day relegation battle of 2004-2005. All 3 teams still had a chance. Just that now it involves the top 6!

Chelsea 35 77 Manchester United 35 76 Arsenal 34 71 Tottenham Hotspur 34 64 Manchester City 34 62 Liverpool 34 56 Aston Villa 33 55 Everton 35 54

with this new piece of vital information , will liverpool field kids when chelsea come to anfield as to not win againts chelsea and handing over manunited 19th ? i dont think they can do that if they wanted to , manunited can complain to the FA if liverpool do that on purpose. right ? man city and spurs is the only team fighting for the final spot now or liv still hv a mathematical chance? for what its worth , manunited will roll over spurs next week, regardless of spurs form. thats a certainty, team of alex ferguson stature will do that to other team. i said it in chelsea thread , i will say it again here, manunited will win their remaining match 100% .
cheers.
p.s: this season is scary, for first place and also for fourth. so good thread here.

To be fair, Man Utd could do the same also give what happens last week when we were 4 points off the top. We could have roll over and let Spurs and City win to deny Liverpool the 4th Place. However, Utd & SAF are above all that and we won yesterday. Lets hope Liverpool & Rafa will do the same and maintain the integrity of this league.

New owner promised jobs, Gerrard & Torres staying. He has no issue with the offer. Plus Liv could probably be in the Europa Final and that's a silverware for this season..with all lucks..

It has been a weird season. Injuries disrupted everyone's form. And every team have dropped points left right and centre throughout the season. On another season any one of those teams could have ran away with the title by now.

I wouldn't begrudge Liverpool if they did so (bend over sideways) but if they had a chance of getting forth and still did it....
Tottenham Hotspur 34 64 Manchester City 34 62 Liverpool 34 56 Aston Villa 33 55 Everton 35 54
Assuming Pool bit West Ham, 35 59
By the end of the week it could very well be Played 36 Points 62. They would still have played one game more than Spurs and City but assuming results go favorably at City v Spurs (draw?), Liverpool could still get forth. An outside chance I know but to bend over to deny yourselves a chance.
And I'm sorry, I'd rather exit R16 of CL than play in the final of Europa League.

Pool without Torres and Hammers fighting for relegation. I wouldn't put too much expectations on your assumption kobe. I will rather have this discussion once this week's matches are over.

brace yourself for the best ever finale of the season.the tightest that even hotter than the F1.anybody can drop points.can spurs beat man utd at their homeground?i would say it's 50-50.can arsenal beat man city?again,it's 50-50.chelsea might bounce back next week against stoke.last night, they rely too much on drogba and they've failed.
if tottenham play like last night, they will win against man utd. if man city play like last night, they will lose against arsenal.
i conclude my points with this statement:we can only see it on the matchday itself.

wait till the result of spurs vs mu and burnley vs liverpool if spurs wins + liverpool drop point which resulting liverpool will let chelse have their 3 points
base on liv's current it could be hard task for them to take full 3 points

Like many other Liverpool fans, I do despise Man Utd but this is real life we're talking about and the prospect of not qualifying for Europe all-together is very real. It is actually pretty ludicrous to suggest that the management would forgoe the financial gains of qualifying for Europe just to deny you a title. The thought of them mancs getting their hands on no.19 will hurt but I'm not in it for the short run. The long term future of the club is more important and I don't care if it takes another 5 years of rebuilding. What matters most is that at some point in the future, we will return to the top. It's all a matter of when? Like you say, Spurs are fighting for fourth and it may not be as easy as you think. Then again anything can happen. Still have vivid images of Roy Carrol clawing the ball out from inside his own goal a couple of seasons ago. Memories of Spurs blowing a 3-0 half time lead come to mind as well. That being said, Spurs are arguably a better team now and have already beaten Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks. They still have to play Man Utd and Liverpool but writing them off against the mancs would be foolish in my opinion. Added on April 19, 2010, 8:40 amWhat's all this talk about Liverpool anyway? We're fighting for 6th, not 4th. Not relevant to the thread title This post has been edited by Duke Red: Apr 19 2010, 08:40 AM

If the situation were reversed, would you throw the towel in against Chelsea?

My heart says anyone but Man Utd. However, Liverpool fan or not, it would be stupid to suggest throwing the game against Chelsea when we still have Europe to fight for. People can belittle the Europa league all they want, after all it is a second tier competition but qualifying for it means more profit. One can make fun of the Carling Cup or Europa league but see if they celebrate when their team wins either of those trophies. More often than not, you'll find a group of hypocrites right there. We were made fun of when we won the "Mickey Mouse" treble under Houllier (we did win a total of 5 trophies in that season), but think back to see if winners of any of those competitions in subsequent years celebrated?

Yes, there are such fans, and when I heard it, i just sigh...
