I was wondering. since i cant get any information off the internet about this model.

I am planning to change the stock rams to either corsair or hyperx rams.

I know that this laptop is so far said to only be able to hold on max 4gigs of ram, which im very dissapointed.

Can anyone suggest, or maybe specifically recomend me the model of ram which i can change to.

BTW, i want ddr3 rams, high performance if available, and of course has to be available in malaysia.

Ive tried certain webs about ram checkin but it seems that this laptop is too new for them.... so no databases

Compaq has bad support on performance ram. Value ram with normal latency is fine though.
So, NO to you for performance ram like HyperX

maybe cause of instability of the system .

value ram is more than enough , you are not going to tweak your ram setting also in the laptop.

The system will NOT boot with the performance ram.
This is because Compaq has already fix the normal latency. The notebook will not detect any low latency ram modules.
I have tested before.
Note: When we talk about performance ram, we talk about low latency ram.

to get the fact straight, since the days of 965M chipset (aka Centrino Santa Rosa), the memory controller already support up to 8GB (2x 4GB)

only problem that's preventing one from doing so is that 4GB SO-DIMM are so bloody expensive even for the almost out-dated DDR2... costing at least 4 times more than 2GB SO-DIMM...

yeap i bought cq42-177tx during kl pc fair.
used for fw weeks and still no problem yet. but i haf noticed the cooling isnt so good (theres alot of 'hot wind' at the vents). a cheapo coolin fan shld do the trick.
and mind u, tho it says it has 4gb of ram, the system only recognises 3gb since its a 32bit win7.
apart from those, the rest is pretty much good.
i think it is quite a reliable brand. used a compaq x1000 few years back and still using it now for 'rough' usage.

edit: and btw, saw a hp shop in 1u, selling 177tx at RM3299 tongue.gif
get ur purchase shop rite!

i believe you could, but then again, nothin wrong with 32bit win7. u just lose 1gb of ram lol.
anyway, i think its pretty much stupid to get a 32bit win7 in this system.

and i wonder its me or anything, i kept losing my hdd space everyday! i tried all sorts of stuff to rectify. got nothing tho. update windows for 600kb, lost over 300mb of space.... any1 getting this?

Looks like it...well, try clean-up your HDD, use CCleaner or maybe just do a clean-up from HDD properties tongue.gif

Added on May 4, 2010, 8:45 pmAnyway, what AV (antivirus) are you using because Kaspersky tend to store their log file without deleting it (well, just for info tongue.gif)

been doing disk clean-up everyday since day 1, but it doesnt work. i mean, i updated 600kb win update, but when i shutdown, i lost over 300mb. in actual fact, im lost like 4gb in the span of 3 wks... =(

im using norton and MS security essentials. gonna delete off norton once my free trials expire.. u guys think it relates to my weird hdd space losing phenomenon?

maybe i'll try reducing my restore points...

thanks for the help =)

------

i think it really is related to system restore. my current setting is 10gb reserved for restore and im already using 9.08gb... =/

Just got myself a CQ42-177TX for 2699. They said 3yrs warranty terms/conditions apply. Can someone explains what are the terms and conditions and any different from the 1 year?

And what different is the 32 bits and 64 bits OS things? not too familiar. vendor had not deliverd the good. can i ask for a 64 bits OS if it is better?

1 year international (plus local) warranty and 2 yrs local warranty.

32 bit - max ram recognised is 3.5g. Varies according to system setup. 177tx shld recognise 3gb (2.99gb to be bloody exact tongue.gif)
64 bit - recognises infinite amt of ram lol (128gb if my brain doesnt fail me)

depending on what u wanna do, 32bit is adequate for most of the daily uses. 64bit if u r a ram freak and wanted more out of ur system.

u can upgrade it anytime to 64bit using win7 upgrade anytime.

just a wee bit out of topic, u actually lost 1gb of physical ram in 177tx. however that reserved 1gb is used for addressing other issues which u wont get to see and touch.

There should be apps on the start menu to burn the recovery, something like HP PC Recovery CD Creator....

and btw, ati definitely doesnt use any less power judging by the fact it is a dedicated gpu.
yes it needs 3 dvds. ur laptop is about 11-12gb used for win7. thus the amount.
copies everything in ur windows in factory settings.
part of hp cost savin is removing the option of providing oems softwares. and thus 'slightly' cheaper price, as so they claimed, which i dun exactly see it.

ATi would definitely use more power.
Intel still the winner when it comes in less power consumption, as well with less power.

Yup, usually around 3-4 DVD. Now almost all brand don't give DVD already, except Dell (starting no DVD as well), Asus.

By the way, do you guys notice that the vent at the left hand side does get rather warm if you load the laptop? Like, you run a few programs at one go (such as photoshop + browser + media player + MS Words + MS Excel + Powerpoint)? Mine gets pretty warm.....

Bought the CQ42 189 TX in May. Report of Physical appearance:
-the paint on the plastic shell doesnt look long lasting as it's spray painted and not gloss laminated.
- the finishing on edge at the side and front are not good. u can feel the sharp and uneven plastic bits with ur fingers.
- LED screen is not so good compared to Acer or Dell's.
-Keyboard ok
-Sound sys ok. Dell the loudest.

Did you mean the CQ42-177TX? It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

I haven't tried many games with it, but so far, the performance is good. Build quality I'd say okok only. And the LED Screen isn't the best you can see but should be adequate enough for some movie watching.

Sound wise, good enough. Clear and crisp to me. Keyboard is very tactile. One of the cons is that it only has 3 USB ports, which is not enough! The trackpad looks good as its a seemless design but I'd say I'm kinda disappointed with the touchpad mouse buttons as compared to the IBMs and HP Mini I have, it's really hard to press at times.

But all in all, I'm quite impressed with the price tag of RM2699. Definitely worth the price, but there's a lot other better options out there now like the Inspiron 14R, Asus line and etc.

Last but not least, I do like the looks of it, kinda mimic MacBook Pro in a way. Hehe.

Complete dead.
Cannot even turn on.Either motherboard or power module problem.

I was told that the longest they will take to fix the laptop is 1 week.Lets see whether they keep their word.
Already my patient is thinning with my HP Mini delivery fiasco.

I got me a i5 CQ42 about 5 months back. Noticed that the cooling fan is rather loud and works overtime compared to other lappys. Is this normal?

Yesterday had the lappy auto shutdown due to overheating. Very worried.

Anyone face same problem?

Using Cq42 for almost a year, the battery is weak though.....

Or I shall say this laptop is very much power thirsty...even with low brightness, the laptop hardly last more than 2 hours. Sigh

So far my Compaq CQ42 is good, except I'm suspecting dust accumulation in it's internal fan. Correct me for wrong technical term/s, if any. I tried googling on how to clean it manually, but so far it is very confusing for me. Any help for this poor soul? sad.gif

Bought a 2nd hand laptop... Compaq CQ42 with i5, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD and preinstalled with (ori) win 7...

Previous owner restored the notebook before handing it to me..

I tried to recreate a Recovery DVD... just in case I need to clear the HDD... Can get back to original setting again..
But failed... coz the Recovery Media wizard said it already has been done (probably by previous owner...)
Only 1 copy of recovery media can be made..
Now cannot create a new one...

I tried searching the net... found some tutorial to reset the wizard count, but cannot file all those files mentioned....

Can I ask for replacement media from HP?
